- roll roofing ...In this video I guide thru the steps on installing a basic flat roof following all the installation codes and regulations. Hope you like it and gives you an Idea about this type of roofing applications.
Greetings.
Eric.
Hey Eric I love your videos. I am a homeowner with a flat roof. I have had almost every local roofing company do repairs that either didn't fix or made it worse. I need a new roof but cannot find a local company that is worthy. Thanks to you and your videos, I have learned enough to make repairs and maintenance until I can find a good company. Thank you brother I look forward to more of your videos.
You can do self adhere roofing system yourself
I.U.O.E local 147 here thanks for your video putting 2/12 pitch on my garage. This helped me.
Eric, thank you for posting your videos. I am learning a ton! I paid a guy $3000 to do a repair on part of my flat roof and when he was done, we had more leaks than before he did the repair. So I had another roof laborer come in to fix the new leaks which he didn't do it right because it's still leaking. I've lived in the home for 13 years with various leaks. So, since I can't get someone to do it right, me and my wife are going to do it ourselves so we know it will be done right and to learn so we can do our own repairs. We will do a section at a time until we finally have the entire roof redone. Your videos and others allow me to learn each step as we go. I really appreciate people like you that take the time to teach those of us that are not familiar with roofing techniques and materials. I like how professional you are and that you describe how to do it and why. Makes a lot of sense to me. So I hope our 13 year roofing nightmare will finally come to an end. I do have one question. If your roof has low spots where the water is pooling, what do you use to raise up the low spots so the water will run to the canale drains? The guy I paid 3000 dollars to fix it, did not raise it enough, the water still pools in the low areas. It's so bad I have to leave a sump pump on the roofs low spot so I can pump it off when it rains. The roof will hold almost 2 inches of water before I turn the sump pump on! It's crazy we have had to do that for so many years now. It would really help if you could give me some advice on what we can use to raise up those low areas that are holding water. Thank you Eric!
Thanks for such a nice comment...to raise the low spots use plywood sheathing...get a level and follow the slope of the water
Did u decide what ur gonna do can u film it
@@happydays454 - I'm going to build it up with some new 2X10's and basically build a roof over the old one, but with a low pitch to it since it's a Spanish style flat roof design. The way I"m going to do it, it will still looks like a flat roof from the ground level, but if you get on the roof, it will show a low pitched roof with rafters that drop down to 0 rise, leaving a channel for the water to follow and drain into the canales. Yeah, I could film it no problem. I'll post one when I start. I'm just about finished building a nice chicken coop. Looks like a little beach house on stilts. The chicks are loving it!
@@michaelwood5519 thank yeah i got sw style home too puddles every where i need to fix right
I watched alot of roofing videos but your the frist to show a cricket I had no idea what that was until now. Im with you on painting the pipes and I thought that the white flame on the torch was the cause of structure fire...keep the knowledge caming
Good information. I used to love down there I. The South Bay. Worked in Manhattam Beach. I know the area. Moved up to Was State well above Spokane on a wooded Lake lot. Good to learn from a South Bay Guy. O need to reroof a flat/rounded mobile home roof. I think you showed me how. Thank you !
your educational background on explaining is very important for roofing torch down. But even down to how the wood is supposed to be laid out
Your videos are great man. I’m not a roofer by any means but your videos have helped my do my garage roof. Keep up the killer work man!
Thank you for your videos.. it helps me to direct my guys when I see someone making a mistake
Good to see a lady doing some research before letting someone do this expensive work on roofs. More people should do that so they know what's supposed to be done correctly.
Eric thank you for sharing your knowledge and taking time to post really your videos
Greetings and salutations. Good video Eric. Thank you.
Really good vid. Thank you.
Good job Erick , thanks for taking your time to do a video . Keep posting video carnal

Eric excellent trabajo en todos tu tus jales!!!
Te quería preguntar si un roofer le pone al flashing black mastic. Después se le puede poner del blanco que tu les pones ? Y si me dices que si como se llama? Para you comprarlo. Si es posible me das tu información para hablarte para un presupuesto.
Excellent video, well done, but I still talked my husband out of torching.
excellent video....thanks!!
good work Eric
Hey, Eric - I've watched a bunch of your videos and I think this one is the best as far as "step by step" instructions. I like how you took the time to cut the 1/8" gap in the plywood and the detail of nailing the gaps.
Question - does that "inner ply" layer around the edge come with the edging material? And you didn't show putting the mastic over the edge. Does it have to dry before torching?
Thanks for making the videos! I used to live in Manhattan Beach back in the 90's - nice to see it again.
+Steve Murwin There are 2 ways to do the edging metal when installing torch....
1: You install a layer of smooth torch all the way around the edge and then you install the edge metal on top before installing the final layer of granulated torch.
2; Apply roof cement under the edge metal if you don't have smooth torch installed, you have to apply roof cement under all the pieces of edge metal or you can apply directly to the base sheet and then set the metal on top .
3: The roof cement doesn't have to be dry , just make sure you don't make black marks over the granulated torch.
And by "the torch", you mean the actual cap sheet? But I think I understand what you're saying. Thank you!
