I’ve been doing hair for 12 years and this is the best formulation explanation I have ever heard. Lightening with color has always terrified me…I feel much more confident right now!!! Plus the analogies are on point!!! 😂
You are litterally amazing... Ive learnt more in watching a few videos than my years of hairdressing school... Our qualifications litterally mean nothing!!! Youve made me understand so much in my career that ive been lost in and unconfident in for years... THANKYOU 🙏
The Hairschool I attended was the same they didn't teach me diddly squat! Now I am finding myself trying to learn everything on my own now from hair coloring to cutting. I paid them literally just for a certificate I suppose.
Don't give up the school's intention is to provide the information you need to pass the state board licensing exam. It is important to find a strong mentor for your first job and learn in real world situations. I offer online education for all things color and am here if you need me www.expertcolorsolutions.com
I graduated cosmetology in May and I agree we didn’t learn much on color either, we mainly did the same stuff all of the time and I only learn of color in my 4th semester
I’m watching this 4 yrs later but this reminds me of how Redken trained us to formulate color plus we considered underlining pigment when adding or subtracting warmth. They taught us to always use 20 vol & use the color to lift. I have to say though that European colors seems to lift less warm. But I think I’ll play with this. I usually do every root touch with 20 or 10 developer & add ash to counter warmth if needed.
Your amazing, I thank God I found you, I’m so grateful,? I’m an amazing hairstylist, but coloring is something I haven’t been knowledgeable, if I get this I’m a high roller!!!!
Thank YOU SO SO MUCH , I attend Paul Mitchell the school of Houston and it’s sad that I got so much information and LEARNED so much from this 1 video . My current salon has presented the opportunity to pursue color so I decided to do it. You are making a lot of sense to me so I’m going to watch all your vids and I ordered your book. People want lots of services when it comes to colors and bleaches and want to pay so so cheap when us hairdressers can not and should not be given anything for cheap or add ons for free 🤔i used to suffer so much with this til i posted my prices depending on the lenght of the hair and each client pays different prices ..i find this to be fair
This is so awesome. I get what you said about achieving a level 7 from a natural level 5. Elaine how would I approach formulating for someone who wants depth instead of lightening? For example, natural level 5 to 6 and desired level 3vr.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge. Did you use warm tones with the level 7 on the swatches? For the example you shared you would use level 9 for the warm tone and the color the client selected for gray coverage? Hope that makes sense.
First time catching your video, very helpful, thank you! I'd be interested in your book. Additionally, my conflict comes in when I have someone who has 3 inches of gray, with various shades of level 6 on remaining hair, How would or would you need to fill the gray and in using your formula to achieve target shade say of a 6 how what number would you take from your 6x2=12, 12 - ..... what to achieve desired result?
