There's often two kind of guitarists (caricature of course) : the clean technicians and the wild butchers. Saki is one of those rather rare birds: a higely skilled technician who also has that "wild" rock attack on the guitar. When you see her live, she don't really care about "clean" playing and making no mistake: she's not afraid to experiment and improvise in the heat of the moment. That's what set her apart. "Marionette" was my introduction to Mary's Blood, I have all their records now.
That smile on your face at the end bro, I can definitely related! If Saki was a western artist I think she would be talked about as one of the greatest guitarist around, male of or female. And I don't mean by some technical metric that anyone who practices long enough can reach. She has a 10+ year long catalogue in Mary's Blood plus 2 albums with Nemophila, yet none of her playing sounds repetitive or stale. And that's not counting Mixx, Amhiru or any other projects she's worked on. She's still so young too.....and of course crazy beautiful🥰 And I just thought of this. The song is called "Marionette" and I wonder if that main riff was purposely written that way to so symbolically represents the fingers of a puppet master on the fretboard. 🤔It might be a stretch, but In a live video Saki did some overhand tapping that kinda looks like she's working a puppet. I wouldn't doubt that when you look at the thought Saki puts behind her writing. WOW! 🤯Real quick, speaking of great guitarist, did you see Friedman play with Megadeth in Japan a couple weeks ago? I swear I about cried watching him play that Tornado Of Souls solo. There's just something different when the creator is playing their own piece. Only Marty knows the purpose of every note and what he wants out of it, plus he has this weird unique picking style where he'll also pick and flick the strings while soloing. He has said when he was developing his style he listened to a lot of far east music with odd (to us) time signatures and and scale patterns and practiced replicating it on guitar. Honestly I think that's why the Tornado solo stands out as one of the greatest and is difficult to copy. I literally FELT the difference when he played it, and that's no shade on any of the great guitarist that came after him (well maybe Broderick, but that's another story). I think Keiko Loureiro is a phenomenal musician, not just guitarist, but even he doesn't have the same impact. Anyway, great reaction as usual and can't wait for Nemophila to come stateside.
The new upload from the new album Starlight Saki realy lets rip. watching that lady's fingers move on the fret board is like watching waves role in relentless controlled power .
And Saki has a solo instrumental video she did for her 10th anniversary called "Brightness" and Mary's Blood has a new album coming out soon. It is self titled to bookend their 10 year career. A new video for the song "Starlight" was just uploaded within the last week. Eye is vocalist, Rio on bass and Mari on drums.
Marionette is one of my favorite songs by Mary’s Blood (what a name). The guitar riff reminds me of Screaming for Vengeance-era Judas Priest. The band has evolved a lot since them. Check out more recent live performances.
I am really enjoying your journey through the all female Japanese rock/metal bands. Still a fervent Nightwish fan and yet to hear a vocalist that comes close to Floor but man these girls are good. Still Band Maid on top, followed by Lovebites but there are so many left to hear. Found a few "Best 15" sites for female bands, guitarists and drummers in Japan. They are so talented.
ARIGATO for the good good choice!! EYE(vo), SAKI(guitar), RIO(bass), and MARI(drums) are so talented musicians. Please react the other song. "R.I.P."(live 2020) : RIO's bass is so brutal. SAKI's guitar is so crazy!!
They bring in Yashiro as support guitarist for tour so they don't need a back track for the harmonies and rhythm guitar parts. She is a guitar instructor so she can't really officially join any band that's why she comes in as support.
That was fun. A RUclips channel called "Necro Phil" has live versions of "Moebius Strip" & "Bloody Birthday" from Mary's Blood 2015 live at the Blaze. Both are well worth a listen.
That was a fun reaction to watch. Saki does impossible things with her guitars. I can't figure out most of it, and I can figure out what most guitar players are doing and copy it (poorly), but I just pretty much watch her play with the same expression on my face that you had doing this reaction.
Mary’s Blood have a decade of music to explore. This is a cool track but it’s by no means the best. I love their Confessions album and I hope their new self titled album will have as many good tracks. These girls are the other OG group of this era after Aldious, but MB can be more adventurous and punk where Aldious can be more commercial and pop rock. Either way, both bands offer huge catalogues many vastly more successful bands in the west would kill for. We are indeed blessed to have Saki and have her turning double duty.
I'm glad you got around to Mary's Blood my favorite. SAKI is always unbelievable, they was rumors that RIO might be going to LoveBites, she a great bassist some great bass lines. But with their new releases and maybe their best music yet. "Worlds End" is outstanding as well as "Starlight". I don't think any of them leaving soon just rumors. And maybe Saki will start spending more time with her band now.
Mary’s Blood were the first successful band to spin out of the legendary Destrose. (Later spinouts include Disqualia, Mardelas, Fate Gear and Lovebites.) Mary’s Blood had some early personnel changes but settled into a stable lineup consisting of Eye (vocals), Saki (guitar), Rio (bass) and Mari (drums). Saki is (no surprise) one of the top shredders, male or female, in the world, and Rio and Mari are one of the best, and heaviest, back lines playing today. Saki also has several other projects, including her own solo work, which veers more in the progressive/fusion direction. She has also been involved as a founder of Nemophila, one of the newest Japanese metal bands that is attracting a lot of notice. When they tour, they are joined by Yashiro on second lead guitar (that’s why you see five women on stage in live performances). Yashiro is an instructor at Tokyo College of Music and has declined a lot of offers to join a band full time. She has taught several of the young, up and coming female guitarists. I’ve seen them live and they are mind-blowing. Here is a great live clip with strong Guns N Roses vibes. Saki just tears it up and the whole band are in top form: www.bilibili.com/video/BV17E411u7Rh
Yes Mary's blood love them long time now awesome so much more so let's get to bridear thread of the light live so much like classic rock really good be well
This song is most people's entry to Mary's Blood. Which is fine, if a little misleading as their albums aren't all headbanging. They mix things up, throw in a little punk, some rock n roll and anything else they fancy doing. Which gives their albums a replay value higher than just endless power riffing and shredding.
I am not a big fan of the power metal style vocals either. I was on the fence with how I felt about Eye until I saw their live stuff. She actually has some grit in her voice and has some serious range. As for Saki, well she is just a beauty and a beast wrapped up in one.
Ryan, Herman Li of Dragonforce has a live stream on Twitch four days a week, and Saki is going to be a guest some time in November (exactly when isn't worked out yet).
All these J-Rock female bands are cool but not finding myself smiling throughout the entire song and moving to the groove like the best band in the world! BANDMAID!!!🔥🔥❤❤🤘🤘