+Steve Murwin Yes the granulated cap sheet , we call it granulated torch down cap sheet...
cool - thanks for your help, Eric!
@@Garciasroofing hola erick
In ireland we dont nail underlay we torch that aswell we prime the ofb board
Can the base sheet be self adhesive ?
Que materiales usaste para el flat ruff. Great video man keep it up. Necesito arreglar my flat ruff pero no se que materiales usar
here in Texas on the coastal bend area, you have to nail with simplex 1 1/2" , 3 rows on field 6 or 7" on center and laps 4 or 6 nails oc depending on design wind pressure.
Do you install torch down roofing Dallas Texas
Why use that little strip under the edge metal? Why not put peel and stick down then the metal? Pretty sure i seen you doing that b4. Why you doing it this way ontop of fiber but below peel and stick?
That is not plywood but OSB oriented strand board. Roof decking does not need gaps just use enough nails or screws and it will stay put. Gaps lead to leaks. Decking will only swell from getting wet. Check local codes first as well
Eric, next time you change the plywood put the wires and cables inside
You should do a video on insulation crikets.
Thanks for this video! Did you ever do a Single Ply video as you mentioned?
How can you be contacted for a flat roof job.
Nice work...
Alex, I have watched many many of your roofing videos, doing my home work for my new roof job here in N. Georgia
I thought "he knows what he is doing and does excellant good roof work" he must be a "Union Man" right !!
Can you show how you torch around pipes and flashing
What is the 10"-12" black strip you put under the flashing called?
Membrane
Mini roll
I live in Orange County Ca.
don't remove it, that tab will stop the water from penetrating all the way down to the sheathing and will make the water on top of the shingle underneath in case of a leak, also it prevents the shingles from sticking when are in the bundle.
ERic you said will teach us the APP torch down but not there after your lunch. Thank you anyway the the first part.
It rained all day and my flat roof didn’t leak until. 6:30 pm. I thought I had it done how you figure that out.
That circular saw cord😳 OSHA says no no
how come you guys dont use sheathing clips? i know plywood will warp one way on one sheet and another way on a different sheet. ive never seen any one use them in cali so far
You forgot the smooth under the pipe flashings
Are you in Cali

What's the triangular piece called by skylight? - I heard "can't strip"
J M that’s what’s it’s called can’t strip also look up tapered edge
any body can tell me which type of nails they use and how come the hammer can hold the nail before nail down? I think nails with plastic cap is too thick.
metal cap nail with a hammer that has a built in magnet.
It's called angel fillet
Que pones debajo antes del torch
the only thing that I will do different is apply white granules on exposed bleeding.
Touchdown can be either APP or SBS. Just saying 😌
No warning lines?
learn to use roll roofing adhesive under roll roofing, stander felt will not keep it flat...
como se llaman esa baina la clavan el base sheet
Eric, no doubt you been around roofing for a while. few things...you say safety? you have none. sorry just have to say it. wrong flashing at jacks. hope this isnt a high wind zone either. 1" diameter simplex nails wont hold much at spacing you guys used and honestly isnt the right thing to use anyways. try plates with screws if you want to do it right. then, using mixed materials? lol man. wont be warranted apparently. people who dont know anything at all about roofing will like the finished look but keep in mind whats really important with a roof...watertight and resist wind. assuming you are not required to meet Code with insulation or fire ratings. combustible deck if you even want to call OSB plywood. BTW, no need to rip the joints wider on long dimensions of the OSB. Why? because plywood doesnt move that direction. if you have a case its on the narrow ends where the movement happens. would love to help you become the best roofer around. you have the talent. just need someone with the behind the scenes knowledge to help you.
Gravel stop is what a ROOFER calls it, we they still use it. That might be the reason you do side jobs and aren't on a union roofing crew, Brent Beasley and local 220 didn't lose much. Nice try.
Aqui te falta clavos wey, no mames!😂😂😂
My roof is the torch down
16 pulgadas no dos pies loco 😂
dangl kn
Luísito cada 16 pulgadas verga vas como cada 3 pies luísito Ponte verga jajaja es broma lo q pasa q me gusta mucho ver tus vídeos eric
Talks too much don't tell me nothing... only show what is done already... show me how it's done step by step...
Toyota and Honda are not the same car. But they both make 4 cylinder engine.
😂 16 pulgadas verga😂
canstrip? is that what its called? why would u buy it? you could make something and alot of it out of plywood osb or out of lumber in bulk instead of buying that thing. that looks like junk anyways
Hey Eric. how many times have you cut your saw cord. maybe it wasn't you maybe one of your border jumping helpers
Chuck Taylor King you got no life
Chuck seems to be upset he gets no work
Your roof is not PLYwood only MDF - fiberboard. By new rules you should be venting layers of felt.
That is not plywood it is OSB oriental strand board
you talk about clean i can see shoe marks all over and very poor skills sorry
everyone that does roofing knows that foot prints like that will go away in a few weeks o couple months.
roof will look white and clean then.
is not about talking shit in every video but when the job is bad you want me to said is good fuck that he is no good period
Ese trabajo no sirve camarada no lleva tachuelas enmedio Javier aprendan a clavar el base primero y subes los videos
