Hey Mr. Pankey! I think you are amazing banjo teacher!!! I'm from Russia, Saint Petersburg and I'm playin' my ol' five string banjo, that was made in GDR for thirty years old, her name is Musima and i like how she is singing 😊 I'm a big fan of American🇺🇸 bluegrass and my favourite singer is LESTER FLATT ❤ Thanks for video ❤❤❤
Thank you for keeping it simple. Too many times everyone wants to spice it up, but I appreciate simple banjo played clean over fancy banjo played mediocre. Nicely done Jim as usual.
I am a fairly new banjo player, and I have been working on the "Iead banjo" part for this song. I have struggled with the timing, so playing along with you at the end is my favorite way to practice now! Thanks for doing what you do, and for teaching us new banjo players how to master the basics!
Hey Jim, I have been playing guitar for about 5 years and just got a banjo a few days ago. I have a deep passion for music and I am just so eager to get all of these rolls under my belt. I am just really eager to learn and can’t stop watching and playing. I really don’t have a clue why I’m commenting except to say thank you for the videos. I would like to get to the point of playing along at the bluegrass jams we have in this area. I’ve grown up in the south and I’m as country as a 2 dollar bill and been raised in a musically talented family.
Thank you SO MUCH for these free resources-- I saw that you'd given us a google doc and almost cried I was so excited, haha. Do you have a patreon? Or another way I could donate money to you? You're truly one of the best banjo teachers I've ever seen! Thanks so much for helping all of us Jim, you're a really calming and encouraging face to see!
@@JimPankey I have only been playing since November and learn a lot from you! I am an old dude that never had time to learn my favorite instrument until now. Much appreciation for what you do! Keep up the good work!
Hey Jim, I want to thank you again for all the great effort you put in to benefit those of us who are learning the banjo. You and your videos are the best ever. I do have one question. What brand is your thumb pick? I have a plastic thumb pick and have some trouble keeping it on. By the way I finally bought my own banjo. I now have a Washburn B16K. Hope you have a great day!!!
Hi Jim.....these are great videos....thanks.I have been playing about six months and your way of teaching Is Brilliant. Nice Hurley on the wall. I was wondering if you could do a lesson on Sweet Sixteen by the Fureys. Thanks, Edward.
Another great video! Overtime work has picked up and i have been slacking on my banjo learning but i am finally getting back into it and hope to add this song under my belt in the next week or so.... if i can get my fat fingers to work
Also couldnt help but notice the 4 string acoustic bass on the wall! Ive been debating on buying one of those myself. Albenez makes one just like that for a good price but think i should learn 1 instrument at a time!

Thank you for letting me be a part of your banjo journey!
I’ve seen a few of the Musima banjos. They’re usually pretty good!
You have got me playing banjo pretty good! Only took me 50 or so years to find a teacher that could do that. Thanks for these great lessons, Jim!
Shucks man... you're doing the work; I'm just here to help a little. Keep picking!

Simple is often the best solution, especially when just starting out.

That's pretty cool stuff. I don't care what you say, your voice isn't that bad. when you sang you reminded me of the great Hank Williams.

It’s actually a ukulele. 😀
Take your time with it. You can do it. 😀
Jim, I see the hurling stick on the wall... do/did you play? Jerry
I picked that up in Bray for my son. Neither he nor I play, but figured it was a great souvenir.
Greetings from Ireland, Jim...new to the banjo and enjoying your lessons...I cant avoid asking you why you have a hurley on your wall?
Souvenir for my son from the first time I toured Ireland with a band. Got him that and a Gaelic football.
@@JimPankey nice...I hope you'll come back to us soon 🇮🇪☘

Thanks Jim. Another good one 👍
Glad you liked it. Stay tuned for more. :)
Jim, I am getting a dead sound when I pick and pinch... any tips to get a nice sound like you are getting?
Just keep trying... you’ll figure it out.
Love this lesson of moveable chord shapes. Does the same principle apply to all chords? I'm a patron of yours
As a rule of thumb, yes.
on the moveable chord, if the chord shape contains a g note, is it ok to play the 5th string too? Or would there never be any need for that?
You can play it, but it kinda defeats the purpose of the vamp. Having that staccato effect is kinda neat.
🙏 😊 thank you
☺️
Your so good tech har. Michael from uk
Thanks 😊
This is where i get lost, so far its been impossible to get the fingers on my left hand to go where they should, it feels to awkward
Spend 30 minutes a day for a week.... :)
I’m the video it says you posted the cord changes?? Can you tell me where? Thanks Jim.
Yup. There's a link in the description.
Thanks
Welcome

It’s a Hurley.
Hi Jim is this the f shape vamp.?????
Yup!!
Awesome would you be able to teach us "Turkey in the straw" on one of your videos please jim?
Turkey in the Straw really isn't something I'm ready to tackle in my videos here. It's a fairly complex tune and really wouldn't lend itself to what I'm trying to do here.

Robert Grendon Cavanman myself, novice banjo player but I have some tabs for a few fairly easy tunes
Sean Smith
