For those questioning why I didn’t wear “professional” headphones for this challenge: I did that on purpose because I was more interested in the accuracy of the sounds and how they matched with the visuals, rather than the quality. I wore generic headphones to level the playing field and while I understand that the quality is a big part of what you pay for, I wanted to make the challenge more difficult for myself.
I focused more on the sound they did when the smoothie was poured in the glass. Some were too unrealistic as it sounded more "watery"/"flowy" which isn't exactly the sound of a smoothie. So C became my fave bet, it really captured the sort of thickness/chunkiness sound of a smoothie when you pour it.
I noticed that C was the 1000$ one, because he was the only one who used a different sound for pouring in the smoothie. Everyone else recycled their water pourling sound.
After hearing the "C", it was basically game over for me. No one but Jonas actually cared about how the independent sounds compare to one another in a volume perspective, that was top notch!

The C sounded the best any ways because it’s not only that it feels correct and real it also does not exaggerate reverb and also control how loud some noises sounds like versus others so it is still enjoyable to the ear and sound “aesthetic” enough. Idk I’m not a pro
That contraption you wondered about in the video from #E is a Bialetti Moka Stovetop Espresso maker. They work by using the pressure from boiling water to push the water through a filter with coffee grinds. They make excellent Espresso and all you need is a heating plate.
My uncle is a foley artist... The thing about real life is that real life sounds aren't as rich as the replacements they use. If they used the real sounds the movies would be very disappointing.
Quality does not always cost the most. Which speaks so much for humanity as a whole. There are so many people who do such amazing things, but don't get the credit they deserve and then there's people who are less good and get too much credit. It's really unfair a lot of times.
as a sounddesigner I can say that one could hear that C was the best. How? Super tight low end (=low frequencies) + perfect layering of sounds. I'm also shocked that some didn't put sounds on the animated white drop thing in the intro. Like what? I literally wouldn't pay someone if they did not include such an important sound
Thanks for sharing! After filming this I finally listened with proper headphones and all I could say is WOW I noticed a difference. Can definitely hear the difference in depth and EQ in C.
A few of them missed the droplets at the intro and end, as well as the straw clinking against the glass! So I dismissed those as the higher-tier ones immediately.
This video taught me that liquid foley detail really separates good foley from great. You can tell so easily when the artist is pouring into an empty cup. I would have just bought the frozen watermelon and recorded myself making the smoothie lol
It's the sharpness of your audio ability thingamajig I guess. I notice that those artists who stand out are sharper than an average person on an aspect
For me, they all sound different. I could guess instantly that C was $1000. I guess 9 years listening to ASMR makes my ears easily differentiate the quality of sounds that are almost the same.

The C sounded the best any ways because it’s not only that it feels correct and real it also does not exaggerate reverb and also control how loud some noises sounds like versus others so it is still enjoyable to the ear and sound “aesthetic” enough. Idk I’m not a pro
Agree
yeah! and the way that we heard the sounds fading in before we would see what was making them, like with the blender.
Agree
D and E in my opinion were elite
I agree I knew C and A were for sure the best and worst.
'D' was the best output . If you listen closely he even edited Environment Ambience for the last shot with birds chirping. I would vote him the best.
and the rusty blade part! It kinda squeaked when blades started to rotate. I really liked that.
I taugh he was the 1000$ one. My favorite too, super realistic.
But I didn’t like that the smoothie sounded like water so liquid
I agree. I thought it’d be the most expensive.
Plus the lemonade sounds? So good
That contraption you wondered about in the video from #E is a Bialetti Moka Stovetop Espresso maker. They work by using the pressure from boiling water to push the water through a filter with coffee grinds. They make excellent Espresso and all you need is a heating plate.
I'm amazed that you got them all wrong 😂

My uncle is a foley artist... The thing about real life is that real life sounds aren't as rich as the replacements they use. If they used the real sounds the movies would be very disappointing.

Quality does not always cost the most. Which speaks so much for humanity as a whole. There are so many people who do such amazing things, but don't get the credit they deserve and then there's people who are less good and get too much credit. It's really unfair a lot of times.

A moka? It looks like a percolator to me.
this guy just finessed us into watching an ad for 10 minutes
now that is big brain advertising
as a sounddesigner I can say that one could hear that C was the best.
Especially with the added reverb to every audio clip. It really makes the sounds flow into each other
May i know which one is the animated white drop thing in the intro? Is it the glass rolling
@@nuramanina7224 yeah I think so
A few of them missed the droplets at the intro and end, as well as the straw clinking against the glass! So I dismissed those as the higher-tier ones immediately.

This video taught me that liquid foley detail really separates good foley from great. You can tell so easily when the artist is pouring into an empty cup. I would have just bought the frozen watermelon and recorded myself making the smoothie lol
Yes, but you have to be careful doing foley cus often times the actual thing doesn't make the sound you want, even if that sounds odd 😂
I liked B the most! (wormholesound) the epic thud when the bag hits the table, and the only one that chose to leave the straw silent. great vid btw!
Higher price doesn’t always mean higher quality
Yes
yup!
Me who knows nothing about sounds: no you’re wrong C is definitely $1000 and E $400
Honestly though, E just sounds better overall and especially for the price point. But jokes on us, this video was just an ad in disguise.
Something is wrong with me: they all sound almost identical
Innit lmao
It's the sharpness of your audio ability thingamajig I guess. I notice that those artists who stand out are sharper than an average person on an aspect
yeah
Except the 4 th one
For me, they all sound different. I could guess instantly that C was $1000.
I guess 9 years listening to ASMR makes my ears easily differentiate the quality of sounds that are almost the same.
The “weird construption” Marko used for that sound is a “Moka” and that’s a thing used in Italy to make coffee
As an Italian, the fact that the Italian artist used a moka for his foley makes me proud

I actually think that E sounded the best, especially with the blending, the sound matched the liquidy texture much better, and also transitioned between clips better, in my opinion,,,, not an audio engineer, but I do a lot of recording as a vocal performance major and when getting sound samples I use in producing songs

The fact that you listened to everyone's work with Apple earphones and not even decent headphones says how much you know about audio
so basically the guy who asked $ 40 does such a great job that he could raise the prices. And that at 13:35 is a moka. In Italy we use it to make espresso coffee xD
To be precise, "espresso" is a term used specifically for a coffee machine that uses pressurized air.
So a "moka" is not making espresso coffee.
@@Enroxxx what are you talking about? "caffè espresso" is a type of coffee that we have in italy 🤨 a very very short coffee (look on the internet). And a moka do espresso coffee. EDIT: at home we are using moka to do espresso because we don't have those fancy coffee machine that you find in a bar
@@BimbaElis you cannot do an "espresso" with a moka, you are a disgrace as an Italian if you don't know that 😂
@@Enroxxx I know they are two different things, but very often we use the term espresso vulgarly even when we make a ristretto coffee with the moka. If you don't live here you can't understand our customs
@@BimbaElis sorry but that is just blasphemy!!!
Espresso refers to the process, you can do a "ristretto", a "lungo" etc with an espresso maker, it doesn't describe the "quantity", it describes the process.
With a moka, you cannot do an "espresso", is like saying "ho fatto l'arrosto con la padella sul gas" 😂
