      A buttery biscuity base.
      It’s hard to argue that cig should make money when all we see is them making money. I think we would all want the game to sell its self, it shouldn’t need erad or anyone standing on a soap box trying to explain why it is a game.
      If the game needs any of that it’s already not a game worth playing.
      I thought Icarus was scammy, with a weird pricing model. Picked it up on a sale, pleasantly surprised, with hours of grinding out currency and xp for progression, and even npc and working ai. That was cheaper than star citizen and I already have more hours played and not once have I fallen through the planet.
      Would I get that same experience with star citizen beyond the wow factor of seeing a big ship in hanger. Nope.

    On point 8. There is no risk to a griefer. No matter what CIG implements. Griefers want to see people suffer no matter what. Doesn't matter if they lose money, in game items or ships, get thrown in jail, etc... if they've done something they are satisfied. Idk how you combat that.

      You combat that by game design, pvp in sc is kind of endgame content, when it's your main game of sorts, you get bored of what game has to offer. If there was meaning behind pve or pvp you won't even have to differentiate between the two.

    • @HendyVelarius
      @HendyVelarius 9 месяцев назад +1

      There needs to be multiple system implementations to make this work.
      1. Designate specific zones as the FFA zone. This way the fun loving PVP players will naturally split themselves away from the griefers and campers. Pyro system will accomplish this at least.
      2. Create an overwhelming punishment for the griefers. Extremely long jail time I think is pretty fine. It won't fully "stop" griefers, but at least when I get griefed I will be satisfied knowing that griefer is forced to login and walk around doing nothing in jail for 24-48 hours, get permanently banned, or at least helps support the game I love by spending tons of money buying ships on multiple griefing accounts.
      3. Create a gameplay mechanic that will assist the victims. Bounty system is an example of this, but there needs to be a safer system than Stanton, which I believe is planned, which are the UEE systems that will have security fleet that will react quickly should a player gets griefed. With this system at least victims have ways to combat the griefer, like prioritizing shield and performing evasion maneuvers while waiting for the security fleet to arrive.
      EVE Online has most of these systems in place, and while I can't say that there aren't griefers in EVE, you won't see them as much, and with much to lose the majority of them will find better ways to enjoy their time in the game, or outright find other games to grieve.

    thing with "MK2" and "MK3" ships is that it's a good way to double or triple the ship backlog rather quickly. on top of the actual base ship never reaching its potential, because its potential was made into more expensive ship. people shouldn't have to pay for a more expensive ship just to get the gold standard of the ship they bought 10 years ago.
    the in practice application of pay to win MK1/2/3 business models is literal cancer... what actually happens is that whales buy everything regardless to be on top, competitive players pay for select top tier to be on same level as whales and to be above free to play/ base package players. might work for a bit, until base package players figure out they can't generate enough XP to keep their loadout current meta, get mad, and stop playing. then competitive and hardcore players figure out they're only paying to be on par with whales and get pissed that 90% of the competition left and it's just them and whales, so they play something else. then whales are left with propping up the company by themselves.

    The thing about missing information in an audit is that sometimes it's just been forgotten to be filed in, or the person filing it didn't know if it had to be included or not. The vast majority of countries make information about what's needed for financial information dispension incredibly complicated, so that if you're not a specialist for that specific process, you'll tend to make something wrong. I can absolutely look at this and see it as an honest mistake by some employee, rather than a malicious attempt at obfuscation.

    I disagree about the tech demo thing. A tech demo is something thrown together to demonstrate a technical feature, and is intended from the outset to be scrapped and the final product built from the ground up. The server meshing mockup we saw at Citizencon was a tech demo, and everything pre-3.0 was arguably one, but as incomplete as the current game is, it's still a product intended to evolve directly into the final game and so it doesn't fit the definition. SC is just an unfinished early access game, like a million others out there, it's just way bigger, more expensive, and has dragged on way longer.

    I think CIG missed the mark on modularity. Sell the base ship, then sell the modular packages. Could have made the same amount of $$. We don't need 4 Cutlass variants, we needed one Cutlass frame and four module packages. Go from only selling four items to potentially selling 5 items. :)
    With a focus to modularity, it turns a one time buy ship like the MSR into multiple opportunities to sell additional modules to give the ship different roles. Constellation? Same thing as the Cutlass.

