Great footage, thank you. I'm planning on ascending Mera Peak and would love to climb Island Peak but my fear of heights just says NO. I keep coming back to RUclips just to check and you've put me in my place again.
Yes Mera Peak is fairly gentle incline, although there might be one steep short section near the summit (changes each year). Island Peak and Lobuche East have steep 45/50 degree slopes. I also climbed Chulu Far East years ago which has no steep sections
Pozdrawiam was.🇵🇱🇵🇱🇵🇱.
Loving the video! Wanted to ask, how did guys avoid frostbite? I saw there were multiple instances some of the climbers fingers were exposed to the cold air/wind?
Frankly, these wannabe purists grind my gears. Even K2 has some parts with fixed lines. Climbing is about overcoming vertical challenges, not just pulling on holds. Using ascenders on a fixed rope involves the same essential skills that define climbing: movement through vertical terrain, risk management, problem solving, and physical exertion. The mental focus required to operate ascenders efficiently combined with the physical endurance to ascend long pitches, mirrors traditional climbing techniques in many ways. Fixed rope ascents also demand trust in your equipment and environment, a core aspect of climbing. Mountaineers, bigwall climbers, and rescue teams routinely use ascenders in critical scenarios to navigate difficult or dangerous sections of a climb. It’s a tool in a climber’s arsenal, not a shortcut. Just as bouldering and sport climbing are valid forms of climbing, ascending with fixed ropes is a discipline with its own unique challenges. It's a different style, but it’s still climbing-requiring strength, precision, and the desire to push upward against gravity.
@@MountainsOfTravel what preparation would you suggest to a novice? some companies want you to do these expensive training camps they offer? is that essential or would you be fine if you're strong and fit
@@tom_abbott strong and fit and no fear of heights / falling. You should also do a short 2-3 hour basic snow, glacier, crampons etc course- many companies offer this with the climb
@@tom_abbott No need to do an training camp for this one, you can learn the basic techniques in a couple of hours and that's enough. Best preparation for non technical climbs is loads of cardio, mental training and long uphill hikes with a 10kg backpack
Great footage, i will be there soon!
It is a beautiful short climb
How did it go?

I wore double boots and warm mitts.

It's not climbing , you have just to follow the ropes in place ...Would you be able to rich the summit without them ?
Not me, but my guide could

Could a novice do it?
Yes if you are fit, don’t get altitude sickness, and do not have a fear of heights / steep terrain
