I agree with you two in the sense that Scream is an incredible film regardless of being spoiled or not.
I would also say that the spoiler isn’t that big of a deal in the 2020’s.
But in 1996, the reveal that there were two killers under the mask…
Absolutely mind blowing (yes simple…but still mind blowing).
The reveal elevated a great horror film into one of the best ever made.

I like that they let his character live; he was kind of the moral center of the movie in the sense that his meta-narrative referenced how the good ones last longer in slasher flicks, and it was a clever reversal having a guy be the virgin (or was Sydney supposed to be a virgin also?)

    *Fun Facts:*
-Two years after this movie came out, Courtney Cox and David Arquette actually got married in real life.
-Sales for caller ID SKYROCKETED upon release.
-By the mid 90's, a lot of people saw horror as a "dying" genre. It wasn't until _Scream_ did the genre receive a re-boost in popularity.
-Kevin Williamson (who wrote the screenplay), also created shows like _Dawson's Creek_ , and _The Vampire Diaries_ .
-The voice of the killer (Roger Jackson), also did the voice of Mojo JoJo from _The Powerpuff Girls_ .
-The janitor in the hallway was played by Wes Craven (the film's director), as a nod to Freddy Krueger.
-Dewey was originally supposed to die, but David Arquette's performance was so good that they decided to have him live.

Gotta agree here. Sidney is one of the all time best horror heroines. Not least because her portrayal in this franchise single-handedly changed the way female protagonists in almost all horror movies after her were written. For years after Scream, and arguably to this day, they were all knock offs of the Sidney Prescott template.
Also, I happen to think Sidney’s best line in the whole franchise happens in one of the sequels, so they’re all worth watching just to get to that one.

Scream 3 wasn't as good as the first two but it does have its moments. Scream 4 was a good improvement on 3 and a clever takedown on horror remakes. That opening scene however was a bit of a triple whammy, with stars like Amiee Teegarden, Anna Paquin, Kristen Bell to name a few. As for Scream 5 and 6, they were great sequels, I found the 2022 sequel to be a violent, nostalgic but at the same time, bittersweet installment. Kat playing trivia along with Casey is beautiful. Even better that they both got tricked by the same question.
The last question is even trickier. There are two doors. . . and two killers. The killer was at BOTH doors. Or as they say later, "We ask you a question, and if you get wrong, you die. If you get it right. . . you die!"
13:42: "How did he get in there!"
Ah, that's the original part! Lured her outside by saying he was on her front porch, snuck in while she was looking for him, hid in the closet until she locked the door securely, thus forcing her to -- as she'd dismissed as stupid just moments ago -- run up the stairs instead of going out the front door.
I love the scene with Dewey and the ice cream cone, standing next to the Sheriff and his cigarette. Just showing his boyish personality. Instead of stepping out for a smoke, he steps out for a cone. Just a fun little comedic touch.
    27:24: "I like her!"
That's another element of Scream's success. In so many other horror and especially slasher movies, the characters are dull at best, stupid and unlikeable at worst. Here, we get enough time with most of the characters to get at least a little invested in them, they're played well by charismatic young actors, so we care when they die. It swings it back to actual horror, not "I can't WAIT until Jason/Freddy/Michael gives that @$$hole what he deserves. . . THANK YOU!"
Rose McGowan actually could fit through the cat flap, her shirt had to be stapled in so she wouldn't fall out. I do remember working at a movie theater when this film got its second theatrical run, and being on a brief break and in the theater watching that scene, and one lady got up and walked to the door, needing a breather. It seems kind of silly, but once she's stuck in that door and the garage door starts to go up, it's just marking time until she dies. For my money, the scariest kill in the film.
29:17: "Thank goodness I've seen many of these movies!"
I hadn't, but Scream made me a horror fan, as I started working through other horror movies so I could get all the references.
If you watch closely while Billy is "getting stabbed," you can see some blatant telegraphs that it was faked in the background. When Billy turns, his shirt all "bloody," you can see the blade of the knife is clean before the killer hides it in his hand makes a squeezing motion. When Sydney (and the camera) next focuses on the killer, the knife is bloody, and he does the dramatic "squeegee the blood off the blade with my fingers" trick. Stu mimed stabbing Billy (possibly tearing his shirt and spraying him with their homebrew fake blood in the process), then squeezed more fake blood onto the blade to sell the illusion.
Yeah, the sequels are all good, lampshading various trends in the horror genre. The sequel, predictably, talks sequels, the third talks trilogies, four talks remakes/reboots, five talks "un-reboots" or "re-quels," six gets into franchises. The meta of four is my favorite, as it was a "reboot" intended to kick-start a new trilogy, but that didn't happen. . . just like all the reboots it was poking fun at. Plus, it includes the best line in the franchise, in my opinion: You forgot the first rule of the remake. *Don't f**k with the original.*

