Assessing battery placement and size is never easy with micro dot sights as there is next to no space to play with for internals. The factors to put into play are: Overall battery life / profile size / ease of accessibility. For a micro dot like our Sentinel II, intended for serious defensive and EDC use, we made the decision to go for the bottom loaded to fit a larger 2032 battery for maximized battery life as well as maintaining the lowest and slimmest profile possible for concealability and co witness capabilities. We understand taking a few minutes at the range every year or so to change the battery and ensure you are still holding zero can be a pain, but keeping the battery life extended was our top priority for this specific product.
Man thats a shame. Love your optics but bottom load is not the answer. Having to rezero every time is a huge negative. Youll sell them for sure. People need to know the hassle of rezero every 50,000 hours. And most shooters will do it in significantly less hours to avoid any chance of dead bat.
I understand but personally I’m changing out my batteries way before I get even close to the battery life ending. Therefore I’d rather have a smaller 1632 that I can change without losing my zero. Therefore unfortunately I’ll continue to use competitors for this application. That being said your rmr style optics with a top loading battery are phenomenal and I’ll continue to be a customer there. I think a lot of people share my opinion but maybe people don’t. Either way I hope in the future you design an optic in this same format that is not bottom loading.
Stating your guys thought process means a lot! Makes sense to me, and stocking 2032s makes it simpler too. A slight inconvenience that's overcome w a minute at the range is absolutely worth a performance jump.
From someone who has owned multiple Swampfox optics and likes the quality and pricing, it needs two things to be truly competitive: side/top loading battery, and an optional framing reticle (circle/cross/whatever) for those people that want, or need because some of our eyes are worn out, a larger focal point.
No MRS or at least 6MOA option for an "EDC" optic and bottom battery loading forcing re-zero every 6mos-1yr? starting at $269-$299... where is the competitive advantage versus Holosun?
@@nlanwebb this also just goes back to my OP that at this price point and these "features"... Its a hard ask on the potential customer considering Holosun has the competitive advantage in comparison.
While I was watching this I was comparing the sentinel 2 to my 507c as I'm in the market for another one. I do love swampfox though if the price point was less I'd try one for sure.
Agreed, let’s sacrifice some size and or run time for a top/side load battery, doesn’t need to be a cr2032, go a little smaller and intentionally reduce the run time but increase ease of changes!
I get that…sort of a pain. I feel like I should be removing, inspecting, reinstalling, and rezeroing after the time it takes to kill a battery anyway. Especially on a weapon I carry everyday…which for me makes it a mute point. Just my opinion.
