I did this hammer gap mod to my 7.5” nickle model tonight. I found an easy way to move the hammer spring was to remove the small bits as in the video, then while pressing on the hammer lug, pull the hammer back to full cock and let the trigger hold it there while jamming a thin, flat piece of metal under the hammer and between the spring and the body of the gun. Once in place, gently remove the hammer and replace it in the full forward position and over the tensioned hammer spring should pop into the correct slot. Carefully replace the small pieces and then replace the sideplate. The whole thing took less time than it did to type this. This is a neat mod that is totally reverseable if I should ever want to shoot the gun. It really looks and sounds real. Thank you for this post.
Thanks so much for posting this. It was hard pulling and keeping that mainspring back long enough to get the hammer on. The barrel was a devil. I like the "man with no name" grips. I have the Uberti 38 special 1851 Navy colt that was originally developed by the prop department of "Good the Bad and the Ugly" for easy reloads instead of cap and ball reloads. Uberti turned it into a 38 special firing replica. Kind of off topic but.....

I did this transformation on my Colt SAA Peacemaker. I didn't like the free cylinder because without the barrel the BBs lose direction. As for the hammer, after positioning the spring in the other position, I realized that the gas escapes as it ends up activating the valve. Anyway, I left it as it came from the factory. For decorative purposes, it's fine but for functional purposes I don't recommend it.

Hi, great idea to pull the hammer to the position and insert a thin piece of metal to hold the spring. How thick was the metal piece, from the video it appears to be about 1/16 of an inch, and about 1/2 inch wide?
I have done this hammer mod to my Umarex Limited Edition Double Aces Duel Set. I am currently modding a box for display purposes and will be posting it up soon on my channel - BB ARMOURER. I will be telling people how I achieved the hammer mod. If you are still getting notifications of comments, can I post a link to this channel for this mod. I have not done the barrel mod but did do it to a KWC .357 Python a couple of years ago. Not sure if I'll do it to my pair of .45's, as they will be mainly for display. They look great now the hammer is fully home. I have a nickel plate version and a blank fire one as well.
You can do both modifications separately. Please remember that the goal of these mods are to make the gun more realistic by behaving as a real steel, but it makes the gun not usable for firing BBs. It's for manipulation purpose.
It's already there. But with this modification you CAN'T shoot BB's anymore since the hammer will keep the CO2 valve opened. This modification is to transform the airgun into a demo gun. So if you want to shoot it again you must restore the original spring position on the hammer.
I'm doing this on a remington 1875, could you please tell me how to insert the hammer? if I try to put it on the second hole, I'm hindered from inserting it due to the rear sight being too long
To get the hammer sping back what I did is the following: I put the hammer back to have the spring in the desired position and then I inserted a thin plate of metal under the hammer and in front of the spring to maintain it in this postion. After that you can remove the hammer, mount it with the spring in the new position and remove what you used to maintain the spring.

