Ticking stops by just adding .5 to 1 liter more than what the car calls for if you completely drain the oil. Add what the car calls for, start it up, let it get to operating temp at idle and if it continues add the .5 to 1 liter. If you didn’t change the oil and want to try and fix ,just try adding the .5 to 1 liter and do the same. Should stop. Also May tick the day after you changed the oil because the oil drains down over night. If you put the amount the car calls for and it’s not ticking but ticks the next day. Again just add some more oil. If you don’t want it to tick right off the start, I’d say just add the extra oil before. Yes it may go away without adding oil by letting the car warm up and steadily reving at a low rpm to get oil where it needs to be
Mine sounds exactly the same when cold. Maintains the sound until almost fully up to operating temperature, then the engine is purring (I have repaired all 6 injectors for reference). It's driving me nuts to have such loud cold starts and I have been suspecting on hydraulic lifters but I am not sure. Did you find what's the issue? This is literally the only video where the engine sounds exactly the same as mine.

I changed all my lifters and rocker arms once at 300.000kms.Didn't change much the engine sounds on my case. If you have DPF delete like me and keep the original dpf cage,engine sounds ressonate a little bit more,because case is now empty!
I have the same problem. My car has only 60,000 km and I have changed it with a double mass flywheel, turbo, send the six injectors to check and finally remove the crankcase to check connecting rod bushings and everything is fine. Normally it sounds cold and when the oil is new. I think they are the tappets because if a long screwdriver is brought close to the cylinder head at the height of the third cylinder, it sounds there.
The m57 always have some ticking noise due to the injectors, which is totally normal. My 535d 2004 has same noises as all of yours, but it’s actually the vacuumpump. Many think it’s the injectors, cams, hydraulic lifters or so. Nothing can really be done to remove the sound. But you can run a thicker oil, like 10w-40 or something like that. It’s always gonna rattle, click or tap a bit when cold. The most of the sound will go away when the engine gets to OT. Long live diesel.
My mech also suggested using a thicker oil. I thought he was just being lazy but after replacing so many parts I'm starting to wonder if its just normal for the engine to tick. Like the duramax engines. Thicker oil just dampens the sound resonance.

100 % crankshaft pulley is faulty. Replace and you will see the difference. Mine I ignored until it has a catastrophic failure left me stranded. My e60 520d 2006 done 185000 miles.

Nope, my oil now is on 12000km same issue. I think that sound come from injector. I have two little bad injectors when is cold show about +1.5 / 2 next month will be replaced with another and will post here result.
Its power steering pump, try turn wheels to the end of one side and hold on max, pump will be knocking. I have injectors ok and camshaft dumper replace.
Wtf guys this noise is driving me nuts. So far I've changed all the pulleys and belts. Did an oil change and even used some injector cleaner. Noise diminished for a while but then comes back. Is this just a sound resonance thing? I know some duramax diesels have a natural tick to them and all the info about them says that it's a normal characteristic of the engine. I've even searched some duramax videos and it sounds exactly the same. Trust bmw not to tell us something like that. It would explain why a thicker oil seems to be the only thing that helps, the oil dampens the noise.

Its your hydraulic lifters draining of oil. Get your car up to temp and hold the revs at 4000 rpm for 3 minutes. This will refill your lifters with oil and the ticking should stop
@@denisvelev3494 Ok heres an update. Its DPF is overpressurised and one injector is giving too much fuel. Ive been told it should be .5 kpa pressure but its at 50 kpa so going to start with remove exhaust joint bolts to let it out and see if its running properly and if so then get a DPF for it.

Have same sound on cold on a N57D30 engine, when cold, when hot goes away. I also think is an injector even if injector values show all ok. Must test injectors on really cold engine, then I can say for sure.

И моята има подобно чукане на студено. Като загрее изчезва. Четох някъде да пробвам на един резервоар да сипя малко 2тактово масло, ако изчезне значи е дюза, но не съм стигал до там ако някой е пробвал да сподели

Just adding, ran car from downhill, rattle stopped, injectors are perfect, timing chain is stratched then.

Injectors changed with NEW Bosch , timing chain changed , crankshaft pulley changed , water pump changed ... sound still the same :(

При мен се чува от към хидрото като се вдигне колата се чува мн добре от долу(хидрото ми е рециклирано преди 1000 км) 🥴
