@@adamwalkervfx No he didn't :/ Cartmell's ideas were finalized in the book Lungbarrow, and it's nothing like what Timeless Child twist ended up being (for instance, that revealed Time Lords were created in a cave rather than born, Doctor was implied to be a third major figure in Gallifreyan mythology alongside Rassilon and Omega) Timeless Children completely puts the wait of time lord creation on Doctor's shoulders, having their own regeneration cycle implanted into the original people of Gallifrey Cartmell has commented on Timeless Children. He hates the twist (believing Chibnall revealed too much compared to what he was doing) but in no way did he say he was ripped off.
As someone who doesn't care at all about Dr. Who I must say I think it's interesting that such a popular show has so many lost episodes but it makes sense back then people didn't see the need to preserve media for future generations and it makes sense that popular long running franchises like Dr. Who would have lose media.
Jon Pertwee is likely the most interesting doctor, as he was transferred last second off of the battlecruiser HMS Hood when she and HMS Prince of Wales were given the orders to intercept the German battleship Bismarck and heavy cruiser Prinz Eugen. If he had not been scheduled to begin officer’s training, we could have seen Ordinary Seaman Jon Pertwee be just another name on a list of over 1,418 men who lost their lives at sea when HMS Hood exploded after being hit by a 15 inch shell which detonated the 4 inch magazine.
Highly recommended! If you can find the "NuWho" starting from the reboot in 2005 with Christopher Eccleston give it a watch its amazing, also look for the Fourth Doctors Tom Baker's series they are truly a slight to behold! 👽👌
Same. I've never been interested in watching the series but I've always appreciated its fans passion for it. But I love lost media quests like this, so this video is a neat peak into another fandom.
Both The Final Game and The Cartmel Masterplan sort of made their way into the modern series of Doctor Who. The Peter Capaldi (12th Doctor) era saw the introduction of Missy, the Master's female incarnation (played by Michelle Gomez), who was initially still up to her evil tricks. But unlike past incarnations, her actions weren't purely out of spite for the Doctor, rather she wanted to go back to being friends with him. This was further explored in Series 10 where Missy asks for a chance of redemption, to which the Doctor agrees to oversee. This came to a head in the Series 10 finale where she encounters a previous incarnation of hers (John Simm's Master) and she has to decide whether or not to stand with the Doctor in his final (for 12) hour or return to her evil ways. Though reluctant, she decides to stand with the Doctor at the last minute as she and the Master are some distance away from the Doctor and co., resulting in her stabbing the Master in hopes he'll regenerate into her. The Master, however, refuses to ever stand with the Doctor and kills Missy in such a way that she cannot regenerate. Her redemption was seen by no one aside from her own past life (who would forget it all happening anyway due to the effects of meeting your future self) and she died for nothing. An ironic yet fitting end to a character like The Master... who comes back 2 seasons later played by Sacha Dhawan so it don't matter. Speaking of, this ties into The Timeless Child arc which, like the Cartmel Masterplan, revealed that the Doctor (now played by Jodie Whittaker) had previous lives before her first. Though as opposed to being a reincarnation of "The Other" specifically, but a continuation of a being known as The Timeless Child who fell through a portal from a mysterious world and was the first being on Gallifrey with the ability to regenerate, so her adoptive mother Tecteun preformed experiments on her to try and harness her regenerative abilities and shared this power with the Shobogans, creating the Time Lords. The Timeless Child had their memory wiped and was regressed to an infant (the 1st Doctor), but there were apparently Doctors who preceeded even the first, as seen with the Fugitive Doctor (played by Jo Martin) in Fugitive of the Judoon. Needless to say, this has been one of the most controversial revelation in Doctor Who since the 8th Doctor (Paul McGann) revealed he was half-human in the 1996 Doctor Who Movie.
The Timeless Child retconed everything about Doctor Who lore to the point where they may as well have just rebooted the series so they could start a fresh new timeline and make a whole new universe of stories to explore.
Episode 7 of the Dalek masterplan will never be recovered as it was never tele-recorded for distribution. We need to give thanks to John Cura, who's telesnaps allow us to recreate missing episodes from the scenes.
I'm from the city where UCLAN is based and know people who were involved in the project of recreating the episode. It was a fan project that eventually got permission from the BBC and then was uploaded, not a BBC planned thing. Either way, love the content.
You missed an episode with the tenth doctor (David tennet) this episode was to have the doctor ending up in a haunted house and teaming up with the cast of most haunted (a group of people that go in search of ghosts and other paranormal activity around the uk) with the most haunted cast proving to the doctor that ghosts do exist. It would have aird live on tv but what we got instead was the episode midnight
As a person who stands against watching doctor who. I for some reason watched some of this video then said "this isn't for me, but I hope those who watch the show enjoy this" ...why? Because I don't wanna give my time to that show, and I won't shit on something someone else loves just because I don't wanna give it a chance. That would be shitty of me.
