      +AdventureSportFlashlights thanks for sharing! check out Kingsolar batteries too. I use them in 2 of my high output lights and 2 nights in a row I used them a lot, and the light output hasn't dropped down from high yet. not even a flicker..for my lights putting out around 4k lumens, and cycling through the modes goofing off, I'm impressed how well they're holding up. I got 6 of them for about $53 shipped.

  • @bigaarmory100
    @bigaarmory100 7 лет назад +2

    Dollars for lumens I don't think you'll find a better value than the Convoy L6. I was extremely impressed by the beam output in turbo and other modes. The flashlight worked flawlessly until the first time the batteries (Keeppower IMR 26650 5200mAh with only three charges on them) were removed for charging. After reinstalling the batteries the light will not turn on. I also tried the flashlight with other 26650 batteries and even 18650 batteries with no luck. What I have now after eight months is a very short and very expensive club to swing at people in the dark rather than a flashlight to see them with.

  • @JasonWW2000

    Hey Matt, I got a battery question for you. It's been said that fitting a pair of protected batteries in the L6 is a real squeeze and in some cases tightening the cap actually dented in the electronic circuit of the battery and damaged it. Now I'm assuming Simon designed this light to run both protected and unprotected batteries which is a large size difference to deal with hence protected batteries over 70mm don't fit. Would it be possible to add a small shim, a few mm in thickness, between the battery tube and head while still making sure the o-ring stays sealed? I could easily fabricate such a shim from aluminum or stainless steel, but I don't know how far the o-ring is from the lip of the head.

    • @Lumencraft-
      @Lumencraft-  8 лет назад

      Yes, that would work. I've not really had any trouble with smashing the cells myself, the springs are pretty soft. However I considered the same thing at one point. There is about 1-2mm you could gain by doing that before the O ring came far enough out to be seen.

    • @JasonWW2000
      @JasonWW2000 8 лет назад

      +AdventureSportFlashlights I had another idea to gain some extra battery room for protected cells. Why not get rid of one of the two springs and replace it with a thin piece of copper soldered in place? I figure the wire used to bypass the spring might be adding a few mm to the springs compressed height.

    • @Lumencraft-
      @Lumencraft-  8 лет назад

      Yes, that would help some. If the spring on the driver was replaced with a copper button you would gain around 1mm I think. The piece of wire used for the by pass does not compress all the way down to where the cells would hit the driver components.

I wish I had it like that so I can add some crazy lights too my collection. I do have an expensive wishlist.. oh yeah I bought the new convoy c8 with the new firmware upgrade I love the throw for how small it is. But of course im a flashaholic so im never going to be satisfied with the lights i have im always going to want more

    Today I got my Convoy L6 4300 CW today and I love it!! I love the simple Low, Med, High, Turbo modes. It's Simple!! Extremely well built. Very satisfied!!
    I also received my Lumintop GT MINI and my ThruNite Catapult V6. I am ready to throw the GT Mini out in the yard and empty a clip in it!! I can't figure out these lighting modes. Half the time when I pick it up and click once there's nothing, the chip is dark, not even moon mode. I switched cells, same thing.
    Why is the default, that stupid Ramping Mode?!! Ramping mode = Most irritating, Time consuming, useless mode ever!! I'll figure it out sooner or later.
    Why do we need to jump through hoops just to operate some these flashlights? LOL!! Now I don't even want to try out my Catapult. I might RAGE and kick the neighbors cat!!! xD

    Great video Matt! Thank you. I am ready to buy. A few quick question, if I could please.
    Your site states '1A and 3A'. What is that about?
    If I select 'boost driver current'. How much boost are we getting? When you tested this flashlight here, and got the approx. 3500 lm. It had not been boosted, correct? If we do have it boosted, what can we expect for output?
    Is the SMO reflector option available yet? I didn't see it on your site.
    Finally. Do you have these stock units on hand, and can ship them out pretty quickly? If for example we chose no mods, what is ship time to the middle of the U.S.A.?
    Thanks again!

