      After the 17 year old beat Ma Long and world no. 1 Fan Zehndong and won 100,000$ he did not celebrate not to say even smile

    Timo Boll the King.
    No wonder he is considered a tabletennis star even in China.
    When even the Chinese respect a foreigner in one of their national sports, you know that man in a beast.

      they freaking love him.

    • @kennikitty
      @kennikitty 8 лет назад +49

      At least SOMEONE who treats the man the way he should be treated. Just because he's no soccer star barely anyone in Germany knows him and his outstanding career. It's such a shame. :(
      When he carried the german flag into the Maracana stadium at the Rio opening ceremony, he looked like an overjoyed child, I was so happy for him. He's a very nice person and just an amazing athlete with a long and successfull career. He did what so many people thought was impossible: challenge the Chinese and the Chinese love him for doing so. Tabletennis needs so much more recognition.

    Timo Boll has fought generations of Chinese players, from Kong Linghui, to Liu Guoliang, Ma Lin, Wang Liqin, Wang Hao, Zhang Jike, Ma Long and Fan Zhendong. Kong and Liu are coaches. ML, WH and WLQ have retired. But Timo Boll is still fighting. Yes, Chinese won most of the important titles, but with Timo Boll competing, there was always suspense.
    The real question is where is the next Timo Boll?

    The second most respected foreign player in China, after Waldner.

    • @Leon玲央
      @Leon玲央 Год назад +1

      He told that he loves to be almost not recognised and spotted in germany, while beeing an absolute super star in a diffrent country, china.
      Btw how is he doing right now?
      Ive watched the world list and he is on 33 now :(
      I guess his worst position since whenever he was 33 last time?
      I always hope that he can play on and still win something. I guess aslong he has fun with it, he will keep on playing.
      Unfortunately he cant beat age.
      Is just crazy how long this man stayed on the top of the game.

    • @gdgeosef1367
      @gdgeosef1367 Год назад

      @@Leon玲央 as of now he is maintaining his focus on recovering from a shoulder injury which made him not compete for the time being ( since the end of february i think ) + missing the wttc 2023 that was held pretty recently, that's why his world ranking is 33 my friend.
      Nevertheless he said that he would prepare very well for the 2024 olympics in paris, so i guess timo boll's era isn't over yet.

    When they play the ball it always looks like there is some magic force that pushes the ball onto the other side of table (i guess it's spin + magnus effect) that looks so awesome how it drops even at the highest speeds.

      +Le TDD As a rule, highlight videos shouldn't include losing points, unless they are point of the century rallies, such as Ma Long vs. Fang Bo WTTC 2015, where Ma Long lost the point but it was so epic

    Was it 2005 or 2007 when he beat Chinese top 3 in QF, SF and Finals? He completely wrecked Chinese that year. I think, after Waldner, Timo is the only other player that Chinese saw as a threat.

    • @Ionesboule
      @Ionesboule  9 лет назад +8

      It was in 2005 he beat WLQ, Ma Lin and Wang Hao in a row, and in 2002 he also beat Kong Linghui in the final, yeah that was awesome, too bad he didn't manage to repeat that performance at the WTTC

    • @TheZorboidOrbb
      @TheZorboidOrbb 9 лет назад +1

      Yup... Timo in his prime was a nightmare.. He is probably at his 80% right now. At his level, its so hard to keep up fitness and creativity after 30.

    • @Ionesboule
      @Ionesboule  9 лет назад +4

      Yeah but it depends, I think he was still very consistant in early 2010's (like in 2011-12, it was a great period for him, he went in WTTC semis and was WR #1) because he earned a lot of experience and that made him stronger even if he was not as good physically, I mean if you look at Ma Lin for example, he was clearly finished past his thirties

    Miu Hirano is the one who could not only - she did beat them all on the Asian Championship with 17 years old and 2 of them without loosing a game 3-0. She did beat in a row World Rank No.6 Cheng I-Ching, World Rank No.1 Ding Ning, World Rank No.2 Zhu Yuling World Rank No.5 Chen Meng.

    • @Kuerikami
      @Kuerikami 7 лет назад

      橋本絵莉子 yes but in the latest matches she lost horribly. i think the chinese really analyzed her game and are well prepared for hirano..