This is quite the departure from your usual content. I do encourage anyone who wants to go more in depth on this subject to check out Josh Snares series on the missing episodes.
I knew before watching this that Big Finish care much more about Doctor Who than Moffat or Chibnall, but now I'm amazed at how much more dedication they show. I used to be a superfan. Its tragic what has become of the series.
Two teenagers independently recorded all the audio of all the shows. Both went on to become professional audio engineers. Thus the sound is very high quality.
Chris Chibnall single handedly ruined this show. Season 12 was an absolute disgrace to the the 50+ year history of Doctor Who. The BBC should be ashamed.
Pfft, as if. Moffat's the one that messed it all up. Turned it from a fun serial to a stupid overarching storyline- zapped all the fun out of DW. I haven't watched since the 11th Dr, so I don't know how CC does it, but if you're looking for where the downfall began, it's defo with Moffat. Shame too, cuz Matt Smith was an excellent doctor.
@@hobihope2981 it began with Moffatt, yes, but a convoluted and mediocre couple of years, dotted with a few highlights, could have stayed just that. Instead we got a slight decline into the Chibnall era which then plummeted to rock bottom, destroying all past and future stories by completely rewriting the Doctor's origin in a spiteful, hateful way. I stopped enjoying the show halfway through Capaldi, but I know even people who enjoyed Chibnall's first season who were furious with what he did the next.
@@hobihope2981 Dude Peter Capaldi's take on the Doctor redeemed Moffat …. but Chibnall on the other hand has pissed off every doctor who fan of both classic and new
You all are not wrong to hate what Chibnall has done to a TV show that for many (including myself) made our childhoods, the kindest thing the BBC can do now is cancel Doctor Who and continue putting out big finish audio stories, as at least they do more good then bad.
Yeah, the reason most episodes survive is because they were sold abroad. Each episode was recorded on videotape then copied to film to sell abroad. As far as I can tell, Feast was never copied because of its festive nature and the original tape was wiped shortly after to be reused.
there is one episode that is lost for certain: The Daleks Masterplan part 7: The Feast of Steven, as that one was never copied onto tape, and the mastertape was viped. One thing I find interesting, is the change in opinion on lost episodes, (the audio of every episode is still existent), if they are recovered, sometimes is negative (the tomb of the Cybermen), sometimes positive (the Enemy of the World)
I'm pretty sure I own that DVD with Attack of the Graske on it lol, I think i've played it like 20 times, but not for many years. Strange memories of a Whovian huh.
The only episode definitely lost is Dalek Master Plan episode 7 as the tape was wiped, no film recording was made of it and it was never sold overseas. of the 90+ other missing episodes there is good evidence that 6 still survive in private collections: one episode each of The Savages and Wheel In Space, The Crusades episode 2, Web of Fear episode 3 and at least 2 episodes of Marco Polo.

I don't think it was that bad. Cartmel was a competent writer and he might have been able to pull it off (although I doubt it) Chibnal is a talentless hack
@@Laurabeck329 Still both take away what made the Doctor so iconic and relatable. A normal person doing good making them special instead of being pre-destined to do so.
@@dragon_ninja_2186 Oh I agree. Doctor has to be just an average time lord who chose to break away from his race and start actually helping the universe and that's hpw he became the Doctor. If he was special from the start that kind of ruines everything, but it could have been handled better is what I'm saying
Chibnall straight up stole Cartmel's ideas.
@@adamwalkervfx No he didn't :/
Cartmell's ideas were finalized in the book Lungbarrow, and it's nothing like what Timeless Child twist ended up being (for instance, that revealed Time Lords were created in a cave rather than born, Doctor was implied to be a third major figure in Gallifreyan mythology alongside Rassilon and Omega)
Timeless Children completely puts the wait of time lord creation on Doctor's shoulders, having their own regeneration cycle implanted into the original people of Gallifrey
Cartmell has commented on Timeless Children. He hates the twist (believing Chibnall revealed too much compared to what he was doing) but in no way did he say he was ripped off.
You miss the biggest lost episode that took forever to come out. Film Theory Doctor Who Part 3
Well researched, it's not tapes that are missing but 16mm film. All episodes were transferred onto film as tape was so expensive in the 60's.
probably the only thing to do now is to find the scripts and reanact the episodes
This is hilarious to watch having known everything he's going to say
Worth mentioning they used some of the Shada footage in the five doctors episode.
As someone who doesn't care at all about Dr. Who I must say I think it's interesting that such a popular show has so many lost episodes but it makes sense back then people didn't see the need to preserve media for future generations and it makes sense that popular long running franchises like Dr. Who would have lose media.
good job, dude. love your videos in general, but would love to see more in the vein of this one.
The BBC - "Both the B's stand for Braindead" ™
Jon Pertwee is likely the most interesting doctor, as he was transferred last second off of the battlecruiser HMS Hood when she and HMS Prince of Wales were given the orders to intercept the German battleship Bismarck and heavy cruiser Prinz Eugen. If he had not been scheduled to begin officer’s training, we could have seen Ordinary Seaman Jon Pertwee be just another name on a list of over 1,418 men who lost their lives at sea when HMS Hood exploded after being hit by a 15 inch shell which detonated the 4 inch magazine.
