Haha, they can be tough some days. I can attest to that. Some nice Ludes there, well done. It is good fun eh? Um, could you please trim the annoying tag end of that green electrical tape that I put on (my rod at that stage) about 10yrs ago 😁
I got a foldaway cutting board and a folding filet knife from Toadfish. Very good quality folds away in a nice tote all together great for taking when I travel.
My Dad and uncle were both keen Luderick/blackfisher man, they both grew up in Yamba and may have even fished from the same spot, I remember going black fishing with dad from under the Oyster Channel bridge many times growing up! One of the best eating fish out in my opinion… was great watching you have a great time fishing 🎣
Hello Sammy. that looks like where i fish for them. theres a great ledge and gutter opposite you there back towards the wall. bummer i wasnt there that day to say cheers and beers .
Many years ago a group of new australians where fishing for luderick at the sewer outlet and were using corn cornells for bait and were cleaning up on them yasickcnts
i really enjoy targeting those luderick (we call them parore here in nz) such great fun on light tackle from the wharf. i never really tried using floats but found light running rig to be ideal with shellfish for bait although i had caught them using weed before which was pretty unbelievable.
I had no idea Bream eat weed. It's weird because Bream were one of the first fish I targeted as a 6 year old kid back in the late 1960s, fishing with my dad on a river near our house. You never stop learning
Not sure if it's the actual weed they're tryin' to eat or the little creatures livin' on it. There's a technique catchin' barbel with algie but they're straight on crustacean eaters, but they slurp in algie and filter out all the tiny crustaceans and insect larvae
They love a bit of greenery. Nearly always get one or two when the Luderick are firing. My Pop used to eat Bream and lots of them had some sort of weed in the guts.
I've caught plenty of Bream when chasing Luderick, mainly in estuaries. What do find to be better bait is aquirt worms at night chasing Luderick on a paternoster rig.
It's a great rod off the stones, a little light when the drummer come along but really good fun absorbing the powerful luderick lunges without pulling the hook.
Always present from Maluku Indonesia very beautiful scenery. edge fishing but it's amazing how you pull the fish until it bends. then made vilet fish I really like
Hey mate. Can see u tripped with a few schooners in ur time u held it quite well. Good verity in ur fishing too. Keep up the good work Sammy I hang for the Sunday Sammy sesh
It's always common to catch Bream as bi-catch Weed and cabbage weed always produce Luderick but I find in the winter times, Luderick change their feeding habits considering they're omnivores.
Not gonna lie, hilarious to see someone from Oz using a center pin rig! That normal down there? Should get you up here to the US Pacific Northwest or British Columbia to catch some salmon/steelhead on that setup! Coho are a blast on a center pin!
went for a walk along the rocks this morning and saw little bubbles rising to the surface. told the misses that it was bream filled with Sammy's cabbage
I've caught probably 1000 black fish from boat , fishing weed beds up river, rocks, break walls even fishing islands around coffs out of boat and never caught a bream but have caught probably a dozen decent keeper flatties but they were all on weed not cabbage
Would love to see a good bream session and a catch and cook on them. Maybe whole done in an Asian style. Chef Julian might be able to help in that area
Thanks for the upload Sammy, about time you travelled the country and did some fishing around this place. When are you coming to W.A.? Keep up the good work mate.
sammy where abouts do you fish your rock platforms? would love to find some near me around the goldie but don't know where to look, any advice/spots would be great bro 👍👍
The apprenticeship is slow Sammy. I learned more by putting my rod away and just watched the old blocks fish. Because at Ballina they won’t tell you a thing. Even thinking why they use the size floats, what death and how they set up the rigs. It got a lot lot easier after that.
good vid i just kick some weed off the rocks when fishing if its there saves the hassle of mixing etc when a set comes just rub some off the rocks dont go overboard ,, not sure about filleting on the rocks if dpi come along nsw

Great video. Thanks for the land based content. Much appreciated
I’ve been fishing for blackfish since I was 10 with my dad. I’m still doing it & im nearly 70 & have never caught a bream on cabbage. Go figure.
So good to see the sun shining. Enjoy Sammy

How good is that! It’s got history the old blackfish 👌👌
Great video and it's definitely one of my favourite fish species to catch. Luderick are always fun to target whether up in estuaries or off the rocks.

really amazing fishing with beautiful sea spots👍
Love that you use weeds to catch these little tanks! The bait possibilities for different species are endless
Cool hey! 🙌🙌
lol reminds me of using coconut burley with cotton wool or flower petals to catch fish.
We used to catch Rock Blackfish (aka Drummer) on the rock platforms on the NSW south coast. Used cunje or ab gut & HEAVY tackle.
Yeah they are next on the list for sure! Sound like great fun 👌
Even from far north QLD as soon as i saw the bait i said Luderick , great eating fish .....Underrated by alot of people

This brings back memories. I remember old blokes doing this when i was a kid off the south port seaway.