    • @橋本絵莉子
      @橋本絵莉子 7 лет назад

      Yea they are very under pressure to win, of course. No she did not lost horribly, I mean she still plays good vs the Chinese players on the Japan Open she lost 0-4 VS Chen Meng but 11-7 is not a good result in a Game for Chen Meng against a girl is much younger with less experiences then her - also when Miu did beat Chen Meng before 3-0 on the Asian-Open without loosing a game, we are talking about the Elite also Liu Shiwen or Chen Meng got hard times to beat Ding Ning for example - you need to have good day when it comes to such high skilled players to win a match and Miu Hirano is still on her way to become a professional table tennis player and can already beat everyone without a problem world wide in respect to only a few players like Ding Ning, Chen Meng, Zhu Yuling, Wang Manyu, Liu Shiwen....

    Why would everyone compare it to the chinese and still say he is a legend...... A legend should have outstanding results.... if you want to compare, he only won 2 times an important tournament such as worldcup in 2002 and 2005 where he was in his prime. But he never won other important tournaments like the world championship and the olympic games (not even top 3 in olympic games)? Ma Lin won FOUR times the world cup.... and the olympic games. Zhang ji ke has won 2 times world cup and 2 times worldchampionship and olympic games. Wang hao won 3 times world cup and world championship and 3 times olympic silver. Ma long 2 times world cup and 2 times world championship and olympic games. And i'm not even talking about asian cup or other tournaments..... Timo Boll is good sportsman en probably the best in europe, but he is still far away from the chinese. Table tennis is a sport, sometimes you win sometimes you lose, but to call yourself a legend because you won a few times against some chinese is ridiculous.... what about the times he losses? please count the winning percentage of him againt every chinese player and you will see how good he is. I havent even mentioned the new upcoming star Fan zhendong who outclass him in every single way.

    • @Ionesboule
      @Ionesboule  8 лет назад

      +Scorpeanna Maybe but it's not that simple, WLQ was a tall player and today's chinese players are not especially small, the reason is mostly just cultural (there is something like 0,01% of Chinese population that plays soccer in a club, just because they don't care for this sport, but if tomorrow the government starts developing soccer in China and manages to get the people to like it as much as TT they could become a very strong team).

    He beat the Chinese in the odd pro tour event but not at the Olympics or Worlds. Overall he underachieved. Waldner, Gatien and Persson were better. Now they could beat the Chinese

      +John Mcevoy And what happened in 2002 and 2005?

    • @Reviewscentral2
      @Reviewscentral2 8 лет назад

      +Le TDD he certainly didnt win a major. The World Cup falls short of Olympics and W.Champs

    • @Ionesboule
      @Ionesboule  8 лет назад

      He won two world cups (which is still a major title, it's part of the Grand Slam) by beating Wang Liqin and Kong Linghui in 2002 (at age 21) then Wang Liqin, Kong Linghui and Wang Hao in 2005... That's not bad.
      And yeah of course Waldner or Persson were better (I'm not so sure for Gatien, he never won anything else than the 93 WTTC), but they're from another generation.

    • @Reviewscentral2
      @Reviewscentral2 8 лет назад

      +Le TDD your video title should have been "Schlager!! The man who beat the Chinese". He beat Kong Linghui etc.. along the way to winning the Biggest Major, The Worlds.

    • @Ionesboule
      @Ionesboule  8 лет назад

      John Mcevoy That's why the title of my video is "Timo Boll, the man who COULD beat the chinese", because I don't think he is less talented than Schlager, but he never managed to what Schlager did in 2003 because he choked on the majors...

    You'll need to show a video of a chines team member who has not retired. Remember if your 25 year old chinese pro you're old. They start playing when their four. And if you can't be 1-3 in the world...you don't play. Ma Long. Fan zhen dong and xu xin are just too good.

      That is the reality in every single sport. However it's just pure probability. How many Chinese people live across the globe? No wonder you can easily pick one or two, who are good at something. Germans are very good at many sports, not only table tennis, although the population is much smaller. This is remarkable and related to money as well. When country has money, they can pick up talents earlier and invest in their training.

    • @KOBEROCKS777
      @KOBEROCKS777 8 лет назад

      ABT he was the biggest threat to the Chinese. Even liu guo LIANG was afraid of him. Dima WAS once very dominant for a short period of time but now has seemed to lose his momentum due to his wedding and injuries and such.

      @@KOBEROCKS777I think the Chinese lost the WTTC to Schlager and the 2004 Olympics to Waldner/Ryu Seung Min.That was during Boll's prime.The most hyped for sure.
