THE CLOCK HOUSE, STONE CLOCK, CARVING A STONE HOUSE SIGN,
Lovely work mate, can tell you take pride in it 👊🏼
Thank you! I definitely do like to take pride in all the work I do.
I would love this job have rebuilt dry stone walls that have collapsed and weathered away but wouldn’t land myself in the job unless I go to school and get myself some signatures🙃 shame so therapeutic
Know the feeling I'm good at it too made some up in Scotland just for funzies can't put that on a bit of paper though
Thank you both for watching! I am excited to announce that I will be running two free dry stone walling days in the Peak District this spring and summer. If you have time, you might like to attend. Look out for the announcement, as it will be on a first-come, first-served basis.

I live in New England, these field stone walls last hundreds of years!
Thank you for watching! It’s the same here in the UK-when built right, they can last a lifetime.
Nice skill and looks beautiful.
Thank you 🙏
Very nice 😉 aaand the sun don’t shine too epic tune 👊🏻 Good to see you Walling lad
Always lovely to fill some gaps back up in the walls, but not today-it’s -9°C. Sticking to the comforts of my office instead.
It’s crazy when you get out in the countryside and see all the dry stone walls up the highest off hills in the peek districts makes me wonder were all those stones came from to make all those walls
Thanks for watching. Having worked on many of the walls you’re talking about, it never fails to amaze me-the quality of the walls in such remote places, and, as you say, the sheer amount of stone. Much of the stone would have been quarried locally or even ploughed from the fields where the walls were built.
Blades on the wrong way 😂
As soon as I posted the video, I noticed I had made that mistake. However, what I would say is that after swapping the blade and cutting another piece of stone, it doesn’t cut any differently both ways around.
Good laaad
Thank you 🙏
make content that makes you want to press like button instead of expecting it just because.
Great advice 👍
Good luck buddy! I just subscribed and liked your vid. Hope you are not a kid didler...
Definitely not my friend, thank you for the sub 👍
Awesome
Thank you 👍
I live in the United States where there seems to be less tool availability for letter chiseling than in Europe. One thing that I haven’t seen here is the nylon hammer you have. I’ve seen a lot of people use it in videos though. Why do people use it? Is it more lightweight? Thanks for your time.
Hi, thank you for watching! I’m surprised there aren’t so many tools available in the US for you. The reason we use a nylon hammer is that it has a constant density, offering some softness when hitting the chisels. Being round, it ensures a consistent blow on the chisels with no chance of a deflecting strike, which could happen with a square-headed hammer.
I don't know anything about stone masonry, but on your e, there is a noticeable line at the joining point of the curve. Is that intended?
Hi, it could be one of two things. When carving, you can leave a collection of dust that works along the chisel and looks like lines, but once you clean it all up, they’re gone. However, I did spend another five minutes refining my carving off-camera while listening to my music. If it’s not that and it’s an actual line on the face of the stone, it’s likely a saw mark. I’ll polish it away after carving, as this is an off-cut that I will make good. Thank you for watching!
Happy New Year to you and yours. 10K is just the begining, keep up the good work.
Thank you! Wishing the same for you and your family. I appreciate your continued support for the channel.
I could watch these videos all day. thanks for using relaxing music along with the time lapse.
Thank you for watching 👀
Great video! I'm wanting to do one for my house with a boulder. First I need to finish my kitchen backsplash project, but this is a solid next for me! Thank you, from Dallas, Texas!
Hi Henna, thank you for watching! Good luck with the kitchen project. When you get time to work on your stone carving, I’d love to see some pictures. If you need any more help, please don’t hesitate to ask.
I have a couple of more questions, sir. What type of saw do you use or recommend? Also, how do you do the crosshathes at the right depth to give it the concave shape? Just practice, I guess?
Exactly what I was looking for. Excellent! Thank You!
You’re welcome, and thank you for watching!
How would these chisels perform on granite? Strictly tools for soft stone?
I haven’t honestly tried them on a hard stone like granite. The hardest I’ve used is York stone, and they performed very well.
How thick was your slab? Thank you.
This bowl is 75mm, but I have made them in sizes ranging from 75mm all the way up to 200mm.
I live in an area of Tennessee with PLENTY of sandstone just laying around. You can also buy cut slabs. We have a lot of limestone as well. Your video is VERY informative and easy to follow. I feel that with the video, the right tools and plenty of time and patience, I can do this. With all the free sandstone, I can make mistakes that won't cost me. I want to make birdbaths for my friends.
Quite fortuitous that you reside at #15 instead of #8888!
Haha, you’re not wrong!
Great stove ❤❤❤❤ Clearview the best ❤❤❤❤❤❤
It’s definitely a cracking stove!
I loved my Fiskars axe, but once that part of the handle that holds the head broke I’ve basically got a doorstop.
That’s unfortunate. Was it within two years? They do offer a warranty.
I'd never have the patience for stone carving. I would have filled it with JB Weld and shaped it.
😂😂😂😂
You gonna start chopping wood now hell yeah put in that work
No, not really. I just have a new axe and want to give it a go, and will do a review on it. Hoping to be back up and running with stone carving for some live sessions before the New Year.
@TheStoneRanger nothing wrong with that bro good splitting axe it looked like
I'd give UV lamp a go but to be honest i've not got a clue lol. Happy Christmas buddy and all the best for the New Year. Glad the house move went well for ya
I dug out a UV torch last night; I will give it a try today-fingers crossed! 🤞 You have a good Christmas and New Year. Hopefully, we’ll get on a live together soon.
Sounds good to me, or if there’s a silicone or rubber stopper maybe inject it with a syringe from the chemist with a little diluted bleach and boiled water????
UV light should do it,
Really? I hadn’t thought of that.
Years ago wed make these out of jars.Using water and a few drops of glycerine...The old type had a plug and were easy to change ,with a tea strainer..Ive a globe similar and was able to remove the base and get to the globe ..The glycerine helps the snow fall slow
Thank you, that sounds really promising. I will definitely have a look for a plug. Merry Christmas!