I’m still mad that after all of these years it wasn’t until I’d seen a few reaction videos for Scream that I realized Stu sent Tatum to get more beer, she’s immediately killed, later on Stu then goes to get more beer from the garage where he would have seen Tatum, he also didn’t find it odd that Tatum never returned from the garage.

So glad that you reacted to this one, glad you had fun with it.
The "Wes Carpenter" bit was a joke with Tatum accidentally mixing up the names of John Carpenter and Wes Craven (who of course directed this film).

    4. The principal was the Fonz/Henry Winkler. (one of Fonzie's Jacket is on a coat hanger in the closet)
    5. Tatum/Rose McGowan as long as I have a face.

The fun thing about _Scream_ is that it's actually a horror _parody_ and a _tribute_ at the same time. Hence the numerous cliches, and people constantly summing up all the illogical things people in horror movies do. The dual-killer twist (and several others) is to make this parody a film that also _inverts_ some horror tropes, to show how you can actually use those tropes to your advantage.
The success of the film is because it added the parody with horror tropes throughout the movie and _still_ managed to create an actual slasher that is suspenseful and enjoyable.
(Also Wes Carpenter is a reference to Wes Craven (Nightmare on Elm Street) and John Carpenter (The Thing), famous horror directors.)
I think I've said it before, but now you can also dive into _Cabin in the Woods_ .

    • @dawb86
      @dawb86 8 месяцев назад +5

The sad irony is there's always been so many hacks allowed to thrive in Hollywood that rather than learn from the satirical nature of 'Scream' they did exactly what the filmmakers were commenting on in the film. Bite ideas and rehash them repeatedly to the point that the genre became stale and weak all over again. It's like Kevin and Wes said let's make a movie as a tribute to the audience who loves the genre by calling attention to all the overused tropes and after its success everyone else said let's make more movies with the same tired tropes and throw on a couple 'Scream'-style twists as well. I think only ten percent of the people in Hollywood actually even know why/how films work lol.

