Just started playing ping pong and I chose penhold grip, I've seen massive improvement in such a short amount of time. Because I just started playing, my backhand was always weak, but now I have the chance to learn RPB thanks to your video. This was an absolutely amazing guide
Thats awesome, if you see this comment could you let me know how your doing a year later? I hope youve stucl with penhold, I started with K-pen/J-pen, and switched to c-pen with short pips, tried some shakehand long pimple chopping, outgrew the pips and am nowback to c-pen playing ma lin soft carbon racket with DHS Hurricane 3 National on FH and Yasaka Rakza 7 Soft on BH, finally found something worth sticking with I think Ive finished my search for the perfect playstyle, Xu Xin looping and intense footwork is so much fun or me, lobbing from the table and counterlooping with forehand or RPB, so much spin and placement possiblilitys I just love it so much, Id like to hear what your progression is and maybe what your setup is if possible.
'Ping pong' is the casual name for garage players and duffs, and is not taken seriously by most people, like Pickleball. TABLE TENNIS is the correct 'real' name. Other than that I've tried every grip in the book and THE RVP is s fantastic for me, and seemed 'Foreign' to me. I model my style after Wang Hao.
oohhhhh thank u soooo much for this. As an amateur pen holder player in Europe, I have no one to ask about the proper technique to do this. So for me now there is no more than start to practice according to your advices. Please keep up the good work, I know its not only me the one who appreciates your contributions. Greetings from Berlin. By the way, if you by any chance ever come to Berlin, let me know and I will be glad to be your city guide :)
I've just realized that you two are Vietnamese. =)) I like both traditional and modern penhold styles. My favorite player is Ryu Seung Min. He seems to be the last traditional penhold grip player who reaches the world class level. I like penhold grip but I actually started learning table tennis two months ago with shake hand grip because I think it's easier for a common player like me. I just like watching guys doing good penhold style.
Here in Brazil we call it classineta (reverse penhold), very good to have in channel that shows this style. I've been practicing for a few months and i only got better after watching this video. thank you!:)
I discovered this technique by myself as it came naturally to me when I started playing in 2007. I feel like I have pionneered that :D. My opponents were often surprised by it (at leasure level).
Excellent class...! Very well explained with good angles and speed of filming. Also very good explanations. I hope you continue like this. From now on I'm going to subscribe to your channel. Congratulations. Greetings from Argentina.
When will you do new tutorials? I miss them. This was your last one, since then you only showed footage of professionals. Please start again making tutorials, they were one of the best in all of youtube
Hello Friend ! I started playing table tennis with this technique and am looking for a channel or communities of people who also play this technique. I would be grateful for a hint where to find this!
This is such a great tutorial, the pics, the positions, the visuals. For whatever reason, maybe my build, and arms I dunno, I can CRUSH balls on the FH side with penholder like no other. It feels so natural. The BH - completely different story. This will help me hopefully be able to try to transition to the penholder. I have to have the BH side working right? Thank you so much for this very specific instructional video on this stroke!
Watching this video, I finally identified why I always preferred shakehand over penhold grip: with penhold, it looks like the two front fingers (thumb and index finger) are holding the whole racket's weight, while with the shakehand the whole palm/fist is wrapped around the handle, so it feels easier/more natural.
Hi, I'm an Italian beginner and I'm using the pen hold just like yours. This reverse backhand is my nightmare. I can't push the ball to the other side and it always bounces on my side! I try to do all the steps that you (perfectly) explained, but nothing :(
@@MLFMTableTennis another question: as a beginner, do you recommend starting with the shake hand grip or the pen hold? I feel very confident on the forehand but not on the reverse back hand (penhold). But looking at the top players now, they're almost all shakehand players, thank you!
biasi I'm a penholder too, it's our choice. Reverse penhold backhand is problem for me too and I'm working on it. Usually even top level penhold players use 70% to 80% of forehand comparing to backhand because that's the strength of the pendold. Check Ma Lin videos.its very very very very hard to master the RPB 100% but atleast we should be able to return the ball when it comes to our backhand.
Curved fingers result in weaker RPB but better traditional backhand as it gives more flexibility to the wrist . For RPB ideally middle and ring fingers need to provide the opposing force to the thumb for stability.

Quite like it but it was 90% close to perfect. In my opinion your hands gone too far and wide from your body which takes you longer time to recover and play the next ball in a fast rally.
Great content, but Imho you are hitting the ball too far from the body. It gives you less leverage and so power. You can see the overextensions of the arm. Also another thing: to me your elbow is too high. Great grip and consistency though :)

Glad to see RPB content. Took me a while to pick up that style and it's awesome to hit huge backhand drives when someone isn't expecting it.

If you have quick legs (like Rui Seung Min) your choice of grip is not so important

Very detailed tutorial. Best channel for rpb and penhold.
What a “pop” off the blade. Mine don’t sound that loud. Awesome lesson. Your leg motion is so subtle but get so much power.

basically it's the same, the only different is that you hit more to the side of the ball, but this style makes blocking harder

How much better is a penhold paddle (shorter handle) for a penhold player vs a regular shake hand paddle?
Musicaltariq777 pendhold paddle gives you a better balance and much more powerful forehand attacks because of more weight on the head of the paddle.
Can I use ur video to complete my task? I can't play pingpong
I feel the reason why people don’t make videos of Penhold as it is meant to be taught in person and not many English speakers play with penhold