    • @michaelpease2103
      @michaelpease2103 9 месяцев назад +3

      They made plenty of money doing it the way they did. What you're suggesting would've taken way more time, and the tech didn't exist to create modularity properly until recently. They would've failed a long time ago if they hadn't sold ships exactly the way they did.
      But in the long run I absolutely agree with you! I would hope all variants just end up being modular swaps.

    • @blackmamba___

      During the decade it took for them to finally release modular, they needed a filler.
      Plus I’m not sure every ships needs to come with a modular function, so in that case.. you can still have variants.
      The ships that they promised would be modular, they should go back and make a modular version of it and give players the option to keep their variants or opt instead for the modular version.

    I honestly think the only way CIG is going to make everyone happy is if they take a play out of War Thunder's book and make a dedicated "realistic" mode with DCS level flight simulation & sqaud-esque FPS simulation.
    You'll find all the sweaty PVP dog fighter bois, and filthy space pirates moving over to said mode/server etc. Leaving all the PVE and casual players to the "regular" mode/servers.
    Personally I love the diversity and potential for emergent gameplay keeping everything in one place, but if they ever do split modes I'll definitely be joining the "realistic" side.

    I can’t agree more with the idea that you can’t have depth if the base product is unfinished… How much longer do we have to deal with gravitational anomalies such as what happens with boxes? Ever watch those suckers bounce? How is it that in any positive-g environment, any box weighing more than about 20kg bounces? Ship parts? Bounce. Whole ships? Bounce. It’s almost as though the variable that stores the item’s weight or mass suddenly gets set to zero or a negative value once my handheld tractor beam lets go of it. But, since the box eventually settles down, it must be resetting over time or something. The same can be said for ship pieces. I’ve tanked PC and NPC ships while in atmo and I landed to see what goodies they had. I was able to move ship pieces, but they BOUNCED!! I’ve had NPCs blow up my ship while I’m outside on one mission or another, and when I come back, THE WIND ON THE SURFACE IS BLOWING MY SHIP PIECES AROUND! Yet, the same mass of air is not strong enough to push me around (or more appropriately, kill me). This is immersion-destroying, not to mention deadly, if a ship piece hits you. Cargo boxes that supposedly weigh too much for me to move without technological help suddenly have no mass/weight on occasion, usually associated with one of those ship-blowing-up events I just mentioned. Of course, it isn’t just ship pieces. Loot - rifles mostly - bounce around for no reason. Placing items on a shelf or even just on the floor using the ‘PLACE’ selection or with a tractor beam can often have odd results, too. I mean, basic UI stuff like this makes the game a joke, and they’re trying to get me to love the idea of an improved star map?? I mean, yes, I want the star map, but in my play through, I am moving items around a lot more than I use the star map, so this brokenness affects me more than the always-annoying star map.
    Another brain-numbing inconsistency is what you can climb on and what you can’t. In abandoned settlements, I am always surprised by the things I can jump and even do a pull-up to climb onto…but other objects, like some containers on the ground, nope. No pull-up, no climb, no jump. It would be nice if they fixed that issue and allowed us to climb onto more things, and even better, give us a visual indication like an up-arrow or a ‘ ^ ‘ at the top of the screen when we are facing an object we can climb onto…
    There’s more…oh, so much more, but I really want my message to be: PLEASE FIX BASIC PROBLEMS BEFORE TAKING ON MORE COMPLEX ISSUES!

    One thing people need to stop saying: “Pyro will be completely lawless” The gangs make and enforce their own laws. It’s not a UEE controlled system where security is relatively guaranteed for sure, but there are rules you’re going to have to follow or else you will have consequences.
    An Unpopular Opinion: Stanton and Pyro have, relatively, the same level of law and enforcement. One is enforced by gangs and one is enforced by corporations. And the only real difference between gangs and corporations is paperwork.

    Another point on "Too Many Ships: take... the problem with new ships is, we've been in a long, never-ending cycle, of NEEDING new ships, to supply us with new experiences, just to keep minimal moments seeming "fresh" and "new". I'm all for new ships... but unfortunately, ships have been the only tangible thing we've had to look forward to for so long. Granted, this is changing... or so it seems... fingers crossed!

