28th of July 2021... This particular moment is just 3 days after The Killer Mountain claimed another climber. Mindblowing how K2 is so savage - on an average of every 4 climbers, 1 remains there forever (metaphorically). Mr. Gupta, you have my utmost respect for conquering this monster and making it look like a piece of cake, while holding that camera in one hand and providing awesome commentary. I hope to be capable of having your state of mind when I eventually make my attempts on these summits.
The death rate actually dropped to around 13% in recent years. In 2022 there were 190 successful summits and only 1.6% of climbers died in the attempt. It is becoming commercialized the same way Everest is. Sherpas and Pakistanis, who in the past did not, are now more willing to be paid to carry foreign climbers equipment and supplies, while leading the climb. My guess is, in the coming years. We will see thousands of people successfully climb K2 just like Everest, with much much lower death rate.
I've probably watched 100 K2 docs over the last 5 years. This one is by far the most informative and relaxed. You seem like a wonderful climbing partner! Cheers, my friend.
When you’ve done the immense work to have the climbing experience Jon has, the research, the good logistics, being ready for the weather windows, the respect for the locals, the terrain and the mountains- you get to enjoy and appreciate and succeed on the way to the top. And come back down again safely which is as important 👏👏👏👏👏
I kept searching for a POV video of what it's like to climb K2 and couldn't find for the longest time, but this is PERFECT! Thank you so much for making it available! Best of luck and waiting for your next ones! 👌
that was the best documentary about mounting climbing i have ever watched you really made us feel like we were on the mountain with you, and really gave us an idea of what climbing K2 is like , thank you, glad you got off the mountain safely
Hi there, House's Chimney and the route after that looked very challenging indeed. 80 degrees or more!! You need to control ur mind and not panic. That probably also happens, for first timers, if and the weather changes abruptly. And it does there, on those heights. Very calming, reassuring and convincing presentation as such.. You can hear from breaths how demanding it is. Even for a guy in that good shape. With this guy I can imagine ppl taken up by him feel safe. As safe as it ever can be. More and more accidents happen, every year though. K2 is the most challenging one of all top mountains. Keep it up your great work ✌️
They don't call it the Savage Mountain for no reason But this guy climbs it and at the same time records it for us making it even more dangerous Absolute legend! By far the best K2 video on the net thank you for bringing us along with you.
This is one of the greatest videos, I've ever seen about k2. You have showed me thing in depth that I've only read about. The weather window seemed awesome. I see how hard it is, with good weather, O2 and a team. Now I see how hard, it must have been for people, trying in winter, in small teams or without O2. You have done well, everest and k2. Well done. Looking forward to more videos on more mountains
It has been tried only once in history in Winters by the top professional high altitude climbers team led by legendary Nirmal Purja from of course Nepal. Another first winter attempt resulted in disaster and everyone died on the mountain , all 3 members of the expedition team. Only one body recovered so far. Nobody thinks of summiting K2 in winter, it's an extraordinary honor even in summers. 🤗
This deserves all of the accolades it has received thus far. Seeing you climb such a "savage" mountain with seemingly endless personal calmness and blue skies is such a breathtaking juxtaposition! Thank you for sharing your momentous achievement with the world. You have done your viewers a great service to be certain!
The most difficult peak in the world and that man just did it so smoothly so profesional ,imagine he was speaking to us at 7000-8000m till climbing. For sure best video of K2 i have ever seen.Thank you
I just finished your videos of Everest and Makalu. This video is the best of all no question about it. Previous videos of K2 never show how technical and dangerous the climbing really is. The views are so good one would think there is a green screen behind you and everything is filmed in a studio. I am in awe of your climbing ability and most of all your positive spirit. I hope all aspiring high altitude climbers watch your videos and soak in the great views and hard work. Congratulations on your climbing successes. I wish you further success in climbing but most of all success in life. Cheers!
Congratulations to you and the team. It takes a special kind of person to do this. I know next to nothing about climbing but I can appreciate the mental and physical strength, as well as the hard work and planning, leading up to and throughout this. You should be very proud of yourself mate 👏🏻
@@justjohn7529 Although this video is amazingly filmed and the best footage on this platform for the climb but it's not climbing K2 on it's level, all I see is jugging up on fixed lines I assume the guides fixed (may be completely wrong and Jon lead some sections, i'm only going by what I see in this video) The fact you see how tiring, steep and technical it is just jumaring and using supp O2 makes it even crazier that there's a few people that have done it solo, unassisted and without supp O2 "I lead treks and expeditions everywhere in the world and share the mountain experience with groups and climbers with maybe less background. I love that, but still I consider climbing the 8000ers alone as my time-off. It gives me time to look back at my life, live in the moment and plan the upcoming.” - Samuli Mansikka

I've searched and scoured the net for the best 8000er summit footage (K2 in particular), and this is the best footage and commentary by far. What a blessing to be able to see this.

