Welcome to Jinjer. That is all Tatiana. They are a great band and excellent live. Tatiana is safe in the US but the rest of the band is in Kyiv organizing aid and getting ready to defend the city. If you are not use to harsh vocals, I suggest reacting to " Ispeak Astronomy" (OMV) or "Teacher, Teacher" (OMV)🌻💙💛
"Wallflower" has a lot of clean singing and is comparable to this song...
I would go to Perennial, my favorite
This song has a bunch of doubling. Just because there are effects does not subtract from the amazing talent. Doubling, or a stereo reverb, rounds out the sound that blends it in just a little bit more to the instruments. Rather than denying the effect lead them to Judgement (& Punishment) that has no effects and they can see for themselves how impressive Tatiana is.

Yep, that's all her. There was some post production. Tatiana Smailyuk is her name. She is mostly self taught .
This live session was done to showcase Vlad on drums who had joined the band not long before this.
The tour got cancelled because Vlad, Roman(guitar), and Eugene (bass) are all currently in Kiev and can't leave. Tati is in California.

With the beginning of the civil war, they had fled from Ukraine's Donets to the west. Tatjana is with her boyfriend in California, the rest of the band is in Kiev helping to care for the civilians. They sell a corresponding t-shirt in their shop.

I think djent is more like a internet guitar nerd thing than a real separate metal genre. Dragonforce's Herman Li was talking about djent in some of his videos. He was discussing with some other guitar wizard how the djent was a bit like meme thing or joke in some earlier guitar forums. Anyway, this song was definitely not djent, more like progressive metal with some weird jazz, fusion, etc. elements.
And yes, the term djent is in fact onomatopoeic. Saying the word sounds the same as what djent music sounds.

There is currently happening a bit of an explosion of Metal and Hardcore bands fronted by women who can scream and growl (this has been going on over the last 5-6 years or so)..... Jinjer, Spiritbox, Dying Wish, Vexed, Scowl, Employed To Serve, Venom Prison, Spoil Engine, Entheos, Monochromatic Black, Red Handed Denial and Oathbreaker (to name some), but there are also a few older bands boasting women who can scream like Otep, Arch Enemy, Walls Of Jericho, Light This City, The Agonist, Rolo Tomassi, and Kittie. All bands worth checking out!

Tatiana has had the growl for a while. There are old videos of her band before Jinjer (the bands name is "The Prophecy") with a young Tati doing growls. I think she had a way harder time learning the cleaner stuff, as her singing voice has audibly matured since her early days in this band.
Tati moved to Kiev years back. to escape the local fighting that took place in the Donesk region.
I wouldn't suggest Home Back about their hometown getting caught in the 2014 war - it's up there among their heavier songs and the subject matteris heartbreaking especially now. That said, diggong into the lyrics really shows off how frowls can be used to incredibly powerful artistic effect. Maybe Perennial live at Wacken next to see what they can on stage with just a bit of editing in post. Who Is Gonna Be The One is another heavy one exploring all the things she can do with her growls and is an extremely raw recording with minimal editing, as always with Jinjer the lyrics are deep. About Camilla's comment around 7:55: if you listen to other songs by Jinjer, you'll notice that the duality is a constant theme. In Pisces, if you look at the symbol, you'll see how similar to yin-yang symbol it is, representing good and evil inside of us all. It appears in the videoclip for "Wallflowers" in the form of two wolves, like in the indian tale of the two wolves that live in us.
After watching a live video' I would suggest "Home Back" they wrote it about what it was like in Ukraine when Russia invaded years ago and they had leave their home town of Donetsk and relocate to Kiev. After that, "Teacher Teacher would be my next reaction.
I am 60+ years old, have listened to rock music since the 60s but was never interested in metal until I came across this video about 3 years ago. I had the opportunity to see them "live" this past December and they were beyond amazing.

She didn't just learn she could do this, using false vocal cords to scream like that isn't something you just realise you can do, it takes a lot of practise to do the technique properly. Do it properly and you can scream all night and be fine. Do it wrong and you will fuck your vocal cords in minutes. Most can't comprehend that women can do this which is stupid, why should men be the only ones who could learn the technique.
Yeah, Tatiana is by no means the first woman to do growl vocals, she just happens to be the gnarliest one I have ever heard to do it in the nearly 40 years I have been a fan of extreme music.
Tati found the band Otep and the female singer could scream and growl. She taught herself. There are other female singers that can do this she does it the best. And there was some post effects added, but the growl is all her. Just subbed. Great reaction!

