  • Olympic Training Camp: Episode 6
    Its the Penultimate episode of the series and the athletes have almost completed a very successful camp.
    Luke and Adam both have some aerobic threshold testing in the pool, whilst Anna accelerates into a big speed session in the short course pool!
    All three athletes hit the gym with a focus on engaging those Explosive fast twitch muscle fibres.
    With One week to go until the AP Race London International our athletes will be ready and raring to go, the question is will you be there to watch them become...

    What is one piece of advice for achieving a time under 30 seconds in the 50m breaststroke?

      Swim fast

      Weights and technique training, and maybe a bit of sprint threshold training like lactic acid sets

      work on frequency, and timing (if your technique is already good), then you need lactate work, power, capacity and peak, together with a base of aerobic capacity and aerobic power ,works a lot in the gym, strength and plyometrics and then tries to transform it in water with strength work in water, weights, and resistance (towers, parachutes, elastic bands)

      Work on explosiveness, especially in the legs, and in the throwing forward of the arms. Returning to the streamline position as fast as possible is important. Pause bench press, close grip bench press, pause squats, box squats, power cleans, hang cleans, heavy pull ups, all will help you, but just getting in the water and training is the most helpful.

      Keep your head down and swim fast 💪 🏊‍♂️

      For breaststroke make sure you keep your head down and shoot straight while reaching kinda like streamline, do I little chest press just enough to keep your butt up at the surface and really focus on small kicks, knees together! And Glide!!!
      For backstroke I would say keep your legs up at the surface and rotate while keeping your head straight.