Congrats to all the Sherpas and porters who made this video possible! Carrying all the equipment to base camp, fixing all the ropes, setting up 4 camps with hot tea and cookies on the mountain, hauling dozens of oxygen bottles up to the higher camps, and finally cleaning up and bring most of the stuff back down again. Sherpas and porters, this is the best Ketu video you have done yet! Thanks a lot. BTW, there was a British guy who held the camera but I don't remember what his name was.
This is exactly the view of the entire walk/climb I have been wanting to see.....I hope you have even more footage you can upload. Just gorgeous! And congratulations!!!
I guess you had been extremely lucky about the conditions you had on the mountain. No heavy storms, no groundless deep snow, no icy rocks. Congrats, well done.
I dont say this comment to diminish your amazing accomplishment of summiting this mountain....but from my warm view at home on RUclips....just the hike to basecamp at Everest seems harder than k2....
You made the K2 summit look easy. Of course this just means you are a man of enormous talent, who made excellent preparation and planning as well. I know nothing about mountain climbing but even I know K2 is called “the savage mountain” and kills 20% who dare climb it. Well done.
My congrats to the summit! And my congrats to one of the best videos here about climbing and K2. No silly music, no sensations, very interesting comments throughout and a wonderful camera, so I am part of your adventure at home. It’s videos like this showing people the beauty of mountains and the joy of success.
All of your climbs look so effortless 👍🏼 and all this positivity during the climb is just awesome. Especially with the K2 it sounds like you happen to visit your granny rather than climb the deadliest mountain on the planet 😅 excellent content. Cool attitude. What a level of professionalism. Adds mountaineering a whole other level of humanity and humbleness. At least in my inspiration when I see your work. Thanks for sharing your invaluable experience.

It must be such an awesome feeling to summit the holy grail of mountaineering! K2 is the mountain of mountains and has the combination of truly magnificent beauty, high probability of treacherous weather conditions, terrifying and technically difficult slopes! I don’t believe I have ever seen better weather conditions on this scary mountain, but you still had to climb to the top with all the dangers and risks. Congratulations on making it to the top and safely down! 👏👏👏👏👏👏 I have say this is possibly the best video of K2 climbing I have seen, especially the exquisite photography and visuals of such a magical place on our planet.
This is by far the best video ive seen of K2. Not only exceptional quality, but fact that you were able to capture the entirety of the ascent while simultaneously providing commentary on the climb is truly remarkable. Despite the daunting nature of the climb, you managed to convey a sense of relative ease, making it appear less formidable than it truly is. The breathtaking views that you encountered throughout the journey, culminating in the stunning sunrise during the final push, were simply awe-inspiring. Congratulations
What a wonderful video! I just watched a video about the crazy, tragic events of 2008 on K2, but the people in this video make it look easy (which I know it's not). I guess that's the difference when the task is approached by a well trained and coordinated team. Unless we can get helicopters to land on the summit of K2, I'll never set foot there, so watching this was a great privilege.
❤️ Epic! You did an awesome job filming this from base to the summit. The clarity was amazing! I just cannot get over how deep dark blue the sky is. Not light blue but deep deep dark blue. I could just kiss your whole face for sharing. You rock!!

@@MattRamsey-p7v Obviously they got incredibly lucky with the weather, but still a very impressive climb. I certainly couldn't do it.
Brother I have seen many videos , documentaries , insta reels videos from eliasaikaly to Sandro G.H but this is the best video and vlog of K2 From Base camp to summit brother huge efforts and thanx for making us to do the summit from our beds
You’re welcome Aditya! Thanks 🙏
Simply WOOOOOWWW! AMAZING AND BRAVOOOO .
THANKS FOR YOUR PROFESSIONAL VIDEO.

👋Hi Everyone! THANK YOU so much for supporting my channel, I really appreciate it! 🙏

This stat makes it seem more dangerous than it is. It doesn’t include all the people who attempted but did not summit.
You talking about Rick Allen? He must have been caught in the wind Jon mentioned at the beginning of the vid when he was looking at the summit.
There’s like ten on RUclips so where are the others? Lol
@@colinandrew89 a lot of them have been taken down 😭. 100 was definitely an exaggeration, but there were way more docs on here before
When you’ve done the immense work to have the climbing experience Jon has, the research, the good logistics, being ready for the weather windows, the respect for the locals, the terrain and the mountains- you get to enjoy and appreciate and succeed on the way to the top. And come back down again safely which is as important 👏👏👏👏👏
Wow, thank you! Thats very kind of you.