    • @Lumencraft-
      @Lumencraft-  7 лет назад +1

      Hi Steve. 1A and 3A are color tints. The 1A is a cool white a bout 6500k, and the 3A is neutral 5000k temp.
      I use a zero ohm resistor for the boost now, so you can expect about 1-1.5A boost in current. This will give you around 400 more lumens. Just be aware that the de-dome option does reduce output even though lux at one meter (throw) is significantly increased, so the boost and de-dome option will result in about the same over all lumen number.
      I just now added the reflector here.
      asflashlights.com/convoy-flashlights/104-convoy-l6-smo-reflector.html
      Right now I have them in stock. The only thing that is not sitting on my shelf at the moment is the 26650 batteries.

    • @SteveKluver
      @SteveKluver 7 лет назад

      Thank you. I'll stop over and get one ordered this week yet. I'll go with the 1A, and the boost. I'll keep the stock dome, and order the SMO Reflector. Having both reflectors will be nice, to be able to switch back and forth.
      Do you keep some CREE XHP70 boards there in stock usually? So if for example, I do later want to try a de-domed unit, I can just order that part alone from you, and get a fairly speedy ship time?
      I am good on batteries for now. I have a nice pile : - )
      Be sure to let us know though, when you do get stock back on-hand.

    • @Lumencraft-
      @Lumencraft-  7 лет назад

      Yes, I also have extra emitters, doing a swap later if you want to try it would be pretty simple. The batteries should be here Saturday, I ordered bunch this time :)

      Good, on having the extra parts.
      Which batteries did you end up ordering? Some KeepPower IMR 26650 battery 5200mAh 3.7V, with a maximum 30A discharge?

    Matt, since you have a light box, have you measured a few of these to see what the actual output is? I know Convoy isn't like other companies that greatly exaggerate their output, but I'm still curious. EDIT: My bad, you detailed this fact in the video.

    • @Lumencraft-

      So far I have only taken measurements on 1 of them. I got just under 3500 OTF lumens on it. When the new batch arrives I may check a few more just to see what I get.

    • @Lumencraft-
      @Lumencraft-  8 лет назад

      Yes the 75,5K is my measurement. I was taken at 5 meters and then calculated back to 1 meter. If you'd like to see my method its here.

    Update - have the Convoy L6 now and ELB 4 set of batts for $19.00, stated to be protected. Keeppower batts are on the way. Since this light has no low batt indicator I want to have a spare set with me. My take - it is 2018, this review is 2016. When I read about people with this flashlight and unprotected batteries I think folks are asking for it. The unit comes without instructions or specs, but The head on this light gets hot enough to scald and doesn't step down or have overheat protection at all when in turbo mode. Unprotected cheap batts with heavy start/on load are known to be at risk to malfunction. So,, no one in my family will use or store this light except me. IN storage - unscrew the tailcap enough to make sure it doesnt get pressed on - it is a real fire issue. Looking around more in 2018 (September) there is a light for $59.00 on AMAZON with a higher lumen rating, very nice glossy finish, safety heat step down, lockout AND (a must have now for me in a emergency management related job), an indicator light on the mode switch that tells you when the batt is low and needs charging. Having said that, this light throws an excellent pattern and reaches out there very well. I will keep it, but any buyer needs to know that safties for people that dont know flashlights can burn you at this level are not in this build. Buer be aware.

    • @Lumencraft-
      @Lumencraft-  6 лет назад

      Convoy is a China brand. A good one :) The cells I recommend are keeppower. You need to get the right ones though as some are too long and some are too fat. These will fit perfectly.

      does the de dome/ultra lux mod still make it a reliable light, how long does the batter last with those mods.

    • @Lumencraft-
      @Lumencraft-  8 лет назад

      Battery life on high from the factory is about an hour. With the
      boosted drive current on high its about 45 min. The impact on
      reliability is negligible as long is turn the power down when the head
      gets hot.

    Hey I need your help if you are available. I might get this flashlight from www.gearbest.com/led-flashlights/pp_359831.html and they have an option whether to pick a 5000k or 6000-6500k color temperature. Is there much of a difference in it? Would there be for any reason 1 being better than the other other than looks?

    • @Lumencraft-
      @Lumencraft-  8 лет назад

      Sure, I can help you with that. The 6500k will be brighter, but the 5000k has a warmer color of light. The 5000k is slightly more of a yellow color like early evening sunlight. The 6500k is like middle afternoon sun, very white. I personally use the 6500k, but sales in my shop have been about equal for the 2.