    • @slider799
      @slider799 9 месяцев назад

      The new ships don't give new experiences after you have played the core style of about 6-8 ships eg starter, fighters, miners, salvager, cargo, heavy military you basically have played them all they are basically a 3d mesh with a few quirky functions on various types. But in fact the mesh has awful physics its more like a number of interia values in a grid like row, pitch, yaw, strafe, forward, backwards, up, down.
      But they are truly awful in this regard they don't even compensate for something like mass when cargo is added to the ship. They randomly exploded. You cant get off and on them without face planting. Things fall into the walls / floor and cause them to detonate. The ramps jack the ships into the air if it hits the ground. Things slip over something when elevators go into the ground. The doors lag / slow to open.
      Adding so many ships is one of the worst decisions they ever made. Sure they probably sell some but there probably 10x more people out there who refuse to buy any more after the first 1-2 because of a consistant failure to deliver. Not to mention the moement you buy one 3 months later the ship is avilable in game for 15 minutes of drug running.. its actally insulting at this point

    My biggest problem is that they are clearly prioritizing release of new ships so people can spend even more money instead of them focusing on making core features faster and creating new star systems. Sure it helps with people working on it getting payed but that's only a fraction of the money spent. Its been over 10 years and we still have only one star system, by any metric that is embarrassing no matter how many new systems had to be developed to support even that one star system. It is also partially because they want to shove everything into this one star system. Does it really need to have every headquarters of every corporation out there? Not really, would have been better if every corp had its own star system and we would have had 4-5 star systems by now. Result of this is going to be that compared to Orison, every other star system will seem kind of bland and empty and will have to highly rely on procedural generation instead of handcrafting. That is just one example. Their priorities in terms of development have always been going in the wrong direction, meaning towards ships. We don't really need over 200 ships for the launch of the game, that's just absurd, especially considering that many of those are just variants of one another

    CIGs biggest mistake was that they promised to make 2 games at once and that they focused on finishing the single player game first. That is why they couldn't show the progress they made and why they couldn't solve the server meshing problem earlier. If they had focused on Star Citizen they could have shown all their progress, they could have tackled a lot of their tech issues earlier and everyone would be happy.
    But maybe they knew that it would take a lot of time to build all those tools and systems and just focused on the only thing they could do in the meantime - creating art and lore and a single player game that didn't require all these tools and systems... It's not that unusual for games to take around 10+ years in development. Especially if they depend on a lot of tech that isn't build yet.
    And their comes the point i strongly disagree with Mike... No, other Game Studios wouldn't have solved the server meshing issue earlier. In my opinion they wouldn't even start trying. Or why are they making the same games over and over again instead of new ones?

    2) But if you consider that CR has created a company that employs 750-1500 people on multiple continents, over those 10+ years. Got investors to fund 100% it for the most part (backers) all the while generating news, entertainment, and industry breaking game tech. SUCCESS
    Its real name is Star Citizen Alpha ... and has a lot of DLCs !

    How about they have 3.12 flight at 60% of that era speeds and weapons and components that had flavor and mixed loadouts. NO - we wasted the last 4 years on the failed Power Triangle and MM ... broken HUDs that are worse than the 3.12 hud. We had to redo things that didn't need reworks to drag out SHIP SALES for another 4-6 years to fund SQ42 and PRETEND they actually want the PU to go LIVE

  • @EarthmanJim
    @EarthmanJim 9 месяцев назад

    What's been "insane and stupid" about the approach has been that they gave people the impression that they were making SC along with SQ42, and under that pretense people "pledged" money for ships they anticipate using in the PU. A lot of people were left to believe that along with acquiring the ship, they were pledging towards the development of the game in which they would actually use those items, which is not the single player game.
    Would server meshing have taken this long to figure out if SC was the priority and engineering resources were being put towards that problem? Or were they really working this whole time towards that, and they just focused on SQ42 in the meantime? Either way the communication was fuzzy. That's the main grief for me.
    I gotta say though, this video did help me reframe things more realistically, especially your take on it being a tech demo and why these things feel so unplanned still; that everything we have at this point is just proof of concept. It's disappointing that we're still at this stage, but it is what it is.

