@PixelDan Actually, you can get the eyes to stay in place. Push the lever all the way down then pull up on the eyes so they lock in place. The bottom edge of the eye shafts can sit right on the rim of the eye socket and keep them in place. You just have to push the bottom of that shaft back in to retract the eyes again.
I think the way they did the eyes was absolutely the right choice. Extension pieces and swappable parts are never an adequate replacement for working features. You can pose him with the eyes up by simply placing a paper clip in the slot to hold the lever in place, I do that constantly and it hasn't damaged it at all.
Mattel should've included a peg of sorts you'd plug into the same port housing the lever so we don't have to use tape or something which will leave residue on the figure.
I actually prefer the new action feature, it feels more of an action than just a movable piece. Perfect upgrade of the original figure. Swappable parts take the fun out of the proper features, making these more like statues than toys
Easily one of the best figures in the line, and a massive upgrade to the vintage figure. I hope Mattel make the skinnier Filmation version with the yellow eyes at some point down the road too.
Mantenna is definitely in my top 5 favorite Origins figures from 2022. I got him from BBTS also. I found one US version hanging on the peg at Target and I was so excited to have my mint on card version and the bubble was cracked. I haven't seen any others since then. Talk about a major bummer. Anyhow, great review as always Dan. Your enthusiasm always makes these reviews better than others I've seen.
@@meg-k-waldren except that on BBTS they literally list those versions as multi-language packaging. Even Mantenna, which means Dan just wasn't paying attention.
So after receiving this wave from BBTS I switched my pre-orders to Entertainment Earth. I still use BBTS for other lines but EE has, so far anyways, had the localized packaging for Origins new releases, though I am still waiting on this wave to show up there.
Entertainment Earth is WAY better than BigBadToyStore. EE is free shipping and Retro Play version Motu Origins while BBTS is $4 shipping and bi-lingual Motu Origins versions and possibly even knock-offs.
MY MAN! (Tenna)! Imo this is an example of the line at its best. Fantastic update of the vintage boi and the extra legs were just perfect. One of my favourite MOTU Origins figures so far.
The eyes actually do stay extended out. Just pull them manually once they are extended, you will hear a slight click and then you can display him with the eyes popped out.
Hi Dan, the eyes do stay up. Simply hold down the lever on the back of the head and pull the eyes upward. You'll hear a click sound and they stay up. Simply push them back down again to reset.
haha this is so awesome. I was obsessed with MOTU from 1982 to 1985 (age 8 to 11). I just ordered King Randor & the Sorceress because by the time those were originally released in 1987 i'd lost interest in the series and the action figures so i never got them.
I didn’t even think to leave the eyes bugging out, I was just impressed with how cool the figure was overall and 4 legs! You can stick some sticky tak under the leaver, that should keep the eyes out.
FYI, you actually can lock his eyes in an extended position. Just press the lever, pull the eyes out slightly, and they will stay in place. Simply push them back in to return to normal.
I'm fine with the updated action feature, but what's keeping me from pulling the trigger is the overly dark blue plastic they used for his limbs. It borders on black. Definitely should have been a lighter shade of blue, like the vintage figure. Very puzzled as to why they changed the color.
The action features spring function helps pop the eyes in and out faster. This would’ve been a good deluxe if it included the older style pelvis with fused legs since it has such an iconic silhouette and classic feel Also folks shouldn’t keep the crossbows latched because it looses its ability to pop forward … they remain springy if you only latch it when you want to “release” it for the action feature. Plus I miss the uniquely sculpted crossbows for each horde character
I got Mantenna and Leech figures when I was 4 but I couldn't read of course so I called them "Pop-out eyeballs" and Sucky-lips" instead of their real names.
Surprised from the comparison time that the Origins version is so much darker than the original - generally Origins have been super brightly coloured compared to the originals. With regard to the eyes, I'm glad they're an action feature rather than separate pieces I'd probably lose; however, I don't understand why they needed to have a spring-return. If the springy bit hadn't been included, the eyes would have stayed up.
If only Dan had the zest for Origins as he did for Classics haha spend more time on the Origins vids Dan! Who knows if we'll ever see anything like this again in our lifetimes.
I agree…I’m surprised that he seems less than enthused with the Origins line. I personally think it’s the best line since vintage and I doubt we will see anything like it in our lifetimes again
In regards to displaying figure with eyes popping out, I just wedged half a toothpick (painted red) in the slot where the lever is and this kept the eyes bulging out. No damage to the figure, and if you want to pop the eyes back in just remove the pick. Problem solved.
No need to do that, just pull each eye manually when they are extended out, you will hear a slight click and they then lock into place in the extended position
I think the action feature could’ve been fixed if they had a J shaped notch (hard to explain, if you know what I’m talking about you know.) to lock the eyes in place.
Mattel probably went with the action feature because this is a line at mass retail meaning they can't do the swapable eyes because that would be a choking hazard.
Hope you’ve been well, Dan! Really been missing the TMNT content and was wondering if there are plans for future Turtles related reviews soon. Take care!! :)
I remembered that vintage figure freaked me out when I was a kid, his hideous face especially his creepy eyes got me frighten, when I saw it at the mall, I was afraid to go near the MOTU shelf bcoz of that figure... (Also I remembered my mom threatened me that if I'm being naughty, she'll buy that figure and place next to me when I'm sleeping, I cried say 'i don't want, I don't want', lol) now I see this origins figure is awesome, love his four articulated legs.... Ya know, if I have Webstor origin figure, I would have swapped his legs with Mantenna's, to make it more spider like....
Distribution on this wave and the new ones are terrible as usual. I have 2 figures of wave9 and 10 and need 2 from each lol. Can't wait to get these sometime in 2023.
Mattel should've included a peg of sorts you'd plug into the same port housing the head lever. This way you can pose him eyes out or not at your discretion. Simple filx. Lazy Mattel.
If there's one figure I have got to add to my collection this year, it's the MOTU Classics Mantenna (the cool gnarly one, not the Funimation one). It is awesome they fixed the legs on the Origins.
Excellent action feature. Having to stick in the eyeballs would be rubbish just like Kobra Khan's spray and Rattlors neck. That should be left for classics.
I think this is one of the best Origins figures so far. He happens to be my Son’s second favorite. The first on his list is Clawful. The action features definitely elevates these figures.