Hello, I was wondering what your thoughts are about getting a Kolser replica or a Umarex Colt airsoft replica? Since I'm more into airsoft I was thinking about the Umarex but it seems to me that the Kolser looks better. What are your thoughts about it?
Hello, it depends on the gun model. I have some Denix and Kolser non firing Colt SAA replicas and the Umarex SAA is really better regarding the mechanical parts. Kolser is a bit better than Denix but the SAA model is not really good compare to a real steel, I prefer the Umarex. If you are interested in other old west gun replicas the new Kolser Navy 1851 is really good, they really improved the quality on this model and it's very close to a real steel, all parts of the gun are cloned from a Pietta 1851 black powder gun. The best non firing replicas I have are from MGC (Japan) and all models are really good. But it's hard to find them now since these replicas are from 1970's and no more produced.
@@LauCass Hello, first of all thanks for your in depth reply! The model that I'm interested in is the Colt SAA 5'5", I would like to have one just for spinning and decoration. Some questions regarding the Umarex: - Is the Umarex closer to the real steel and how is the hand feel of it compared to the real one and a Kolser? - Are those custom black wood grips for the Umarex because the standard grips were plastic IIRC? If so, potentially where could I buy them?
@@naajzzzHello, from my point of view the Umarex is really better than a Kolser. The purpose of the mod in the tutorial is to make it feeling like a real steel when you manipulate it. The cylinder spinning is a real pleasure after modification and it's not possible to do this with a Kolser SAA. Moreover the balance of the Umarex is really good and I love the hand feeling of the Umarex. The only one thing that is not really accurate on the Umarex is the grips size, it's higher than a real one (due to the space needed for CO2 sparklet). The black grips are not wood, I just painted the plastic grips in black on this one. You can find real wood grips for Umarex SAA (and some other old west replicas) on this web site, but it's a bit expensive: www.woodengripsandmore.de/c/holzgriffschalen/umarex-colt-saa-holzgriffschalen
@@LauCass Thanks for the reply! Yeah, I've heard about the weird grip angle on the Umarex but besides that it looks like a great replica. So more than likely I'll get one of those!
@@LauCass I wouldn’t mind having the hammer gap because I still want it to fire, but to get the cylinder free spin, would shortening the inner barrel so it’s barely touching the cylinder be a better alternative instead of removing it entirely? Because removing the inner barrel would cause the firing to have low accuracy and shorter distance, but if you just shorten it to the point it isn’t locking the cylinder, barely touching it, it should only drop the accuracy and range just a tiny bit, right? This was, we get the best of both worlds, being able to fire and free spin the cylinder. If this can be done, how do you shorten the inner barrel? I’m totally new at this and I want to do it right, so I will really appreciate the help if you can advise me on what to do.
@@atlasprime6193 I never tried to keep the revolver firing and just get the cylinder spinning freely. I think it' feasible but better than shortening the inner barrel I would try to just shorten the inner barrel spring. This spring applies the pressure of the inner barrel to avoid gaz leak in the barrel.
To get the hammer sping back what I did is the following: I put the hammer back to have the spring in the desired position and then I inserted a thin plate of metal under the hammer and in front of the spring to maintain it in this postion. Hello friend, a question... Is the Co2 valve part of the Peacemaker the same as the Remington Crosman 1875???? It's just that I read your comment that the hammer and spring are the same in mod. Because my valve failed in the revolver Crosman Remington 1875 and I don't know if putting a valve part of the peqcemaker umarex works by installing it, towards the Crosman Remington 1875?.
I never tried to mount the Umarex SAA Co2 valve on the Crosman 1875 but it looks exactly the same. I'm pretty sure you can put a SAA valve on the 1875.
@@LauCass Thank you i apreciatted... another question i have... The crosman 1875 revolver is ambidextrous using bbs and pellets. The Peacemaker model only Pellets with black grips, can you use Bbbs and pellets at the same time? Haven't you tried shooting with Bbs and vice versa? I want to buy a Colt Peacemaker from umarex but it says only pellets according to umarex in use, but I don't know if I can put bbs in it, as it usually is in the Crosman1875, both pellets and bbs.
@@Epiphone444 there is two versions of the Umarex SAA. One that is pellets only with a rifled barrel and one that is BBs by default with a slick barrel but that you can use it with pellets, so this version is similar to the Crosman 1875. However the Umarex SAA with slick barrel is not sold with both cartridge type as it is for the Crosman 1875.
You must use something to move the spring to the desired position. I have a thin plate of metal to do this but I read in the comments that someone used the handle of spoon.
I don't have any King Arms but I think that mechanical parts design is different. However I guess it could be possible to do the something similar on K.A.
Question, If I do this wouldn’t I mess up the hammer spring in the gun I think I already did because I tried this but I didn’t do the cylinder thing I have no more gap but I think I messed up the gun because I tried to reverse it but the hammer was very weak

Salut! Bonne video.
Well I’m really going to be real with y’all this makes it look more realistic that’s it but I caused one problem. The hammer spring will get fucked up in the process meaning your going to have to keep it as is for the rest of the time unless you call umerax to get it repaired. The reason there is a gap is so the hammer doesn’t rest on the c02 since the hammer gap was fixed there is going to be a constant waste of co2
As it's said in the video this modification makes the gun non firing. It's for collection purpose. Anyway it's easy to revert it to make the gun firing again.
With this modification it can't fire anymore. The goal is to have a non firing gun that is closer from a real steel about the mechanical part. But you can go back to the original configuration in a few minutes.
Maybe it could fire a real bullet after this mod! If one was made small enough, as soon Umarex doesn't make anything bigger than 4.5 mm for this type of gun
for this result, why not buying a replica, there is at least 2 makers, Denix and Kolser... the grips are more realistic in size and they no need modifications....🤔
I also have Denix and Kolser replicas but the mechanical parts are really crappy compare to the Umarex airgun. When you manipulate it the Umarex is far better than a Denix or Kolser.
It looks like to do the hammer mod there's nothing special other then changing position of hammer spring ? As for cylender spin...your removed the barrel. With hammer mod soes cow leak? You removed the inner barrel, with out the inner barrel you can not shoot the gun. If by chance you could your shots would go wild and there would be zero accuracy and very low fps. I would live both the hammer mod and the free spinning but I need to retain my accuracy. I love your video however the impression.i get is now neither of those can fire and 8f can.will.have zero accurracy low fps and very low range.
Did you even read what I'm saying at the beginning of the video (text in red)? Yes of course this mod makes the gun not firing, the goal is to get a demo gun with mechanic similar to a real steel, that's it. Anyway the mod is completely reversible in a few minutes.

