Great reference for the soil test
👍👍
excellent !! I live in the Northeastern United States, my land is basically on a rock with a few inches of soil on top like most places here are...granite rocks are in the soil, and the old boundary stone walls are still everywhere, tho many have collapsed...in the old days farmer would pick up these rocks and make the stone walls out of them...the rocks seem to multiply as you plow the land...the settlers had sheep or pig stys dug into the ground and walled with granite rocks, an early form of keeping livestock contained
Awesome! thank you! better get out there and do it now. Greetings from an Aussie building a wall in Germany
Thank you, my friend. Enjoy the walling and Germany.
Hi, I'm originally from Biddulph (N. Staffs.) and I recognised your kindred accent very quickly. Seems like you live in one of the most scenic localities in the county. Lucky you.
Hi, I most definitely live in one of the most beautiful places in the country. I was born and still live in Derbyshire, specifically in the Hope Valley area. However, I do spend a lot of time in Staffordshire as well. I have an office in Warslow and regularly work with the Staffordshire rights-of-way teams. It's also a beautiful area.
Nice watch
Thank you 😊

Hi FishanPuukko, I appreciate you watching, and I definitely plan to keep making videos 👍👍
What a skill!! Cheers for sharing
Thank you 😊
How many lineal meters a day do you aim to complete usually? Do stone masons have a general rule of thumb like an industry standard how much a day should be laid?
Thanks
Hi, I would like to build 4 meters a day of field walling. You can do more, but by Friday, you are definitely feeling it, especially your back. But if it was a garden wall, I would slow it right down and make sure the quality of the joints is of the highest standard and looking its best. I hope this helps.
@@TheStoneRanger 4 metres is alot, thats quite impressive :)
I'm surprised how shallow the foundation is. I assumed it would be a foot or 2 deep.
Hi Badgoy, thank you for watching. Some walls do need bigger foundations than others. This wall didn't need to go so deep; it was good ground.
Great video, I appreciate your craftsmanship. What batter do you build to? If you are building a 1 meter tall retaining wall, what would you do differently from this video?
Hi. It's hard to say what batter I would be looking for without seeing the project, but I like to work with around 1cm for each course of stone. The only thing I would really change, if it were retaining, and it's not a change but rather being more disciplined, would be building the length into the wall and grading my stone from larger, heavier stone at the base to smaller stone the higher I get up the wall. I hope this helps.
That does help, thanks for the reply and keep producing videos!
Didn't you dig the foundation?