@@TheStoneRanger Merry Christmas 🙂🎄
I am really sorry but I don’t know how but I hope u find out and merry Christmas
Thank you anyway, and you have a wonderful Christmas 🎄.
I'd say prep for the show taking what you want from that fine toolbox, put em on magnets for the live. It could be part of your show and why you're selecting the tools you do for the project. Thats my idea lets see what others say mate
Definitely going to clean up the box, and like you say, it can be part of the show. It will be a good place to keep the bits I don’t use every day, like my compasses, marking-out gear, etc.
Things I wish I had in my garage studio: A dog safety officer, a lil sitting area, space heater and dust bubbler. An extension to house air compressor and noise canceler.
All great suggestions! I added a compressor today and am considering a log burner.
What about dust extraction? Silica etc as you well know mate
That’s a great suggestion! I will definitely look into that.
Thank you for this video, I’m just starting drystone walling on my farm. What stone tools would you recommend?
Hi, thanks for watching! For dry stone walling, I would keep it simple: a good walling hammer around 2 lb, a brick hammer for dressing smaller pieces, possibly a bolster in case you need to dress larger pieces of stone, and a good set of string lines. That should get you going!
Thanks very much for the info. Really appreciate the content 👍
collectingsnapon.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=229
This might help you date them mate, I didn't research to much though
Thanks buddy! I hope you’re doing well. Looking forward to getting back to doing some live content soon.
The drawers are called a plan chest, used for architect's drawings.
Thank you, that is great information to know. I got them from my old primary school, where they used to keep large sheets of paper and card.
Fantastic video. I just have a couple questions if that's OK? I am going to start my stone carving journey soon. I work with stone a lot as a local bricklayer, stonemason. And have got my hands on a lovely York slab that was used as a doorstep. I have the chisels and mallets coming at Christmas to start my journey. I would like to create a house sign with the work slab as its a bit thinner in width than that. But can you let me know where I could find a chisel sharpening pad like yours and how to best go about the sharpening I notice you regularly give yours a sharpen throughout, anyway great video great work 👍
Firstly, thank you for commenting, and sorry it’s taken a while to get back to you-I’ve been moving house. You are making a great choice with York stone; it’s lovely to carve and holds a very nice sharp edge. When it comes to sharpening, I’ve tried all kinds of diamond sharpening blocks. Yes, there is a difference between the £20 ones and the £120 ones, but not enough to justify the price. I would recommend just going on eBay and buying a cheap diamond sharpening stone with different grades-that will work perfectly for you.

Superb thanks for getting back to me and keep up the great work.@TheStoneRanger
It's difficult to find replacements for bird baths past... I was hoping to be able to try with tools I have. Thank you for a curated method with experienced hands and mind
👍👍👍
Thank you. For sharing. I try doing everything myself but having experienced advice helps tons!
You’re welcome. Thank you for watching.
I’m very interested in this bricky thing you all do over across the way ✌️
Thank you for watching 👍
You’ll defo reach that 10k subs by Christmas by the looks of it, will you be on live any time soon? My chisels have finally arrived !
I hope so! I haven’t been able to create any content for weeks now because of moving house, which was delayed at the last minute. But I’m hoping to be back up and running within the next couple of weeks for some live sessions.
Just subscribed. Greetings from Kansas, USA
Greetings and welcome!

Yeah that's fucked mate
Yes it definitely is 😔
Hi Fantastic content What type of spray sealant do you use?
Hi, Thank you for watching! I’ve used all different types over the years, and they’re all very similar. At the moment, I’m using Tetroin.
Lol iy yi yi 😮
😔😔😔
Lovely
Thank you
That’s neat. I never would’ve guessed to use the edge of the flat face for chipping like that.
Thank you for watching 👍
leave the screwdriver embedded in the stone and use it as a sun dial
