I live near the national quilt museum so I've been trying to learn about blankets and quilts since I can get them so cheap. Thanks for the info! And you said Peoria! That's a few hours north of me

I used to sell vintage chenille fabric for a living. I’d buy damaged vintage chenille bedspreads and cut them up. I made pretty good money but it was so time consuming and took up so much space. I was thinking about picking up blankets up again but it’s just so hard to photograph and store.
I used to buy huge clear bags used for gift baskets to wrap my expensive chenille bedspreads in.
I sold on Etsy and eBay.

Yes, I hardly ever find chenille and storage space cam be an issue

I came across this video today- thats so much for the info. I'll check the blankets & linens from now on. Thats one area I don't know much about!

np! It's an area at the thrift that is usually overlooked by resellers . My favorite are baby blankets. I pick up the modern ones too.

Great video! I follow you on Instagram and you are killing it! Vintage linens are my weakness. Blankets, sheets, towels, love it all. Modern brands I keep an eye out for are PB & Shabby Chic even some ikea pieces can do well.

Went to a Yardsale yesterday and the sweet man’s wife had passed several months ago. He was selling all the blankets she had collected to give away at showers over the years. I saw one with ducks and grabbed it. I found your video. Now I’m wondering if I should go back and buy the rest of the table!! 🤦🏼‍♀️

Blankets have sentimental feelings to them with certain styles and patterns.

I have kind of stayed away from blankets in the past because the thought of trying to photograph them has been overwhelming. However, the tips you provided make it so much less complicated.

I thought of you yesterday when I picked up a blanket with cheesey writing to "Mother". Is it similar to clothing, where the fact that it's made in USA means it is more likely it is vintage? it has a sticker on it that says made in USA, hard to read the brand, loam craft maybe. Looks vintage but I'm surprised that a sticker would have managed to stay attached if it is really old.

Yes but not always. Paper tags are indicator of o0s or earlier. Ive fou d 70s blabkets still sealed in plastic.

I wonder if handknit blankets would do similarly well

Unless they are vintage with a unique pattern or colorway, I leave them. I do pickup vtg ones if they have the 3d flower.

Hey and I was considering blankets on Etsy, too. Is this a profitable business for you? Please advice. Thanks.

yes. It took my about 6 months to learn but do some research and learn good style terms and keywords

Question - do you wash all the blankets? Steam? I found a RL comforter recently and the cleaners charge $20+ or laundromat large capacity washer and dryer is just under $10 to use.

    • @Thriftingismybeach
      @Thriftingismybeach  2 года назад

I only was if quite dirty or if theres an odor. You can sanitize by steaming but I dont. The waffle weave blankets have a delicate knit so I do not wash those.

I like to polymailers too. But my question is is it better after you put in a polymailers to stuff it in a flat rate box? Want to be cheaper to send it out that way then trying to send it out priority? Or what way do you send it if just using a poly mailer?
