I don’t like that it’s pretty much impossible for them to bring it back. Sony and Disney don’t care about the animated rights. One of the other should just let it happen!
Sony produced this series for Disney XD, it was Disney who refused to pick up more seasons. They had the scorpion, the hobgoblin, carnage, hydroman, the prowler and the jackal set to show up in the latter seasons while they would explore Peter's college years and he was also set to get more attached to MJ. I knew the show had arcs but I never realized how they tied in with the villains and episode titles. Everything I learn of this show I just love, and an amazing review.
Another thing they changed in the show which actually was pretty understandable was the colour change for the Vulture's armour essentially the showrunners believed that there were too many Spider-Man villains who wore Green so they decided to change the colour scheme for the Vulture by giving him black and red armour which I think looks really cool
Oh yeah that is a change I’m totally understand. A lot of the the og Spider-Man villains designs overuse green and purple (probably to best contrast with Spider-Man’s colors and that works individually in a vacuum but when presented together is a bit too much)
Spectacular Spiderman, Avengers Earth's Mightiest Heroes and Wolverine and the X men were Marvel's version of the DC animated universe. Both have solid stories, both have interesting villians that show a reflection of their respective heroes, both were the definitive representation of their heroes respectively and I grew up with them and enjoy them equally.
This was just one of the many shared universe Marvel had in their animated adaptations, before that, in the 80's, they had a universe made of 1981 Spider man show and it's spin off Spider man and his amazing friends. Following that, in the 90's they had a universe made of the Spiderman TAS, X-men TAS, Fantastic Four, The incredible Hulk and Iron Man.

