- It has been a whirlwind few months for San Diegan Eric Weddle.
The beloved former San Diego Chargers safety came out of retirement and played a pivotal role in the Los Angeles Rams' Super Bowl win before re-retiring.
CBS 8’s Eric Kahnert caught up with the 37 year old at his new office: the Rancho Bernardo High School football field.

Everybody is gonna remember the final drive in the super bowl when Donald made plays on 3rd and 1 and 4th and 1. But dont forget it was weddle who made the tackle 1yrd shy of the first down on first down.
As a chargers fan I met him in the parking lot and he was so nice and wished me happy birthday. He’s a beast

What a story! Being a Ram's fan, I was so tickled for all of the players for winning the Super Bowl, but not as much as for Weddle and OBJ finally getting that ring they deserved.
Did you SEE that last Bengals drive? Eric made a one-armed tackle to prevent a first down. The D-line did the rest. But that first down tackle by Eric defies all logic. I've watched it and rewatched it many times, and what Eric Weddle did was truly one the most amazing tackles I've ever seen. I think he actually used his legs and feet for most of it. Incredible. What a finish - AMAZING!