Jinjer is a killer band.. period! I would suggest watching the 'Teacher Teacher' official video to see her range and also what a kick ass band they are!! They are from Ukraine and had to halt their tour due to the war.. but they are fund raising for relief efforts.. again.. an amazing band!!

Jinjer is an awesome band and a great introduction to harsh vocals. The musicianship is at a high level and the song writing is unique and interesting. I did giggle at the "Djent-jer" joke, good stuff.

That's freaking scary dude. Could you imagine her waking you up in the middle of the night with that voice ? If that's her real voice . That's scary ! Like the Exorcist. I wonder if her head spins around . Lol !
Tatiana doesn't use growl or screaming in a real life. She even doesn't use it for singing except training sessions, recordings or live performances. It's like a distorted guitar - for gigs but not for common life.
Once their bassist Eugene was asked about it. Does Tatiana scream at somebody in a real life and is it scary? He said - yes, Tatiana can scream at somebody sometimes. But she screams not like a demon, without any harsh vocal techniques. She screams like an angry woman and it could be realy scary.

You're a pro, so I'm going to talk to you like an adult. No disrespect to Tati AT ALL (she's incredible) but this is a blend of her high scream/growl and the same track pitch-shifted down a whole step. If you listen attentively during the outro you can even hear the two tracks start to separate at times due to latency. I'm trusting your trained earballs to spot it (example 5:45, and especially at 7:07). BTW this whole band are Ukrainian, keep them in your prayers.
There's actually a second vocal track during the choruses and the interlude (?) section, it's difficult to catch a lot of the time, but it's there. I'm guessing she did some extra layering after this.
Tatiana, what can you say about her that you can do better just by listening, for my money the greatest female singer of all time. If you want to just focus on her try "Judgement and Punishment" or for an awesome live performance try "Perennial" but any of Jinjer's songs are good. Once you can get past her you realize the rest of the band is pretty darn good too! anyway, good reaction, have a good one!
Her voices is from plenty of practice and reheasals.
Tatiana is an amazing vocalist and has spent many years developing both her clean and harsh vocals. This is not something you just discover. Her vocals in this are layered in some sections. For more female harsh vocals you need to check out Arch Enemy (Alissa and Angela) who just released some new videos (Handshake with Hell and Mirror Mirror) and Spiritbox with Courtney. If you want to hear Floor growling then you should checkout Yours is an Empty Hope live at Wembley or the song Disdain with her second band ReVamp (ruclips.net/video/iNSf64M9uA0/видео.html). One of my favorites and a really cool video is Alissa White Gluz from Arch Enemy guesting with Powerwolf on their song Demons are Girls Best Friend (ruclips.net/video/lDZ7p7WAG2o/видео.html) . A timely song from Jinjer is Home Back which is about them having to leave home back in 2014 when Russia invaded their home region in Eastern Ukraine.

Tatiana is a metal goddess for sure! By the way she would take you saying her voice sounds like a man as a compliment. She has spent years perfecting her growls, and has stated that she wasn't happy until she could growl like a man.
Also, Jinjer cannot be classified as any one type of metal. They have referred to their style as salad metal in the past, because they throw elements from many different genres into their music. You should check out Tatiana's One take performance of Judgement and Punishment next.
She sounds female to me. She’s so good because she’s serious. She doesn’t have the depth and clarity you could hear from her chest. but so good. Absolutely Impressive vocalist

Surprised no one has used a Floor reference. Hahahaha. Floor growls as well, but not too often. However, Tatyana is a great vocalist. Lot's of growling women from Europe. Lot's of good ones. Tatyana is one of the best.
You know Floor does them too. See “Yours is an Empty Hope”. It’s just another singing technique, you learn how to do, so it doesn’t hurt your voice!

It's all relative right... a box of pasta in Hawaii is $7. Fruit is damn near free. Average MPG in USA is 25mpg i think. We're not riding around cities on scooter bikes that get 60+mpg... all relative. Gas is higher than it was 1-2-3 yrs ago all I'm saying.

Some of it *is* black & white...like that Russia annexed Crimea & started arming & supporting militant separatists in eastern Ukraine because the former Russian puppet president of Ukraine fled the country after the 2014 uprising, & that Russia launched a full-scale invasion this year. The war is therefore 100% on Putin, who is unwilling to live with a fully independent Ukraine. F**** him.
