    This weekend I will be applying a 4-in dryer duct flashing that is 18 in square and 12 in tall. From what I've read and understand on this tar and gravel roof the gravel must be pushed aside and in this case it's not much just about a quarter of an inch granite pea gravel. The tar must be primed, tar or rubber underlayment should be laid and melted in with a torch, a substrate over the top, more underlayment torched in, the flashing wire brushed and rubber primed, screwed or nailed down, top coat torched over the top. Finally sleeve the 4 in dryer duct through. I'm not sure what products are best, you have henry, gaff, Lano, never done this one before, trial by fire.

    Awesome way to explain the yes and not of the repair/patch! Even better was the way you kept it simple and also showed more than one kind of repair/patch in one video!!
    Most of the videos I have seen don't even answer the question for me let alone give me extra knowledge..
    Keep up the great work and teaching others like me.
    Salud and here's to hoping you find that fame soon!

    Why do you have to put tar under and ontop of metal on torch down flat roof but not a shingle roof??

    • @Garciasroofing
      @Garciasroofing  3 года назад

      i don't put tar under , only if i don't use a skirt of smooth torch around , then I use tar, and use tar when I join one piece of metal to another one .

      @@Garciasroofing so In this vid did you degranulate under the metal? Or just around it? And you just used spray primer ontop but would you ever use tar or spray and tar

    Thanks for the video. We had a big rain storm in our new (to us) house and got a small leak in the bathroom. I go up on the roof and the bathroom vent looked just like that, a plain metal flashing on existing roof with some screws and the tiniest amount of sealant (which had cracked) around the edges. We have a low slope roof and it's no wonder it leaked...

    I work around a few hacks and they laugh at me when i do it your way which equals the right way. I try to tell them not to nail high on the shingles, don't put nails in the seams, don't over sink nails, and a bunch of other simple things they can't understand. Please keep making these videos because you are one of the ones who cares and knows what he is doing.

    Round the corners of the metal. Remove. Dirt. Around the the pipe to be sealed. Seal base of the pipe with rubberized plastic cement. If using a torch inbed all granuals around the patch leave about an inch from the edge of the patch. Prime both sides of the metal base. Heat up the roof where the you are putting the roof Jack stick the metal roof jack in the sticky area. Nail it screw it in. Cut a piece of torch on base leaving 2 inch from the inner circle and a minimum 4 inches passed the metal base all around. Torch it on. Repeat with cap torch on but leaving 1 inch from the inner circle. And extending out 6-8inch from the metal base. Torch it on get a nice bleed out 1/4 inch all around and inner circle. Ms detail or use rubber cement the inner circle lap inbed lose granuals in the ms detail or rubberized plastic cement. If you in a clod area insulate the inner roof jack to prevent. Condensation. If the roof jack has a rubber seal. Caulk it with approved sealant. To prevent rubber seal from leaking. A patch done probably should last 25years.

      Benny Brito ...use the same product but make sure you overlap to match the old seam, use asphalt primer and final, overlap at least 1 foot on the sides of the old roof. Good luck.

    I have been in the roofing industry for over thirty five years, this video is totally incorrect. Residential flashing on vent pipes where a pitch pocket should be installed. The modified "patch" is totally wrong. Please look at how to install a pitch pocket. learn to float the granules when doing any repair. This "repair" will not last and I hope it is fixed properly. take this video down

    i have been installing commercial roofing systems for 30 plus years. tpo, epdm, 4 ply, and modified bitumen systems. i have installed these systems mechanically fastened, fully adhered and ballasted most of which are designed and inspected by architects. If one of my roofers was to torch in a curb and fold the corners over as you did they would be kicking their lunch can down the road. Just being water tight doesn't cut it for me, it has to look professional after completed. it's easy to fool someone who has no idea how to properly install a modified roofing system but you should realize that your going to have professionals watching your video as well. Just a tip, next time degranulate the proper way with a trowel and torch not a wire brush and there will be no need to prime the cap sheet.