Can this be done on the CO2 Colt Smoke Wagon?
Yes this can be done on the Umarex Smoke Wagon model. But keep remember that this mod makes the gun non firing.
Hello,wy we can't shoot after modification ?
Because when you remove the hammer gap, the CO2 valve will stay open.
I cant get the hammer spring back. Pls give more detail how
To get the hammer sping back what I did is the following: I put the hammer back to have the spring in the desired position and then I inserted a thin plate of metal under the hammer and in front of the spring to maintain it in this postion. After that you can remove the hammer, mount it with the spring in the new position and remove what you used to maintain the spring.
Thank you, i will try that
Can hammer and barrel be revert back if I want the revolver to be able to fire again?
Yes it can.
@@LauCass Great, thanks!
Please can you tell me the width of the metal plate that yoy use to push the hammer spring backwards? Thank you....
It's about 10mm.
@@LauCass Thank you very much for your quick answer!👍
Can someone explain why it won't fore BBS after but will fire pellets please😊. Ah got it now it becomes useless and just a toy.
Why do they have the gap between the hammer in the first place?
This is by design to trigger the CO2 valve
Where did you get the snake emblem from?
Here: www.westernguns.fr/accessoires/accessoires-des-armes-et-de-tir/1495-insert-rattlesnake.html
Isn’t the umarex a bit bigger than the actual SAA?
The size of this Umarex replica is the same than the actual SAA, except for the grips that is taller. The reason is the size of the CO2 sparclet.
how or where did you get the grips? im in dire need of different grips
I found the grips here: www.westernguns.fr/accessoires/accessoires-des-armes-et-customs/1495-insert-rattlesnake.html
Thanks for this video. That hammer gap is uglier than a man'sass. I'm getting into some airsoft SAAs and that gap has got to go.😃
Can you tell me how you can move the hammer spring to the desired position? because it is quite difficult to move
You must use something to move the spring to the desired position. I have a thin plate of metal to do this but I read in the comments that someone used the handle of spoon.
Excellent. 👍
Does this work with the king arms SAA too? (or similarly}
I don't have any King Arms but I think that mechanical parts design is different. However I guess it could be possible to do the something similar on K.A.
@@LauCass thanks
Now how do you remove all the white letter markings?
just sand it off
how much more likely does this make the spring break?
I did this mode on several revolvers since more than a year and no spring break on all of these guns.
Ok what if I jus modify the hammer and change it to that new position will it still shoot the bb’s?
No, the hammer modification will keep CO2 valve opened, so it will be not possible to shoot BBs.
@@LauCass ok thanks
Question, If I do this wouldn’t I mess up the hammer spring in the gun I think I already did because I tried this but I didn’t do the cylinder thing I have no more gap but I think I messed up the gun because I tried to reverse it but the hammer was very weak
If the hammer spring is to weak after you revert the mod, just thighten it with two clamp.
Good job. Are you interested in selling the 4.5 caliber barrel removed from this revolver? I need to replace the barrel on mine and I can't find this part for sale. I can buy more than one if you have it.
No, I'm not interested in selling the barrel. Sorry.
@@LauCass Thank you anyway.
On my one, the screws are too tight to undo, what should I do?
Which screws are you talking about? There is no screw involved in the modification.
@@LauCass at 1:11 you need to remove the screws to remove the frame and access the mechanism
@@binguser344 yes, but there is no problem to remove the screws by using an adapted screwdriver.
Does it shoot with no issues???
No, this mod makes the gun non firing. The goal is to transform the airgun into a demo gun that behaves as a real steel.
@@LauCass Aahh ok 👍 thanks for the relpy
In the end, this mod broke the pin necessary to have the cylinder rotating... too bad.
It would be great if we could add a bigger screw head to the hammer screw, in order to cover this ugly philips screw..
You're right, the screws on the Umarex SAA are not acurate at all.
Just glue the head of a larger screw with super glue.
But it now would be very inaccurate surely ?
With this modification it can't fire anymore. The goal is to have a non firing gun that is closer from a real steel about the mechanical part. But you can go back to the original configuration in a few minutes.
@@LauCass Ahh I get you. I performed the hammer gap mod and I am pleased. I would prefer to keep it as a firer for now.
Is it going to be functional if you perform only the hammer trick?
@@stnikou no, because the hammer will always push on the CO2 valve.
Maybe it could fire a real bullet after this mod! If one was made small enough, as soon Umarex doesn't make anything bigger than 4.5 mm for this type of gun
So you've just decommissioned it then
for this result, why not buying a replica, there is at least 2 makers, Denix and Kolser... the grips are more realistic in size and they no need modifications....🤔
I also have Denix and Kolser replicas but the mechanical parts are really crappy compare to the Umarex airgun. When you manipulate it the Umarex is far better than a Denix or Kolser.
...you...
But after this the gun wont be able to shoot... 😵
This is not for me!!! I like to use it for shooting.
Interesting though
Why do this? It ruins the gun. Just get a denix replica.
Now it has 4 hammer clicks intead of 3 so messes up the sound completly
Real Colt guns have 4 clicks: C.O.L.T.