    Fun Facts:
    - So when Tatum said to Dewey that the janitor is your superior, it's true cause the janitor at the school that was dressed as Freddy Krueger was Wes Craven, who directed Scream-Scream 4. He also directed the original Nightmare on Elm Street.
    - So before Scream came out in 96, the caller ID was not popular at all. The caller I.D. sales in the U.S. tripled after Scream was released, lol.
    - Billy AND Stu were at Casey's and used their girlfriends as Alibis for being out. Stu was on the patio with Steve while Billy was in the front, tormenting her on the phone. The question about "Which door am I at" was a trick question. Stu ran to the front door to let Billy in. You could hear the front door open before she went outside through the kitchen. Also, when her parents got home, the front door was open. When her mom was hearing Casey breathing on the other end of the phone line, you can hear one talking to another saying "tree," and the phone ends. Also, when Steve was tied up, he was looking at both directions of the house.
    - Wes Craven lol to get his actors into character emotionally like Drew Barrymore (Casey) and Neve Campbell (Sidney) right before he start to film he would run up to them and tell them something terrifying. With Drew Wes Craven would tell her real-life stories of animal cruelty to bring out her emotions and then run off and yell action, lol.
    - Roger L. Jackson is the voice of Ghostface for ALL of Scream movies. For every film, the actors were never allowed to meet him before or see him during filming, so that way, when they were on the phone with him, it would give them that real fear effect. Wes Craven always kept him hidden from the others to where they couldn't see him, but he was still able to see them. He also improved a lot of his lines as well.
    - Neve Campbell was originally going to say no to the film as she is especially afraid of horror movies. But when hearing her co-star Skeet Ulrich (Billy) from "The Craft" (1996) was going to appear, she agreed. They did both movies back to back that same year.
    - They casted Skeet Ulrich as Billy Loomis and gave him the same kind of hair style cause of how close he looked like to young Johnny Depp in Nightmare on Elm Street who also climbed in through a bedroom window. His last name, Loomis, is a reference to Dr. Loomis in Halloween.
    - Also, after he climbed through her window, the first time "Fear the Reaper" was playing. He climbed through her window to distract her and turned on her stereo to cover up the background noise of Stu kidnapping her dad. If notice he was wearing the same outfit at the end.
    - The news lady that was harassing Sidney "how does it feel to almost being butchered" at the school is Linda Blair from the Exorcist.
    - If you look really closely when Billy was "stabbed" in the bedroom, you can see Stu adding the fake blood onto the knife before wiping it off.
-Casey's comment about Nightmare on Elm Street about how the first was good, but the rest sucked. It's because Wes Craven only did the first one and didn't direct all of the other ones, lol.
-Kenny actually saved Sidney in his literal final moment AFTER his throat got slashed. He pointed to the back and told her "door" so she could crawl out.
    - Ghostface in the bathroom was a prank on Sidney it wasn't either Billy or Stu.
    - Rose McGowan(Tatum) was actually able to fit through the cat door. They had to staple her shirt to the door cause she kept falling out. Also, just before her head got smashed in, she herself added, calling out "mom," and Wes loved it and kept it in cause it gave her last moments of humanity. Rose also picked out her own outfits for her character. The jersey she wore with #10 was also a reference to Johnny Depp in Nightmare on Elm Street.
    - When Billy hit Stu in the head with the phone, it was an accident on Skeets part. The fake blood was so sticky and ended up hitting Matthew Lillard instead of the desk, and his "Oww You hit me with the phone D***" he stayed in character and was his real reaction to it. Wes loved it as well, so he kept it, lol. Matthew also improved most of his kitchen scene with his lines, like with "Houston, we have a problem," "the peer pressure," and the comment about his parents going to be so mad, lol.
    - That WHOLE kitchen scene took about 2 weeks to film because of the amount of high energy that was used as well with all of the fake blood (corn syrup dyed red).
    - Neve Campbell and Matthew Lillard actually started dating while filming Scream and were together for a little while. So that whole "I've always had a thing for you, Sid" was true, lol. He originally auditioned for Billy, but the casting didn't believe that someone like Sidney/Neve would date someone like him, lol. So he ended up getting Stu, and Skeet got Billy cause of his look alike to Johnny Depp. The funny thing is that even though the casting thought that about Matthew, they ended up dating real life anyway 😂 even though they didn't last that long as a couple they are still close friends. The OG cast are still pretty tight to this day (especially Skeet, Matthew, Neve and Jamie *Randy*) and they do A LOT of different conventions over the years together and still do.
    - When Billy got stabbed with the umbrella the 2nd time, it actually hit Skeet, where he had heart surgery when he was younger, so that scream he let out was his real action to the pain.
    - Drew Barrymore was supposed to play Sidney. But she ended up changing her mind and she herself went to Wes with an idea to have her as the open kill cause no one would expect it. Also, it would show if they could kill off a huge star right off the bat it would mean NO ONE was safe. It was the BIGGEST surprise shock effect for the audience cause they assumed she would be the leading character and they played into it with publicity.
-Even though Billy was at Sidneys for the attack. It was Stu who she fought with when he was tripping up the stairs. You can hear ghostface saying "easy" "easy". The next day at the lockers, he was checking his face in Tatums mirror for any bruises, and when Tatum was hitting him with her sucker he says "easy" "easy.
-Billy was always 1 handed with his killing if he had a knife if didn't he resorts to choking except for Tatum he used the opportunity with the garage door. He gave a signal look to Stu at the front door that Tatum was dead. Stu uses both hands when using the knife and resorts to other tactics if he doesn't have a knife like the both times he fought Sidney.
-Stu was the one that called Dewey about the abandoned car and also called Randy about the principal after the whole "I'll be right back." Billy killed the principal so they could use him as a deploy for later that night to get the rest of the guests to leave so the real party could begin.
    - Dewey was originally supposed to die in this one, but Wes Craven and everyone just loved David Arquette when they did a screen view test and how he played his character. They all fell in love with him, so Wes went back and they reshot the ending where he had Dewey do the thumbs up to show the audience that he survived.