If it wasn't for the heavy, HEAVY censorship, recycled animation, diminishing animation quality over each season and everyone being the Kingpin's bitch I'd agree. As far as I'm concerned, SSM wins hands down
I’ve never seen spectacular spider man because I was never really drawn in due to the animation style. Looks very nicktoony. 90s style is a lot more detailed; characters are realistically proportioned. But with all the good comments on spectacular, I’m tempted to purchase series in order to watch.
A theme I noticed with this show is the theme of loneliness. One of the biggest examples is how he’s the lone superhero. While Spider-Man has some allies and Peter Parker has people he can rely on, as far as we know, he’s the only superhero against numerous supervillains in this universe. There’s no S.H.I.E.L.D. no Avengers, etc. He has no one to truly relate with, to share the burden of this double life. And while people can give him advice, it’s not the same as being mentored by Fury, Stark, Rogers, etc. He has to learn to keep it together on the go. Yet he does it anyways.
As much as I love this show. 90s animated series was my introduction to spider-man, iron man, cap, blade, morbius, black cat, punisher, daredevil. I like that one a little more. Both are amazing!
Spectacular drew a a lot of inspiration from the Rami films, as well as from his classic adventures in the '60s. Those were the best stories he had and they're honestly the best ones to adapt. Seriously I never get tired of the master planner story line, or the symbiote storyline, they're just some of my favorites
Its been a long while since I watched the show but spectacular spiderman has my favorite incarnation of venom. Seeing Eddy instead of being the enemy of Peter pretty much from the get go be his close friend that gets more distant from him as his role as spiderman messes up more of his life and eventually gets the push to full on villainy with the symbiote was really interesting to see.
Even if it didn't last long, It most certainly made its mark as the definitive Spider-Man cartoon. Really gives meaning to the phrase quality over quantity.
This was the greatest Spider-Man series ever made! It was even better than the 90's animated series (and even that great one was cancelled)! The story, the characters, the animation, the voice acting, the accomplishments and struggles, it was all done incredibly well! Why in the world couldn't Disney and Sony work things out so it could have continued?! Seriously, to this day fans want this show to return! There needs to be a plan where all the original people who worked on it return to finish it they way the planned!
This show was truly spectacular. I’m shocked Disney didn’t buy the rights for it in one of their shopping sprees. They’re missing out on a goldmine. Then again, Fox sat on the Deadpool movie for a decade and change, so I really shouldn’t be surprised
Because that show had way more episodes and explored more villains. People like me spent more time watching that because this show didn't exist at the time
I like both, but I agree that Spectacular doesa better job exploring Spider man and his mythology. The 90's series sometimes was to overtop in the voice acting (spider man fighting shocker in the venom saga is the biggest exemple), the characters said what they were gonna do instead of just doing and letting the viewers understand the story by the visual instead of the words, and there were moments where Peter's personal drama was pushed aside in favor of the villain story or a crossovers with the other marvel heroes.
I ADORED this show as a kid, and I rewatched it from old dvds a couple of months ago. I still love this show to this day, and is one of 3 forms of media that still holds up 4 me from when I was younger (this, Lego Star Wars the complete saga, and clone wars). Until like a month ago I thought this was a good show, that no one had ever heard of. Now I know there’s a community out there, it’s heartwarming. Thank you for being here the spectacular community, in a period of time where I’ve had allot of social anxiety, mental exhaustion and burnout. Thank you
my favorite moment from the entire show is ox humming the theme song in the elevator and shocker and ricochet just look at him like, "why bro". ox isnt wrong tho, even after years of first watching it id hum it to my self from time to time.
Besides the juggernaut of writing that make this series its 'spectacular' namesake, the animation team(s) definitely deserve praise for all the movement they were able to compose both subtle and grand. The fight scenes are an absolute pleasure to watch and like you said the simplistic style definitely lends itself to be more fluid and dynamic! I think it's the best I've ever seen Spider-Man's agility and movement depicted in animation and nothing within the realm comes close.
The Spectacular Spider-Man will ALWAYS be the GREATEST adaptation of a Spider-Man story. Ever. I only wish Disney can allow Sony to continue this masterpiece!😭
As someone who was born 2007 and is 13 now, I am so sad to see such a amazing and epic story with impressive feat end. I just glad I got to grew up watching the show, and in Australia they have it on Netflix so I watched it like 7-10 times by now
Do you know why this show is good? It takes things one step at a time and doesn’t force anything right down our throats to quickly get from point A to B just like how the mcu Spider-Man movies did.
I personally really like MCU Spiderman. His movies are much smaller compared to other Marvel, and his integration into the MCU is great. Wish the integration was less, but the Spiderman movies are still technically Sony's. They only have the character for a limited time, so they are trying to get as much use out of him before the Sony-Disney deal expires.
Fun fact: The creator of the show, Greg Wiseman, wanted to start a new marvel universe stemming from his show spectacular Spider-Man. Similar to how they did with Batman the animated series, they would introduce marvel characters little by little to spin off their own respective shows. It was shot down because of the legal problems.
Spectacular Spider-Man is hands down one of the best cartoons ever and a great example of how to do long term story telling and how to adapt comic books to shows
Nooooope not when A Disney don’t own rights B they already have focus on a new cartoon and C it’s by Sony you never know what can happen. The show may go down hill making it known as the worst show. I’d rather leave it as a great hell spectacular show
This show is way maturing and source material respecting than garbage Ultimate Spider-man. 90s Spider-man was also good just like the other 90s marvel cartoons.
Something I think is worth mentioning is what happened to The Batman. The whole show was a pinnacle of what kids shows can/should be but it’s also notable that there was a visible difference in quality in the first two seasons and the last three, a trend that I think we’d all hate to see happen in spider man. Again, I love both shows because they’re amazing but it’s good for thought.
Great review and it was cool that you pulled out the details like the titles, arcs and moments in the show. The homages to the Lee/Ditko comics with various effects, especially in season 1 were a really nice touch too in this series.
What really annoys me about this show is you could see where they were going He was going to rescue gwen from Harry but in the process destroy any prospect of romance, mj was probably going to discover his secret on her own and watch him and understand how great of a guy and hero he is by sacrificing his happiness for the city and fall in love with him, then he'd later find out and like her and the Last season would be spent developing their relationship but nooooooo. They canceled this masterpiece in the making... God
And it's about damn time it gets a reboot. Well more like a continuation. I want to see it's story in full because we only got 40% of this masterpiece .
12:50 I would have loved to have seen that and possibly it would have been cool to have Eddie become less of a villain and more of an anti-hero especially when it came to Carnage and the whole revealing' that the Carnage symbiote is the offspring of the Venom symbiote
6:17 speaking of which it's worth noting that Shocker in the show wasn't the original Herman Schultz but rather Jackson Brice who in the comics actually used an identity called Montana
I remember two students who bullied me in middle school and I did nothing about it. Then one day, while on my way to my highschool, I saw those two students again and hated them to the core and tried to avoid them. Then I happen to run in to them despite trying to avoid them and they said hi to me. I was about to curse them out and talk shit at them but instead I swallowed my pride and just said hi back and said great to see you. I can never bring myself to talk down on those I hate so much because I always go by this psychological need to always do the right thing and show respect to even pieces of shit that don't deserve it despite me being shit on. It's hard. It's stuff like this that why I love and relate to Spider-Man so much.
@@mauramenjivar5355 Spider-Man didn’t teach this to me. It was all naturally me. Spidey relates too much for me because my life is pretty much just like Spidey’s. Being nice despite getting shit on, doing something of doing the right thing because of something I did in my past, and lying about myself to keep a girl out of harm’s way. I see too much of myself in the guy; Spider-Man is my number one super hero.

