  • I was expecting a VFR flight to the practice area. My third solo reminded me to expect the unexpected when it comes to the weather.

    My grandad owned a Cessna. I remember flying with him when I was 7 or 8 years old. I guess that's where my intense love of aviation comes from. Everything I did as a teen had to do with my future of flying. Declined acceptance to the Air Force Academy for fear of not getting to fly. Got my first flight log book at 17. Applied to Embry Riddle, MTSU. I just wanted to fly. They found a heart arythmia. I got scared I would waste a bunch of money training only to be told I can't fly. The next 30 years just happened somehow. Never pursued it. But the dream has come back alive. Thank you for being part of the cause of that. Video number 2. Check.

Thanks for the laughs I recently got my love for aviation back an enjoy all the videos out I want to get my private pilot license an eventually get my own plane. I'd like to build one so I can enjoy the excitement as much as you have. Thanks for the education and I can't wait to see you fly your own Bush Cat when it's complete.

I'm happy to share my experiences and very happy to see another spark in the aviation world come alive. Good luck on your journey. Always looking for a destination--maybe Gallatin will make the list someday. Thanks for watching.

    If you had spent some time in a sim, all this stuff would have been no sweat.
    Why I believe every pilot needs to be made familiar with IFR even if they don’t get that rating, simply for the safety factor of unexpected situations.

    • @bushcattom

      Given the airport’s close proximity to Lake Michigan and subsequent unpredictable weather my training encountered IMC on more than one occasion. I had a great instructor and spent a good time under the hood. That said, IMC is nothing to trifle with but thanks to good training I know what to do just in case.

      I liked the CTLS as a trainer. More difficult to fly than a 172, lighter on the controls and a little harder to slow down. But all in all a great performer and a good cross country machine. Thanks for watching.

    This is why I think Sports pilots need to get more training IFR incase of a situation like this. Skies can change in an instant and it's better to be prepared.

      Thankfully my instructor prepped me for this very thing. The airport I trained in is right next to Lake Michigan. On more than one occasion we encountered sudden clouds. So we had good practice on how to deal with it. Thanks for watching.

    Your best video that I have seen and you still showed the enthusiasm
    for flying without all the effects. Might be just because I am British but
    having looked at most of you Bushcat videos I do feel that a lot of good info
    is missed with the OTT cartoon fun.

      Hello Flying Kub. Thanks for watching. I know not everybody likes the light-hearted humor
      but I can't help it. I love flying and I love having fun. And there's plenty of "serious" videos out
      there to satisfy the less amused crowd. I'm trying to stike a balance between the fun of aviation
      and the informational side. It's not everybody's cup of tea, but for every one who doesn't like the humor
      I've got 100 who do. Thanks for your comment. I hope you keep watching. Cheerio!

      @@bushcattom I like the humor just not as much, it is good to have a light harted video but also get the message over, I just feel that the message gets lost in the joke. Your earlier video are good but half way between the two I think would be purrrrrrfect for a Bushcat.

    I have a question your are a sport pilot now if if you want to get a private pilot license would it be easier and faster than starting from zero?

    • @bushcattom
      @bushcattom  3 года назад +2

      Yes. All the hours of instruction and time in the airplane for my Sport Pilot certificate count towards the PPL. To go for my PPL. I would have to accomplish some night flights and a little more time under the hood. I would need to pass the FAA written for PPL and take another checkride. And that’s it. One of the reasons I went for the sport Pilot was that I could, if I chose, go for my PPL with much less effort. So far I don’t see the need.

    • @tangoromeo1739
      @tangoromeo1739 3 года назад

      @@bushcattom that's a great way of making it to PPl I would do the same thing in the near future because all I can access is sport pilot and I thought it would be a waste of time and energy however letting me know that is really interesting I appreciate your help

    What did ASOS say about the temp - dew point spread? I'm guessing the spread was 2-3 degrees.

    • @bushcattom
      @bushcattom  3 года назад

      Actually no. The dew point spread was wide. This is a Lake Michigan phenomenon. Sudden low clouds and fog coming off the cold lake water. I’ve seen this happen on sunny blue sky days.

    • @billr8667
      @billr8667 3 года назад

      @@bushcattom understood. I've heard from other pilots that folks have used videos as support for reporting them to the FAA for pretty minor transgressions. I'm not saying this could happen to you, but why post this stuff?

    • @bushcattom
      @bushcattom  3 года назад +2

      @@billr8667 I'm always thinking to use my videos in part to educate. When ceiling is high and everything looks good, weather can still come in unexpectedly--be prepared for it. No transgression here. The airport was VFR at take-off. Unforecast weather came in and I took immediate action to get out of it. But I hear what you're saying. There's no wisdom in posting anything where the pilot is deliberately breaking the rules--that could indeed come back to bite him.

      I like the plane very much. I almost bought one before I decided on the Bushcat. Not the easiest plane to fly. Very light on the controls and very slippery. She’ll pick up speed very quickly. But very nice once you get the hang of it. Huge cabin space. Auto pilot is great. A great cross country cruiser.
