    Step by step float construction. Simple, inexpensive, durable & effective. I regret throwing out an old float because the bottom runner was broken. I could have repaired it so easily. Manufactured floats are OK but a handmade float will provide everything you want from a float without compromise. Excellent. Thanks for sharing. I'm looking forward to more of your fishing videos.

    Hey how's it going mate! I really like your attitude towards fishing as well as the videos you make, like this one 😃 Here's how I make my floats. I buy the 1/2 inch (or larger) balsa dowel from Bunnings (as they are already round) and I cut them to size and stick the pointy end of a bamboo skewer in the center of each end of the dowel and glue them in, then cut each skewer to size. I then make a taper on both ends of the dowel much like you have done with the square balsa. For runners, I just cut the clips of some small brass safety pins making a bend at the cut off ends, and leaving some straight. I then bind and glue a bent one on the end of the bottom skewers and I just push a straight one into the top of the float body and apply a small amount of glue. Hope you or someone else will find this helpful, cheers 😊

    Thanks again for another great video. For cutting wood dowel, a MITRE box and tenon saw, sold as a pair, could be handy, probably pick up a cheapy at a garage sale, Aldi have them from time to time. Bunnings do have a hacksaw blade holder for a few buxx. Don't know if they're the right size, but camping shops have replacement fibreglass rods for small hiking tents. Cheers

    Good thing about rolling your own is you can fine tune them for specific locations , i used to fish Narrabeen lake when i was a kid and many of the guys out there used to glue a golf tee on the top of the float to make it easier to see.
    Thanks for the video Sticky !

    • @stickyfishyfishing
      @stickyfishyfishing  4 года назад

      Yeah mate I like to make my own for that reason it's hard to find a float to buy like I like to use and it's a bit of fun making floats especially when you catch fish with something you made yourself
      The golf tee trick I've never heard of before but I like it hahaha thanks cheers 👍

    Good video. Nice tip about the paper towel, you don't want the hook end on the ground and ending up in the mower or the feet. Was there much paint in the eyes or don't you worry about it. I guess you could put a bit of tape over them if it bothers you too much. They look good in the black. Would you put any weight at the bottom, or you happier with the rig holding it down? Starting to get luderick downhere on the central coast. Keep it up!

    • @stickyfishyfishing
      @stickyfishyfishing  4 года назад +1

      Thanks mate yeah the eyes only end up with a light coat of paint it stops them from rusting as quick and if the paint blocks the hole just poke it out with a hook or pin I don't put weight on the float it's self I find it better to have it on the rig especially when rock fishing so it gets you bait down to where you need it mate thanks cheers 👍

      I made a wooden lathe and turned another design of blackfish float (the body takes the whole length, like a long pencil) and used Dy-Mark fluoro red and Rust-oleum primer and clear coat but that’s a bit dear. Will try this out later.