Greg Weismann has said that the show wouldn't have killed Gwen. A decision I kinda like, sure her death is iconic but she doesn't need to die for Peter to grow whenever she's used
What Could Have Been: The main showrunner, Greg Weisman, had rough plans for a total of sixty-five episodes, which was thirty-nine more than what we got. -The Scorpion, The Hobgoblin, Mister Negative, Hydro-Man, and Carnage were slated to appear in the third season of the series. Morris Bench and Cletus Kasady both had brief cameos in the second season, with the former being voiced by Bill Fagerbakke. Mac Gargan is also mentioned as a private investigator who works for Jameson, and fans have had fun picking out extras in the background who might have been him; this is encouraged by Weisman himself, who indicated that minor characters like Tombstone's driver were intended as secret cameos. -Weisman also expressed interest in using The Kingpin, as a Big Bad on the show, but was unable to due to the fact that, while the character originated as a Spider-Man villain, Marvel now has Fisk officially classified as the arch-enemy of Daredevil, whom Sony did not have the rights to. As a result, the character Tombstone was used as a Suspiciously Similar Substitute. -There were also rumors about Maximum Carnage being adapted as well as The Clone Saga with Miles Warren gained full control over Curt Connors' lab at the end of Season 2. Building off the plans for Carnage to appear, Weisman stated that wanted to attempt a Venom spin-off series had the show reached a third season. a) In addition to the Venom spin-off, Weisman talked about the possibility of expanding his version of the Marvel Universe with other shows following other teams. One idea was to introduce Hobie Brown as the Prowler and have him team up with Silver Sable (and possibly Venom) as an anti-hero team. He also talked about integrating other Marvel characters and spinning them off into their own shows. This included the Human Torch (leading to a Fantastic Four spin-off), Captain America and the Hulk (leading to an Avengers spin-off), and Beast and Cyclops (leading to an X-Men spin-off). Part of the trade-off with not being able to use the Kingpin was that Weisman considered making a Daredevil spin-off. -Weisman's aspirations also included finishing the series with Peter's graduation from High School, then doing four straight-to-DVD movies, covering Peter's college years. -Emily Osborn was to have been given a larger role and was to be voiced by Marina Sirtis. -Christopher Yost was up for the executive producer job on the series, but they went with Weisman instead. Weisman also planned to make Mary Jane to become Peter's main love interest eventually but he wanted to imitate their romance in the comics and their parallel character development, whereby both of them would mature with Romantic False Lead (Mark Allen for MJ, Liz and Gwen for Peter) before starting their relationship for real. -Weisman said that he had no plans whatsoever to kill Gwen Stacy during the course of his show and admitted to being disturbed by fan comments and from other co-workers about when "he's going to kill her" when he noted that the nature of a children's superhero show precluded that kind of content. He admitted that were the show successful enough to create some home video movies (a la Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker) he would have tried going for PG-13 content but at the same time he didn't want to kill his version of Gwen.