Can someone please get this guy a Go-Pro so he doesn't have to hold a selfie stick while CLIMBING K2 WITH ONE HAND?
😂😂😂
That sunrise view is just spectacular.
I kept searching for a POV video of what it's like to climb K2 and couldn't find for the longest time, but this is PERFECT! Thank you so much for making it available! Best of luck and waiting for your next ones! 👌
By far the most impressive video of a k2 climb i've seen on youtube. Thanks for sharing and massive congrats on the climb! well done :))
Thanks very much, I’m glad you enjoyed watching the video 👍
that was the best documentary about mounting climbing i have ever watched you really made us feel like we were on the mountain with you, and really gave us an idea of what climbing K2 is like , thank you, glad you got off the mountain safely
Thanks Christopher, appreciate your kind comment. I’m glad you enjoyed watching the video! 🙏
Cheers Ryan, glad you enjoyed watching the video 👌
This is one of the greatest videos, I've ever seen about k2. You have showed me thing in depth that I've only read about. The weather window seemed awesome. I see how hard it is, with good weather, O2 and a team. Now I see how hard, it must have been for people, trying in winter, in small teams or without O2. You have done well, everest and k2. Well done. Looking forward to more videos on more mountains
I once climbed K2 in 4 hours with no oxygen and a butt hanging off my lip the whole time 😂 JK obviously, but I agree this video is 💯 💪😎
It has been tried only once in history in Winters by the top professional high altitude climbers team led by legendary Nirmal Purja from of course Nepal.
Thank you for the lovely comment, it’s much appreciated 🙏
The most difficult peak in the world and that man just did it so smoothly so profesional ,imagine he was speaking to us at 7000-8000m till climbing. For sure best video of K2 i have ever seen.Thank you
Thanks very much, I’m glad you liked the video 👌
You just make this look so easy.
Thanks Joseph! Yes, these things don’t happen over night and require huge amount of planning and preparation 👍
Quite simply one of the best videos I've ever seen about climbing K2. And I've seen a lot. Massive congratulations.
Thanks Robert 👍
Been waiting for this moment since your last on Everest. You made it look effortless to reach the summit. Cheers and to many more Jon.
Thanks very much 🙏 hopefully there will be more soon from Ama Dablam, Manaslu and a few others!
Yeh, he makes climbing K2 look easy 😬😁😜
@@justjohn7529 no sweat
@@justjohn7529 Although this video is amazingly filmed and the best footage on this platform for the climb but it's not climbing K2 on it's level, all I see is jugging up on fixed lines I assume the guides fixed (may be completely wrong and Jon lead some sections, i'm only going by what I see in this video)
The fact you see how tiring, steep and technical it is just jumaring and using supp O2 makes it even crazier that there's a few people that have done it solo, unassisted and without supp O2
"I lead treks and expeditions everywhere in the world and share the mountain experience with groups and climbers with maybe less background. I love that, but still I consider climbing the 8000ers alone as my time-off. It gives me time to look back at my life, live in the moment and plan the upcoming.” - Samuli Mansikka
The views are breathtaking. I can see exactly why people want to see these dangerous places
What an incredible video, summiting K2 with no wind.
I've read nearly all the books and watched most videos. Hands down this is the best K2 video. 1000 likes. I was emotional watching you summit. Thank you for sharing this epic.
Thank you Andrew - I really appreciate your comment! I’m delighted you enjoyed watching the video 👍
Can you recommend a good book?
Really brilliant travelogue, love the clarity of the footage. K2 fascinates me, so I am grateful for this recording! Please continue recording further adventures for us all.
This is the best k2/Everest doco on RUclips. Congrats. You were blessed with amazing weather. Scenery - spectacular
No non sense , no Cheap jokes and bantering in a tea house or showing ugly face all the time and quick random flicks all the time. Love how this video is straight to the point. You guys have shown what its actually like when climbing K2
I've searched and scoured the net for the best 8000er summit footage (K2 in particular), and this is the best footage and commentary
by far. What a blessing to be able to see this.
It is awesome! Have you checked out young Ryan Mitchell's videos documenting his climb of Everest? Also a must watch!
Thanks for the film, I always have been fascinated for this Mountain , at 53 bad back and knee, no money, this isn’t the closest I will ever get to climbing the beautiful snd deadly one, thanks again, well done,👌
Thanks Jose, glad you enjoyed the video 👍
you’ve made it look so easy. hats off to you to keep so calm and positive on such a gruelling climb. thank you
Not a climber, but I love watching these, give you folks alot respect, without you I couldn't climb it in my living room. LoL thanks mate, wish you all the best and stay blessed
❤ Right?