Interesting I didn't know that at all
My favourite web series doing a video on my favourite TV show was definitely a nice thing to wake up to
I don't even watch Doctor Who but this is neat
same
Highly recommended! If you can find the "NuWho" starting from the reboot in 2005 with Christopher Eccleston give it a watch its amazing, also look for the Fourth Doctors Tom Baker's series they are truly a slight to behold! 👽👌
@@ceasefireinc.9040 idk I might consider watching it
Same. I've never been interested in watching the series but I've always appreciated its fans passion for it. But I love lost media quests like this, so this video is a neat peak into another fandom.
@@LedosKell watch season 1, 3 and 4 of new Doctor who they're the best imo
Great to see you Mars. Love your stuff
BRO WHAT IS IT WITH DOCTOR WHO CONTENT APPEARING ALL OF A SUDDEN, LET'S GOOOOO
It’s odd watching a video where you already know everything
Someone better rip that disk with Attack of the Graske so we can preserve it!!
I loved that as a kid
@@AaronBallvideos I watched it and it looks pretty fun!
@Finn [Redacted] Go for it!
i've had a look at my box set (same one as shown in the video) but can't find any mention of attack of the graske at all D:
@@lucas_i_think That’s odd. Could it be a re-release with Graske taken out?
6:00 more like destroyed Archer episodes
Episode 7 of the Dalek masterplan will never be recovered as it was never tele-recorded for distribution. We need to give thanks to John Cura, who's telesnaps allow us to recreate missing episodes from the scenes.
I am surprised you didn't the mention the episode that featured Jimmy Savile.
That's not an official episode, it was a special from his show. I'm glad it's missing.
It's not missing, anybody who has an older copy of The Two Doctors on DVD can watch it in the special features.
@@PieEater163 Oops, ur right, I forgot!!!
I'm from the city where UCLAN is based and know people who were involved in the project of recreating the episode. It was a fan project that eventually got permission from the BBC and then was uploaded, not a BBC planned thing. Either way, love the content.
So terrible that they were so careless back then.
I really appreciate all the work the bbc to restore the lost media around the seiries. Its cool.
Wow I am surprised you featured this .. thanks.
Hah, bout time you did this.
The doctor and the master being siblings would've made their romance real awkward
10:05 unexpectedly? You’re supposed to expect car accidents?
Just started watching your vids again, I am very glad you are consistant with your content, keep it up :)
As a person who stands against watching doctor who. I for some reason watched some of this video then said "this isn't for me, but I hope those who watch the show enjoy this" ...why? Because I don't wanna give my time to that show, and I won't shit on something someone else loves just because I don't wanna give it a chance. That would be shitty of me.
lol
I wouldn't be surprised if the lost episodes somehow ended up in Japan because they love archiving old foreign TV shows.
This is quite the departure from your usual content. I do encourage anyone who wants to go more in depth on this subject to check out Josh Snares series on the missing episodes.
I didn't know there was missing episodes
A fan of the classic series?
Crazy how such a popular show has so much lost media. Bet the BBC are kicking themselves for throwing out so many classic episodes.
The reason the daleks were changed was because the BBC don’t own the design of the daleks
13 killed everything.
I knew before watching this that Big Finish care much more about Doctor Who than Moffat or Chibnall, but now I'm amazed at how much more dedication they show.
I used to be a superfan. Its tragic what has become of the series.
I don't know "WHO" made the show, but it's still cool!
get it?
I wasn't expecting this, but you love to see it.
Two teenagers independently recorded all the audio of all the shows. Both went on to become professional audio engineers. Thus the sound is very high quality.
Amazing as usual
Chris Chibnall single handedly ruined this show. Season 12 was an absolute disgrace to the the 50+ year history of Doctor Who. The BBC should be ashamed.
yeah. they really fucked up the whole legacy. Hopefully they retcon it all like Chibnall did with a lot of the previous lore.
So sad the most distributed doctor who episode from the sixties(Marco Polo) is one of the most lost stories.
I heard that there was a one time Christmas episode that might be gone forever because BBC confirmed that no real tape was made
daleks master plan, the feast of steven ep7, yes
Yeah, the reason most episodes survive is because they were sold abroad. Each episode was recorded on videotape then copied to film to sell abroad. As far as I can tell, Feast was never copied because of its festive nature and the original tape was wiped shortly after to be reused.
Just imagine someone has every doctor who episodes lost and found and once a year they watch all episodes nonstop
there is one episode that is lost for certain: The Daleks Masterplan part 7: The Feast of Steven, as that one was never copied onto tape, and the mastertape was viped.
Can we trade all of the Jodie Whittaker episodes for these ones?
Not all
Like Spyfall was pretty good