@@Young_Special Totally agree with ya, Ultimate had some pros but a lot of cons, but the 2017 series was just downright terrible.
@@mcurran6505 but....i think we might be down for the count, cause there's actually a ray of light within our midst. Now that Spider-Man: freshman year wont be DIRECTLY connected to the MAIN mcu, it has the potential to change the past mistakes that disney and marvel animation has made and ACTUALLY make something fresh, compelling, visually beutiful, and a show that focuses INDEPENDENTLY on Peter Parker and his journey into becoming the legendary Spider-Man; but we shall see very soon, but there's a great amount of hope to look forward to.
I love how every few months we still get another review of this masterpiece
I really wish Sony and Disney would take note of this. They don’t realize how missed this show is
@Christian Stewart Im pretty sure I signed it. It was asking about money, so I assume I did
@Christian Stewart noice
This show still had so many more routes that it could've explored, I was so upset when it got cancelled.
I don’t like that it’s pretty much impossible for them to bring it back. Sony and Disney don’t care about the animated rights. One of the other should just let it happen!
Sony produced this series for Disney XD, it was Disney who refused to pick up more seasons.
Fast foward later Disney bought the animated tv rights to spider-man Sony keeps the live action tv rights and film rights while still serving as the distributor for this show.
As they rightfully owned it some like to blame sony but i cant really I mean they were in financial problems.
At the time and they had a vision for the show so they couldn't just sell it and its not like Disney had any plan of continuing anyways. They didn't even make a deal with sony they just went ahead and made another cartoon
@@lllightskindude So it's Disney's fault. I KNEW IT!!!

I am so glad that this was my first introduction to Spiderman as a kid.

I didn't watch this but I will watch
@@divyanshjain6560 I really do recommend the show, as even though it only had two seasons (before getting unjustly cancelled) and the style may be simplistic, the show regardless truly understands Spiderman incredibly well and truly embodies the characters exploits from the original Stan Lee and Steve Ditko era of Spiderman while alsso having great story telling behind it that really makes you anticipated to see what's next.
In an ideal world, 'Spectacular Spider-Man' would've ran for 4, or 5 seasons of 65, or more episodes.
And the guys who pitched Ultimate Spider-Man would have been laughed out of the boardroom.
Every time I think of that it gives me chills... Would be a dream come true.
They had the scorpion, the hobgoblin, carnage, hydroman, the prowler and the jackal set to show up in the latter seasons while they would explore Peter's college years and he was also set to get more attached to MJ. All this while Osborn was still alive, Kraven, sandman and the chameleon were still lurking around
@@dariusbrock2713 Personally, i dont like the idea of peter ending with Gwen in this version of them. Yes that’s how every peter is sense to end… But could the Mary Jane relation, be more interesting than the one with Gwen ? I specifically liked that in that version, there is no all that stuff arounf Mary Jane, and it give her enough space to make her one of the greatest character…
I really not see this MJ with this Peter and please tell me if you know something that has been said by the authors around the three of them for the season 3, 4 or 5.

Hey with X men 97 revival there is always hope
Pity Jeph Loeb took over and ruined everything.
@@spencermalley10 This I think was more disney then Loeb, considering that he was the writer of Spider man Blue, one the best stories of the character.

To be fair.... Cameos of other heroes is what made the 90s one great.
Every time I think about how this show got cancelled it makes me so incredibly sad. It defined such a large part of childhood.
This show was truly spectacular. I’m shocked Disney didn’t buy the rights for it in one of their shopping sprees.
They’re missing out on a goldmine.
Then again, Fox sat on the Deadpool movie for a decade and change, so I really shouldn’t be surprised
We need this Show to make a Comeback like right now.