Does anyone know if they haul it back down? Or just leave it on the mountain
That traverse under the Serac on the way back looked character-building! Respect.
Jon Gupta and his love for tea is a better love story than twilight.. ❤❤
Haha thank you 🙏
This is exactly the view of the entire walk/climb I have been wanting to see.....I hope you have even more footage you can upload. Just gorgeous! And congratulations!!!
Thanks Kathy! I’m glad you enjoyed the video :)
Thank you very much for your comment 🙏
All of your climbs look so effortless 👍🏼 and all this positivity during the climb is just awesome. Especially with the K2 it sounds like you happen to visit your granny rather than climb the deadliest mountain on the planet 😅 excellent content. Cool attitude. What a level of professionalism. Adds mountaineering a whole other level of humanity and humbleness. At least in my inspiration when I see your work. Thanks for sharing your invaluable experience.
Thanks Dimitry, I really appreciate your comments. I take great pride in being a high altitude guide and providing a highly personable and professional service to my clients. It's been really fun being able to film them and share them with the world too. Hopefully more coming soon...
👏👏👏👏👏👏
I have say this is possibly the best video of K2 climbing I have seen, especially the exquisite photography and visuals of such a magical place on our planet.
The fact you just did that with basically 1 hand is absolutely mind-blowing!! Those views were spectacular thank you!!!
Even in such a positive, brilliantly-calming video ascent of K2, the serac was still terrifying on the way down!
You rock!!
Thanks Trish! I’m glad you enjoyed the video. The deep blue sky’s is often quite remarkable at high altitude 👍
Talk about things falling into place. I suppose hes done an incredible amount of physical training to prepare for something like this but to then get perfect weather and make the whole thing look so easy makes me think even i could do it (i definitely couldn't). Hats off
Amazing video and accomplishment by this gentleman! and to think that Bill House flashed that chimney on sight in 1938 boggles the mind.
You are truly amazing Jon. Love your mindset, always positive even though the climb was really hard. Respect who climb this K2. !
Thanks Vladimir!
Most realistic and calculated approach , well done ! No OTT dramas that install fear just reality as it should be.
Exactly what I was hoping to achieve - glad it came across this way! Thanks for the comment 🙏
Big respect to you as an young black American from the south just started getting the history of Mount Everest and the story how brave of you to handle the mountain 300s deaths since 1920
💀💀
That last scene was formidable! THAT last scene made that whole video amazing.
The colour of the sky at the top is insanely beautiful! Plus love the moon in the distance!
One of the best mountaineering videos I've ever seen . Everest summit looks like a cakewalk in front of K2😂
Everest is easy to climb bcz that is not peaky K2 is more dangerous than Everest
Absolutely brilliant ….the whole route beautifully captured and well presented. This is easily the best video I have seen on K2 …absolutely superb…well done …for a successful effortless climb but also to have the energy to film the whole journey? Respect to you. Finally my appreciation to the guys who lay the ropes! We should try capturing that …would be wonderful to see!
K2 wanted this man to have a beautiful summit. The mountain accepted his climb and it’s beautiful
The clarity of objects in the distance is breathtaking
So so cool! Always been fascinated by this mountain, and it was so wonderful to watch a climb of it while feeling the good spirits the whole time. Congrats!
hey Jon, thank you so much for making this epic summit movie. the filming and explaining everything is just awesome. thank you for the great great work and well done!
Thanks Jonathan, much appreciated!
Such a professional you are Jon! Positive, not too much talking, and excellent video quality! You make it look so neat, systematic, and doable!
Absolute respect. Balls of steel and superb skills and bravery.
Otherworldly, serene video of K2 climbing with an amazing FPV. You, Sir, are a monster! Thank you.
Crazy how you have such a good attitude during the climb
That Serac on the downclimb was one of the scariest things I've ever seen! Can't imagine the psychological toll of being underneath something that big. How did that feel during the bottleneck?
Agree with the other commenters, this should have millions of views- Amazing achievement!
I want this level of calmness in my life....Thanks for uploading the video raw and real.
You're welcome.
One of the best movies about K-2. Such a nice quality!
Thanks Alexander!
Oh my, this is what I've been waiting for. Such nice footage bro! Should have added a 'don't try this yourself' disclaimer. I'm in a plane to Pakistan right now because you made it look so easy ;)
Haha….you’re a little late for this season…wait 11 months 👌🤣
One of the best videos of K2 I've seen. Absolutely amazing. Well done. Onwards and upwards..
Thanks Joe!