  • @Tazytots
    @Tazytots 9 месяцев назад

    It's such a timeless, bizzare take that SC "will change 40 times between now and release so theres no point talking about anything". Are we talking about the same game here? The game that has implemented major gameplay loops the same way their design notes said they would, ten years ago? Really? Anyone who says SC is a "tech demo" has never actually bothered to look up the definition of "tech demo" or "game"/"video game". It's a game. A bad one, but a game. Stop coping.
    Also the entire argument that any game is "outdated" by the time it comes out truly is a moronic take. The MMO community is populated by four major games. WoW, ESO, FFXIV, and Guild Wars 2. Anyone wanna take a wild guess how old those games are? The games everyone still plays? Graphics don't matter. They never do.

    I don't necessarily agree that it is a tech demo, it has gameplay loops that all lead to buying ships as well as survival. There is alot of games out there that have less gameplay loops than star citizen. It is basically a survival sandbox game. Now, if you say: "compared to what was promised years ago, it is a tech demo" Then yes it is.

  • @aguspuig6615
    @aguspuig6615 9 месяцев назад

    I think the issue with calling it a tech demo is that its done with the worst possible connotation 99% of the time. I 100% agree with Mikes definition, they keep pumping out things but they are unrelated and not interconected, its not a game its a bunch of different activities in a big sandbox. But when people think tech demo they think theres 1 flyable ship that proves theres sort of a flight model and then all the other ships are Jpegs that will someday be added, or that they have showed that you can technically take damage and that there are gun models they just have to add teh shooting mechanics.
    I still remember that retarded gameranx video from like a year ago were they still thought there were no ships in the game

Every time they iterate on something that is money wasted due to failing to follow a rational schedule. Some of the most absurd examples are that they are on version 5(?) or cloud rendering, and some ships are waiting for their 3rd or fourth rework. Failure to plan resulting in significant rework is not something to brag about and people need to stop defending CIG on this. This is why they are soon $700 million spent with zero games released. Hundreds of millions in effort have been overwritten by indecision and putting the flash cart in front of the substance horse.

    With the whole industry going to shit, I wonder why people saying, "the game will never come out" or "the game will never be finished" as a negative at all. These people bought into a scam game like the day before then went to cry to their mom about it. There are also people who championed unfinished game, saying "you don't understand game development, hmph!". Even Dragon's Dogma turns out to be a usual Dogshit PC port, and they had the gall to ask us to pre fking order.
    How about, instead paying for an unfinished game masquerading as a finished one, how about play a pre-alpha game wearing the clothes of a pre-alpha game? 45$ and voila, you basically on the Steam Early access. Its a sandbox, go play with the sand, make a sand castle, bury yourself under the sand, poop on the sand. And at the end of the day, after experiencing what SC has to offer, then you can went off about a pre-alpha game feeling like a pre-alpha game.

    Gen12/Vulkan don't "make the game look better" like he implies in the video. It just is a baseline for other technologies to come in. The game will definitely not be the peak of games visually at launch, its already behind.... and unless they go back and retexture everything in the game from scratch every 2 years and remodel everything it will look slightly outdated.
    Its definitely sketchy that we gave them money for SC and they spent it on squadron 42.... the money should have been separate imo. And we know they will take a ton of "profit" for themselves from SQ42 and I sincerely doubt much of it will go back into SC.

    I don't agree with Mike on a lot of things, but I do agree on the tech demo point. Sc has done a lot of things that were not considered possible, but I feel that we will only get to the game after 4.0. My main reason for disagreeing with Mike is his push for content, because all content we have received has just been proof of concept. Most of the engine has now been built and it was truly ambitious and cool, but from 4.0 we will start seeing the game being built.
    I have literally uninstalled the game not because I don't like it, but I think near the end of the year beginning of next is when we will start seeing real content patches and I still want the game to feel new to me.

    I do not think Star Citizen looked above and beyond games in the past. In many ways, Crysis 3 looks better, hell I can make Skyrim look better than many places in Star Citizen. Horizon Forbidden West is in some areas less advanced on the technical side than what we've seen at Citizencon last year, but it looks phenomenal. A big part of that is art direction and asset quality. Star Citizen always had strong art direction and high quality assets. Even in super flat lighting, those can look really good. Add in ray tracing, and now it's catching up to the current big hitters, but don't forget that RT-capable consoles only launched a few years ago, and most games do target multiplatform releases. So you feeling like games have caught up to Star Citizen has more to do with hardware trends than CIG lagging behind. I mean, if we were still supposed to have DX11 for the next 5 years or so, I'd agree that CIG has been sleeping, but Vulkan could be a thing by the time 3.23 releases.
