- “Sometimes to love someone, you got to be a stranger.”
I have been a huge fan of Denis Villeneuve for years now after I discovered his cinema with " Prisoners". I've wanted to work on something from him for a while now. I chose Blade Runner because these movies represent something unique to me and I can't even put the correct words on it. The second movie sumptuously photographed by legendary cinematographer Roger Deakins remains to me one of the most beautiful movie I have ever seen.
Thank you all for being more and more on the channel. Know that I work hard and will work harder to produce more and more videos in the future. Let's keep going together as always, I love you all.

Kills me that Villeneuve said he's never doing a film like that again because of how underappreciated it is by the mass market, he's just sticking to easier to absorb concepts for the wider audience appeal. 2049 is absolutely slept on
Sure, but then he turned around and is working on Dune. So much for that "promise." :)
I’m sooo excited for Dune, the cinematographer may not be Deakins but his work on Rogue One was really good
i never saw it because i thought it was another shitty hollywood reboot/remake, and also i hadn't seen the first movie. but i watched 2049 and was blown away, i liked it so much that i watched the first one afterwards, but I am so disappointed that i never saw it in the cinemas :(
The Ancient One indeed
Shows how bad movie audience IQ have fallen , show them a space battle they go wild , show them something more deeper they scratched their heads 😔
"You look like a good joe" was for me the saddest scene of the movie, realising he was not special
I agree, it was really sad (knowing that his name was just in her program). But man, when this evil bitch crushed her in front of him, I swear... It felt like the whole universe collapsed in a second T_T

This movie was a masterpiece that not enough people saw and it’s a shame.
I've tried to watch it like 3 times but I fall asleep everytime. Its super boring.
Ramzy eh it’s not for everyone. It’s definitely very slow and boring but it more than makes up for it in how beautiful the cinematography is like the movie just looks straight stunning and the acting is extremely good. Also the story is really damn good but it definitely could of used some more action
And to think he's releasing DUNE soon, I'm beyond excited
Blade Runner was the same. Only over time it became a classic.
@MAST3RCHIEF 98 this movie has a lot of boring action, you can't compare this movie to the masterpiece of the first movie. That's why people didnt watch it... reviewers also were not pleased. The movie was made to entertain people of fast and furious. that was the problem. Not people who really found the first movie a classic for what it was. too many explosions, too many shootings, too much noise and so little exploration of that wonderful cyberpunk world.

Underrated?
I wouldn't say underrated, its a well recieved film. Critics and general audience loved it, just not many people seen it and that's why it's overlooked, also Roger Deakins who is a Cinematographer of this film Won his first Oscar for this film and this movie was also Nominated for 2 or 3 more Oscars but lost out, so it's definitely isn't underrated.

@@sheltr9735 "Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends" John 15:13
This is how I have always thought of it.
This film communicates something incredibly deep and nuanced, and there are certainly parts which will illicit different conclusions from different people. For me, the film is saying that, we all long to be special in some way or another. We feel that we are missing something, and if only we could just discover it, we would be happy, and our existence would be validated. K believes for a long time that he is special - and he is worth something in the world, but the true crux of the film is that he realises that he isn't, and that he was never the 'main character'. But the beautiful conclusion that is reached is that your existence is valid and important, simply because you are conscious. You can feel emotion, you can feel the cold snow, and there was never anything else that you needed to be or to have.
Existence = Identity.
I've always felt that way; that no other creature on earth feels the need to justify its existence except humans. I don't need to make excuses or give reasons for my existence. I live!
That was beautifully written. Thank you.
Wow! Thank you for this beautiful perspective. "... there was never anything else that you needed to be or to have." If we all realized this on the gut level, there would be nothing but peace everywhere.
K is easily one of the greatest characters ever.

This video feels timeless. I can't believe we get to enjoy a Blade Runner tribute this good. The pace of the video feels so calming. You took your time with a movie that takes his time but you gave it the dynamic feeling you needed to to create something that goes way beyond my understanding. You gave this song your own rhythm which I find admirable. Your use of some scenes and those SFX highlighted some shots without diminishing the others by keeping the momentum going.

I watched Blade Runner back in 1982. I've seen literally thousands of movies since then, of all genres. Blade Runner has remained my undisputed favorite. It effected me on a level that I've never experienced before or since. I've watched it at least a hundred times since it came out. I never thought I'd find a movie that was it's equal. As a general rule, sequels suck. 2049 is that rare exception. I absolutely love this movie. It has the exact same feel, the exact same emotional depth and intensity as the original. I was happy to see Harrison Ford, Edward James Olmos, and Sean Young reprise their roles. This movie deserved so much more fanfare than it received. I will be watching both movies, back to back for many years to come.

