I'm a switch player and I'm gonna have to say RPB is a difficult technique to learn but for me is one of the best invested skills I have gained. Placement control and in terms of heavy topspin it just works wonders. I have to say that regular backhand topspins just don't do it like RPB, and if your not careful you become obssessive in using it cause it's so good 😅. I have to give all my thanks to this Legend who showed me just how powerful some uncommon techniques are(in my region that is).
I completely agree with you… it’s taken a very long time for me to use rpb as an effective weapon. As I’m a pen hold grip player, I used to favour my forehand and all my set ups were designed to get it on to the forehand topspin. But after years of practicing reverse penhold backhand, it’s equally as an effective weapon. I urge anyone to dedicate themselves to learning the mechanics of it if you’re a penhold player. Be prepared to miss and hit the net for months and months 😅

Wang Hao is what Lee Chong Wei is to Badminton. Living legends, 3 time Olympic silver - it means 12 long years of dominance. Greater than the Gold medalists, just for their longevity
LIU GUOLIANG invented RPB, but WANG HAO was the one who perfected it. TO enter 3 Olympic Finals in a row is no small achievement. Many players cant even win their preliminary rounds in the Olympics. WANG HAO's blade is not super fast...but more of an ALL ROUND blade. if you use a blade thats too fast, you cant do the RPB the way he did.
RPB is really fun to play. I've been doing it since long. As I now have grown old and do not practice much I have switched to long pimples on the backhand to slow down the tempo a bit. Still, since one has so much action in the wrist and under arm when doing this type of stroke I can even with that rubber generate topspin and do a pretty much normal backhand loop in many situations when the opponent do not expect it. As it is pretty unusual it is also fairly hard for opponents to read. As player Wang is my favorite but I have met him a few times and to be honest he did not appear to be very friendly. Mostly he was in a bad mood but it can also be that it was his way of being focused. I never spoke with him much though as we have no language in common. Xu, which is of course another favorite, is much more easy going in my experience. His backhand is not at this level though but he has a better forehand.

王浩的打法完美。近台有直板的灵活,快速。中远台有超强的相持能力。尤其是反手防守,进攻能力超越传统直板几条街。对直板打法贡献巨大。特别喜欢这位选手。
