Thanks a lot. I’m switching to pen hold grip after 2 years playing shake hand style. I love the pen hold grip and find this video extremely interesting, I want to study it carefully
The ultimate guide for penhold players..... Came here for learning RPB strokes but the whole video helped me a lot in correcting many aspects of my game. So, thanks a lot, Wang Hao😘😘
7 years after your comment (and not saying it's as good or better yet, but it's getting close!), the French younger Lebrun sibling seems to be the new hope for a great penhold!
Backhand attack with front side of the racket , I think, is more stabilized like ex korea player Kim Taek Soo, but on the other hand, the attack with reverse side of the racket makes easier to transfer alternately between forehand and back hand like Wang Hao. On this point of view, this instructional video is very useful to me. For aged player like me who can't make footwork like Xu Xin physically, stroke with little shift or just adjustment of center of gravity is very efficient Thank you very much for uploading.
This is my 10th time watching this video. Subscribed. The backhand is just very complicated. I can't even copy what he's doing. Great thanks for the video I am living in China so probably I will go meet Ma lin In guangzhou. He's my dream :D
I suppose he is not in so good condition now to make such kind of videos. But that would be great if he make it. At least his serve tips could be a hit :)
Ma Lin did release a coaching video more than 10 years ago. It was sponsored by double fish, another TT equipment vendor from China. I have watched it before.
+lastpokemon I think learning the motion - being able to return the ball. And mastering it - being able to place the ball wherever you want with whatever spin you want with a close to 100% success rate. Are two diferent things. Also being able to counter whatever spin you recieve, including long pimples. etcetcetc. Mastering is a pretty advanced word. and I hardly doubt your success rate is 100%.
for the above list of skills you could see me or anyone who can master these skills forhand or backhand shakehand or penhold in the top rank of TT players, I'm talking about some one who plays TT in weekend as hobby, I pretty learnt it in less than a week and I'm doing very well to amusement of my TT mates.
If you serve like he shows, you have one sidespin. If you start the movement like he does, contact the ball at the bottom of the rubber (bottom being closest to the ground at moment of contact), add pressure with the fingers and rotate your wrist towards your body, you will produce the opposite sidespin. He doesn't show it. What I do is that in the hook serve, immediately after hitting the ball I always rotate my wrist inward, this way I have the same initial motion and the same end motion for left and right spin. Still practicing. In this video he is only showing the basics of the movements. Any concealment, variations to add topspin/backspin/deadball, feints ... you'll have to discover and practice for yourself.
Unless you are built like a tank with wrists of titanium and sinews of steel ... dont bother with DHS blades+rubbers ... They weigh more than elephants :-) At least the total force you exert during a full match / practice sessions :-D
Actually maybe no, from an interview he was a fan of some penhold player from france, quite unknown. I was expecting LGL, MLin, WH or XX but nah, I guess he has some ill feelings toward these great
About the middle and the ring fingers placement on the back side supporting the paddle, can they be slightly apart or they have to be very close to each other with no gap in between ?
What's the different between red and black rubber? I'm newbie and use low budget equipment, fh moonspeed and bh galaxy 9000 II star. Is it different if i switch the blade, bh moonspeed and fh galaxy? Thnks

It's good to see Indian players playing penhold
Even I am using penhold.. 💪🏻
Simply a genius. Very hard for someone in future to have better RPB. Legend and genius.

@@cldptсоглашусь, у лебруна бекхенд действительно лучше

I am living in China so probably I will go meet Ma lin In guangzhou. He's my dream :D
PhoenixSB5 how many years have you played table tennis for?
I thought I was going to have to learn Chinese for a sec... would have made my grandparents happy but Thank You!
Good video for penhold players. Demonstrated a lot of details for different skill sets.
you, sir, are a benefactor of humanity... thanks a lot!!
I wish there was a similar video with Ma Lin.
+Konstantin Demidov he might just make it now that he is retired; if not too busy training the up and comers.
I suppose he is not in so good condition now to make such kind of videos. But that would be great if he make it. At least his serve tips could be a hit :)
lol you can probably pay whatever he is charging now per hour and get him as a serve coach xp.

The Founder of Back Hand in Penhold Grip TT
Thanks you very much..
Want to purchase a good penholder racket. Any recommendations?
At 13:30 he says he can get clockwise or counter-clockwise spin off of his hook serve. How does that work? He doesn't seem to do it in the video.
If you serve like he shows, you have one sidespin. If you start the movement like he does, contact the ball at the bottom of the rubber (bottom being closest to the ground at moment of contact), add pressure with the fingers and rotate your wrist towards your body, you will produce the opposite sidespin.