    • @Garciasroofing
      @Garciasroofing  8 лет назад +2

      Well roofer , you should know that hot mop system are not compatible with heat weld systems or self adhere as well.
      they only system that works with hot mop , is hot mop , cold apps and emulsion , all those are the only systems that work with hot mop.
      About degranulating the ...HOT MOP ??? the only time I heard degranulating was when I was taking my torch down class , when I was a union worker.
      I did thousands ...1,000.'S of squares of hot mop and we never degranulated , but I respect your knowledge .
      we did , hot mop, cold app, foam applications, single ply ( TPO, PVC), hot mop with rock system, etc.... you name it .ALL GOVERNMENT JOBS, not residential , stricty commercial jobs.
      they only time when you degranulate is when adhering a piece of torch to another piece of torch , you apply heat and then with your trowel , degranulate.
      Or maybe in your state they degranulate , but it doesn't make any difference if you do it or not ,it's a hot mop system and it's just required to be completely clean and a layer of asphalt primer will do the work.
      I'm thinking ...you want things your way ...that's not team work fellow roofer.
      greetings.
      Eric.
      P.S.. Architects are the ones that design structures , but they are not roofers , don't listen to them.
      Engineers : are the ones that take the drawing from the architects and do the calculations on the weights for the structures and approve the design.
      I have many friends that are designers, architects and engineers , they all have to listen to the roofer ...not the roofer has to listen to them ...learn your trade roofer , show your experience when you have to !
      have a nice day.

      higgy one Hmmm,I too have been a journeyman roofer/Waterproofers for over 30 years ,I've gotten 12 Tremco projects with perfect 10's and won a jacket ,I've installed prolly a million squares of hot mopped or cold sprayed built up roofs ,I've installed EPDM roofs way back when you washed the seams with gasoline and Goodyear made the " PE rail " roofs & Firestone used wood Nailers at the wall , you can go to " Royal Roofing Orion Michigan " and see my multi thousand square " inspected " projects by clicking on Built up Roofs ,Green Roofs and Single Ply , I've done every premium cap sheet system there is like Siplast with Chrome Veral flashing ,I installed the only residential building in N America with a 3 ply Siplast modified base sheet with a total Chrome Veral roofing system on an 8/12 pitch & had Siplast give me an award ,I've attended all the " Master " installer programs from Firestone ,GAF ,Garland ,Tremco ,Koppers ,Trocal ,etc etc etc so I've been where you say you've been ,which means you & I both know that none of these roofers methods will leak ,you talk about " Degranulating " instead of priming but you don't mention every manufacturer prefers priming over burning the granules and degrading the skim sheets in the material ,every inspector prefers a primed lap over a scorched and Degranulating substrate ,your just being pissy because they didn't make the little corner football patches and chose to fold & wrap corners ,which was industry standard for decades ,let's see some pics of your work so we can compare ,I've posted where pics of my work can be seen so let's see yours ,there's nothing being done here that isn't 100% textbook .

      Greg Maness ...I think you're missing the point of this video sir, I uploaded this video to show the viewers that, a build up roofing system can be repaired with self adhere membranes also, do you really think i don't know what I'm doing? it's a build up roofing system sir,( base sheet, 2 layers of ply and cap sheet) all hot mopped.
      Now according to the books, a buid up roofing system can be repaired with : hot mop, torch down, self adhere membranes, asphalt emulsion along with polyester, roof coating, cold applications membranes can be applied also.
      i spent 7 years busting my ass,under the heat installing 150 squares of 2 ply hot mopped and 200 squares of cap sheet , all done in 1 single day sir.
      it's sad to come accross roofers like yourself that think they know,it all, i respect your knowledge and you should respect mine, I'm a Union roofer also i roofed Flat roofs with hot mop, single ply, gravel, cold apps, torch down, foam applications, etc...you name it.I have a school.
      have a nice day roofer.