Agreed
Cant believe people like the 90's series
This is the best and most Spectacular (pon intended) series ever made
I like the series but prefer spectacular
Because that show had way more episodes and explored more villains. People like me spent more time watching that because this show didn't exist at the time
I like both, but I agree that Spectacular doesa better job exploring Spider man and his mythology. The 90's series sometimes was to overtop in the voice acting (spider man fighting shocker in the venom saga is the biggest exemple), the characters said what they were gonna do instead of just doing and letting the viewers understand the story by the visual instead of the words, and there were moments where Peter's personal drama was pushed aside in favor of the villain story or a crossovers with the other marvel heroes.
@Shin Shaman strongly disagree
Josh Keaton is the Best Spider Man Since Tobey Maguire.

The more I revisit the series, the more I want more! I’ll never get over this series getting cancelled!
This series is the best version of Spider-Man we have ever seen!
“It’s Spider-Man, don’t forget the hyphen.”
Josh Keaton is to Spider-Man what Kevin Conroy is to Batman.
“What about Black Widow?”
“We have Black White Widower”
Besides the juggernaut of writing that make this series its 'spectacular' namesake, the animation team(s) definitely deserve praise for all the movement they were able to compose both subtle and grand. The fight scenes are an absolute pleasure to watch and like you said the simplistic style definitely lends itself to be more fluid and dynamic! I think it's the best I've ever seen Spider-Man's agility and movement depicted in animation and nothing within the realm comes close.
I could have sworn this channel already reviewed Spec Spidey. My very own mandela effect lol
I guess I subscribed to you because of your clone wars video then :D
Hey, the more reviews it gets, the longer it can stay alive until a comeback.
I just glad I got to grew up watching the show, and in Australia they have it on Netflix so I watched it like 7-10 times by now
Yeah, I have it all on dvd's myself! Netflix doesn't have it in US...
Do you know why this show is good? It takes things one step at a time and doesn’t force anything right down our throats to quickly get from point A to B just like how the mcu Spider-Man movies did.
@SpiritusC And Hobgoblin plus a Venom rematch
@SpiritusC Man, it could’ve had such a climatic build up and ending that was so good, that it could rival Avatar: The last air bender
Spectacular! And I'm not just talking of the show.
Isn’t that always the case
Spectacular Spider-Man is hands down one of the best cartoons ever and a great example of how to do long term story telling and how to adapt comic books to shows
MCU should take notes of spec spidey for Tom Holland’s version, sure have the comedic relief but don’t forget the seriousness that this show does
We got the last season of CW, maybe we’ll get lucky and Disney+ will give us more SS
Nooooope not when A Disney don’t own rights B they already have focus on a new cartoon and C it’s by Sony you never know what can happen. The show may go down hill making it known as the worst show. I’d rather leave it as a great hell spectacular show

Something I think is worth mentioning is what happened to The Batman. The whole show was a pinnacle of what kids shows can/should be but it’s also notable that there was a visible difference in quality in the first two seasons and the last three, a trend that I think we’d all hate to see happen in spider man. Great review and it was cool that you pulled out the details like the titles, arcs and moments in the show. The homages to the Lee/Ditko comics with various effects, especially in season 1 were a really nice touch too in this series.
What really annoys me about this show is you could see where they were going
He was going to rescue gwen from Harry but in the process destroy any prospect of romance, mj was probably going to discover his secret on her own and watch him and understand how great of a guy and hero he is by sacrificing his happiness for the city and fall in love with him, then he'd later find out and like her and the Last season would be spent developing their relationship but nooooooo. 10:41 it's worth noting that later on in the comics Sally becomes a superhero known as Blue Bird
12:50 I would have loved to have seen that and possibly it would have been cool to have Eddie become less of a villain and more of an anti-hero especially when it came to Carnage and the whole revealing' that the Carnage symbiote is the offspring of the Venom symbiote

MY FAVORITE SUPERHERO SHOW OF ALL TIMME!!!!!
