These are common assessment of hamstring mobility. However, many other factors can limit the range of motion a person can achieve, such as an anteriorly rotated pelvis, hip capsule stiffness, and stiffness in the IT band. For example:when the pelvis is unstable, the nervous system will often stiffen the hamstrings to provide stability to that region. Therefore,a person with good intentions will stretch his or her hamstrings to gain range of motion, not realizing that it can actually create pelvic instability. That’s why stretching alone rarely produces a long-term improvement:the underlying problem of poor stability wasn’t addressed. In the straight leg raise from the supine position, if a person is unable to achieve 90 degrees of motion,it’s easy to assume that stiff hamstrings are the problem. However, research demonstrates that the highest level of tissue tension during a straight leg raise occurs in the IT band.

Have had serious back pain several times and totally overlooked tight hamstrings as the cause. I now stretch lying on my back on the floor but I us a long band looped around my ankle and looped back around a table leg behind my head. I can now hold the position completely relaxed with my hands holding the strap about at chest height. This helps enormously in relaxing while stretching. The long band has a much more vertical line which also prevents pulling the leg downwards and also takes a lot less force. The results have been nothing short of amazing. An almost instant fix after two weeks of agony. Any stationary object will do provided it is firmly anchored and preferably has a provision like a cross bar somewhere to prevent the strap sliding downwards. A door knob for example could also work.

Love the videos guys. Just wondering if anyone can answer... from a physiological point of view how and why does pushing the leg away from you help when doing the stretch with the towel (see ~ 5:20)? IOW why not just pull then *relax* the leg repeatedly. I assume it's about sort of 'flossing' the muscle though a further/longer range and possibly strengthening the hamstring muscle as well. For lack of putting it a better way... why bother? What is happening with the *fibres*? Also, I'm wondering how long it would take to *really* lengthen one's hamstrings? My hamstrings (and calves) have ALWAYS been really tight and I sure would like to see them *greatly* loosened up. Would it be to much to imagine being able to pull ones leg back as much as say 2+ feet more after a period of dedicated stretching? I get the feeling they are not the sort of muscles that lengthen and loosen very easily. Maybe muscles are just like this and I'm imagining they could be SO much longer and looser. Many thanks for your efforts in creating and uploading so many great and helpful videos.
Their information has held to make a huge difference in my back and knees. I like this one too because after my arthroscopic surgery my hamstring was very tight. Using these tutorials has decreased my use of Nsaids and improved my flexibility. Thank you😊
You are always so wonderful and happy and funny! Thank you. Also, the hamstrings are always tight because we are mostly standing on our feet. Do we need to overstretch them? Isn’t it what you do?
The slightly better way to do the door frame one is to start with the non stretching leg bent and flattening it once the stretching leg is in place. Also using the strap on the tops of the toes to " top off the stretch". Personally I find if I try and put the tight leg in place the tightness just bends the knee or stops it getting into position for a stretch.
3:33 what is really is difference with that hamstring stretch? This is the classic?! So mine are locked up from weightlifting 🏋️♀️ and sitting a lot more during shutdown!

Thank you, 22 years ago I was considered a Contortionist, now after spending 22 years on Dialysis and now off for almost 4years, I'm trying to do simple yoga 🧘♀️ and walking 🚶♀️ and my biggest pain is in my hamstrings( very, very, intensely excruciating pain) the chiropractor said they are full of KNOTS 🪢 and because of Dialysis fluid restrictions 4- 8oz of water 💧 a day max , created my muscles fibers to be very non-flexible ( dry and calcified) Nevertheless, I don't expect to join Circus Solai 😀 but, I do want to dance very flexibly while expressing my testimony 😀 Thank you for your video as a 1st proper home start to self heal without a pill. If you have more recommendations of your videos or anything else, feel free to share with me, and maybe we can do a video together among my friends and globally to help others on Dialysis to share the importance of stretching/ exercises when our health is compromised
Peace, Health,and Wealth unto you👁🧚🏾♀️🗝🌟👍🏼🌞
thankz guyz..... im working on my hams and this video helps a lot. keep blazin you two!
Hey there. First off, thanx for the valuable content. Love UR videos. My question is: do hamstring stretches help with glutes engagement?
Thank you Bob And Brad for your informative yet cool videos!! 🙌🙌
Very nice instruction. At 10:30--Monty Python John Cleese's MInistry of Silly Walks skit!
Thank you for these hamstring streches.!Just what I needed. Big fan of you guys. You are helping people 🙂
Love the videos guys.
Thanks for the info, I'll be sure to used bands now with my routine
Not only funny, but also very educational and entertaining ! Thanks guys :)
They caused my knee pain! Thanks!
Their information has held to make a huge difference in my back and knees. I like this one too because after my arthroscopic surgery my hamstring was very tight. Using these tutorials has decreased my use of Nsaids and improved my flexibility. Thank you😊
I use the suspension straps campers use for their hammocks to stretch my legs.
You are always so wonderful and happy and funny! Thank you. Also, the hamstrings are always tight because we are mostly standing on our feet. Do we need to overstretch them? Isn’t it what you do?
Your videos are helping me a lot for my exam. Thanks.
what do you mean people dont like you, I'm 23 and this is one of my favourite channels lololol
Found out today I have cavus arches, and the doc said I need to stretch my posterior leg muscles, so I'm gonna be doing this one
3:33 what is really is difference with that hamstring stretch? This is the classic?! So mine are locked up from weightlifting 🏋️♀️ and sitting a lot more during shutdown!
You guys are awesome. I am on desk job and ride bike in traffic for 2 hours each day. I developed many issues in my spine. I couldn't sleep and doubted myself for having heart issues. But simple stretches prescribed by you made my spine perfect. I sleep peacefully now. Thanks a lot for every video.