I'm 40 years old and never saw the first Blade Runner. I knew it was an important film that had a cult following. I was in the theater when the trailer for 2049 came out (trailer 3) and I thought it was so well done (including the music) that I was blown away and wanted to know this story. I went to watch the original shortly after and enjoyed it. Very unique. I saw 2049 in the theater the day after its debut. When it was over, it left me sitting in my seat for a while. The rest of the evening I just kept thinking about life - meaning, purpose, love, the difficult and complex nature of reality etc. The original was great but 2049 just really grabbed me. I love this film and consider it the greatest sci-fi next to Terminator 2 and Aliens. The film score was magnificent too. I ended up writing a summation after having seen it a second time:
"There was no real decoy. It was purely on paper. K/Joe is utterly, completely, unequivocally unremarkable, thus his name, Joe... as in Average Joe. Joi does not possess a soul. She is completely fake. She is the other side of the Replicant coin and is made solely to please and coddle her owner/lover. Her entire branding scheme is that she'll be anything you want. Joi is K's fleeting dream of being special -- to be human, or as he put it, "to have a soul" -- so she always reinforced this to him. Just before Luv crushed her emanator she made sure in her final moment to tell him that she loved him.
Wallace posed a question about whether Deckard was moved by love or by programming. To me there's no doubt whatsoever Deckard is fully human. The original movie is about a bad man finding his humanity through the grace of a machine. Wallace's question is not a literal "Are you human or machine?" question, but pondering what the difference is; if love is just neurochemistry, and if we are products of biological programming or something higher, like a soul. The ultimate takeaway is that it really doesn't matter. In fact the only thing that matters is what we choose to do with our lives. We find and create our own meaning and purpose.
In summary, 2049 is about dreams and delusions. K wants desperately to feel special so Joi tells him this constantly and he quickly assumes all the evidence points to him because it's his dream. He becomes deluded and forces himself into the situation even as it destroys him. He thinks this is what it means to be human - to grapple with one's humanity. Then upon meeting Freysa, K comes to learn that in fact he is not special after all. Not born but manufactured. He is torn between two sides telling him what his identity is and should be; the LAPD who informs his identity as that of a slave, and the resistance which informs his identity as that of a free Replicant.
When K comes across the giant pink Joi on the bridge, she says to him "You look like a good Joe". He then realizes that not even the name his Joi gave him was special. Her feelings for him were never real... just programming. K, at this point an emotionally heartbroken broken Replicant. It is in this moment that he chooses to follow his own path and not let anyone tell him who he is or what he should do. He makes the most human decision of all and takes his life into his own hands. He saves Deckard for the same reason Roy did in the first Blade Runner. He wanted someone to remember him, for his final decision that fully validates him as human to not be in vain. No one else gave him his identity, only he did, and his sacrifice ensured forever that he was by every metric a human being, even if the world would ultimately forget him."
I’ve never seen this movie and still this edit moves me. The snow in these scenes... snow has always signified ending for me. I suppose that’s why I dread it so much. Most people, most kids, think of Christmas or snowball fights... but all I see is death. Something ends, the world stops spinning, time stops... and all we can do is sit there, frozen, thinking of what we’re losing and how there’s nothing we can do about it. Like we’re stuck in a realm between life and death.
I know this is some really sappy, dramatic stuff, but it describes exactly what I feel every time it snows. I guess that says a lot about me.
when i see snow i think of wild snowboarding on the mountains. pow pow face shots!
The White of Snow represents cleansing and a rebirth after the death (dead of winter)

I dont care about these mass oriented blockbusters..most of my friends dont understand that.. they found Dune boring. I feel sorry for them because, these movies are masterpiece. And the longer they are the more precious they are. So much thought, so much value in each set of them.. i really can watch this material forever, each time finding smth new. Thank you Dennis, once again for bringing the hope to cinema and so much pleasure for me. You are a genius
Una obra maestra, absolutamente imprescindible. no se cuantas veces la he visto. Y siempre encuentro algo nuevo. Bladerunner, incombustible.
i never cry about movies, not even this one but this one did something very special, it made me feel lost, forgotten and lonely. it shows the reallity of not being special and just being controlled by a higher power. it shows us how lonely you can be. i honestly cant really describe it.....It is the best dystopian world ive ever seen without a question
Man... I've watched it 3-4 times before I could bring myself to comment. Wow.
Firstly, the pacing of edit was done to top level, one you'd expect of the best professionals. The use of effects throughouts to create a rythem the balanced out the actions and sshots throughout created an immersive chills-worthy experience for the viewer. Infact, the pacing was done to such perfection you never found your self feeling rushed or going too slow... you felt appreciative of each and every shot, dialog and effect throughout. And then it came to end at a great pace too and left me in awe of what I just witnessed.
Secondly, the sound was so crispy and clear, the use of any ducking, or effects with the song was seemlessly sowned together. Not one single issue with any sound throughout. I was wearing my expensive headset which even the best edit picks out the slightest issues and I could not hear a single fuck up in any second of this video. Phenonemal.
Thirdly, as a fan of Blade runner, the way you executed to tell a story and emotion was truly immersive again. One of your many talents is taking a movie and creating a small masterpiece to either tell the story of a movie, an emotion or a character study and rn im left very impressed by your creation here. I can only be called art.
Finally, the innovation, the idea to play with sound and create a tempo and pushing forward what is known in the community of editing. Its an incredibly impressive trait you have, and you do it so so so succesfully every time. I cannot stress enough the love I have for your work, how proud I am of your final products and work ethic and overall how you continue to impress me despite me being an avid follower of yours for a LONG ass time.
Well done my friend, as always you have uploaded an incredible video and a wonderful push in the right direction for editing and its potential.
The fact that the mainstream audience didnt value this movie is further proof that freedom for the sake of freedom isnt enough. Its allowed our worst excesses to turn us into monsters...
You either love this movie or you dislike it but i cannot understand the ones that dislike the movie… my fav movie of all time
All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in the rain...
This is my FAVORITE MOVIE. I love the way it deals with “humanity” its so immersive and really makes us think about who we are deep down. What does our physicality or origin matter as long as we can think, decide independently and feel, to “experience” what is happening, we are human. Humanity isn’t a single species, it is an emotion, and emotion shared throughout all things. Not confined but free to all.
We are all just matter, just atoms and particles, our shape and composition, our vision, that isn’t human. Human is what is within.
I’ve been excited for this and you, Slyfer have just delivered one of the greatest tributes I’ve ever seen! That musical soundtrack supporting it was the PERFECT choice. Your editing skills are improving even now which is amazing. Thank you for this.
I remember seeing this movie in theaters when I was 12 I was to young to understand it I rewatched it and it changed my life.