Yay! I've been waiting for you to watch this movie. It was totally worth the wait, especially since you needed to watch a lot of the movies being referenced first, to at least understand the "punchlines" haha. Please continue with the series without waiting too long, at least 2 and 3 right off the bat, since they were released shortly after. I watch those almost every Halloween as it's my favorite series of scary movies and the good part is it never disappoints. Even though some entries are better than others, they're all really good movies and have kept consistent quality. They're just so fun to watch and like you said, "rollercoasters". 1 is the OG and the best but I tend to lean towards 2, I feel like it has greater stakes and Wes upped the sequences. 3 is less violent and a little more campy but I find it the most rewatchable somehow, as it feels faster and lighter for an "anyday" watch. If you don't want to do all Screams too soon, do at least these 3 without much of a gap. Then you can watch other movies in your repertoire and then continue with 4 which, as with it's release, is a great return to form after a long hiatus and Craven's last (but he's still at the top of his game as a master of suspense). 5 and 6 introduce new characters while taking the whole story further and are still good after all these years but can be watched later haha. Btw, love your scream, haha you could totally be a "Scream Queen"! I love watching you react and scream to the jumpscares, it's like watching it oneself for the first time.

It’s so sad that Tatum died. She was the best character in my opinion. And what I think is that 1,2,3,4 are really good and 5 is bad and lastly 6 is ok.

Didn’t see anyone answer your question about the Principal’s murder. They killed him in broad daylight in an obvious location, knowing that his body would be discovered and keep the authorities off their scent at the party, as well as knowing all the bros at the party would rush out of there leaving only the key players left

7:25 this was the first clue there were two killers. She knees one in the balls, to get away, and “he” almost immediately catches back up to her. In reality, the guy she kneed was still on the ground holding himself, and the OTHER killer chased her to finish her off. Had it only been the one killer, she would have gotten away/inside.

33:55 not only is he narrating the scene while it mirrors reality, but it goes a step beyond that, into the fourth wall. The ACTOR in the scene he is watching is Jamie Lee Curtis, so he’s saying “Jamie turn around!” Meanwhile the ACTOR portaying this character is named JAMIE Lee Kennedy. Layers upon layers!

PLEASE I BEG OF YOU to watch and react to the sequels to this movie. It’s probably one of the most consistent franchises in regards to timeline and they’re so tastefully done specifically to the formula of this first movie!!!! For the most part❗️❗️

    Hi Kat!
First of all I wanted to congratulate you because your reactions are truly hilarious and engaging.
If one day you intend to react to an Italian movie (I am Italian) allow me to recommend one to you: Deep Red (1975), probably the most iconic and representative of the director Dario Argento, it is a giallo/thriller/horror whose strengths are visual storytelling, suspense and soundtrack.
Obviously, being from almost 50 years ago, the special effects are practically absent but this shouldn't be a problem for you.
It deserves to be seen at least once by anyone who appreciates this genre.
    I wish you the best!

100% worth checking out the sequels. The Scream franchise is regarded as probably the most consistently good franchises in the genre, Every sequel is generally considered at least good, if not great. I think you will have a blast. Ghost Face is different each time, so the whodunnit aspect, as well as the fun meta commentary, are the things that make this franchise so fun to explore and return to.

Hiya Kat, you are the only react channel that I watch. I dunno why. It may be the air punching, the finger wagging/pointing, the screaming at the tv, calling out the real horror of the movie, or the funny commentary? Maybe it's all of the above.
I am working my way thru your back catalogue. It's been extremely fun and it has introduced me to a few movies I have not seen before and are now part of my collection.
A few suggestions for your/our viewing pleasure:
    Army of Darkness
    Nightbreed
    Freddy vs. Jason
    The Crow
    Hellraiser 3
    Near Dark

Billy and Stu standing together looking like one two headed monster must have haunted Sid’s dreams as much as the Ghostface mask holy shit I love that scene so much. Such scary human beings