I co-sign this.
You don't need to. Just pull the eyes out a bit and they lock into place.
@@Rocket1377 oh, neat. I didn't realize that. That's even better
You could always put a little piece of tape on the lever to keep the eyes popped.
Or Blue Tack. (Just some putty or play doh like substance)
Mattel should've included a peg of sorts you'd plug into the same port housing the lever so we don't have to use tape or something which will leave residue on the figure.

Using BBTS for Motu origins is begging for bi-lingual versions.
@@meg-k-waldren except that on BBTS they literally list those versions as multi-language packaging. Even Mantenna, which means Dan just wasn't paying attention.
I loved Mantenna when I was a kid. Mantenna was either my first or second He Man toy, Buzz Off was the other of the first 2 I owned.
Damn! That Mantenna is gonna get me too start buying Origins. My favourite figure as a kid done just so well in the new style
If you push the lever down and pull the eyes up, they lock in place, if you want them back down you just push the eye stalks back down.
I got all international figures from BBTS as well
So after receiving this wave from BBTS I switched my pre-orders to Entertainment Earth. I still use BBTS for other lines but EE has, so far anyways, had the localized packaging for Origins new releases, though I am still waiting on this wave to show up there.

BBTS does not send knockoffs
Instant buy. This is how you do an update. It still looks like it's right out of the eighties
MY MAN! (Tenna)!

Just got this guy on sale at Meijer for $13! This guy is such a riot! So happy to have him.
Hi Dan, the eyes do stay up. Simply hold down the lever on the back of the head and pull the eyes upward. You'll hear a click sound and they stay up. Simply push them back down again to reset.
Why is the blue so dark? Usually all the colors of the origins figures are very bright.
haha this is so awesome. I was obsessed with MOTU from 1982 to 1985 (age 8 to 11). I just ordered King Randor & the Sorceress because by the time those were originally released in 1987 i'd lost interest in the series and the action figures so i never got them.
The lack of blue isn't great and seems like cheaping out with less paintwork required.
This Mantenna figure glows like crazy under blacklight !!!
I didn’t even think to leave the eyes bugging out, I was just impressed with how cool the figure was overall and 4 legs! You can stick some sticky tak under the leaver, that should keep the eyes out.
My first and favorite figure!!since 1980’s
I agree about the eyes. I think his blue paint is too dark also. He's only okay to me but I appreciate the extra legs.
I haven’t found any new motu origins figures in months. I’m not happy about having to get them online. I really need mantenna
The legs are such a great improvement over the vintage figure indeed
I remember this figure as a kid. Good stuff
FYI, you actually can lock his eyes in an extended position. Just press the lever, pull the eyes out slightly, and they will stay in place. Simply push them back in to return to normal.
Hi put a small elastic clear band from neck peg to lever 👍🏼 eyes stay bugged out and can’t really see clear mini band 😉
Love this figure. I think Mattel did a good job with this one. I got two of him.
You can pose with the eyes sticking out, just put a sticky tape on the lever to prevent it coming out.
I'm fine with the updated action feature, but what's keeping me from pulling the trigger is the overly dark blue plastic they used for his limbs. It borders on black. Definitely should have been a lighter shade of blue, like the vintage figure. Very puzzled as to why they changed the color.
We did this to make a difference to vintage and classics.
Greetings Mattel
Awesome review
I pre-ordered mine from Big Bad Toy Store.
I love that he actually has four legs.
BBTS means getting the bi-lingual versions of MOTU Origins figures.
I already have him and I love the action feature! Great review.
Good point on the eyes. Now we have to tape down the eyes to keep them bulging 👀
The action features spring function helps pop the eyes in and out faster.

It's slightly darker, not much of a difference.
I love Roboto but this may be my new favorite Origins figures.
I like to think of this guy as the Peter Pettigrew of the horde, as in he stays loyal because he’s too afraid of what happens if he doesn’t
In regards to displaying figure with eyes popping out, I just wedged half a toothpick (painted red) in the slot where the lever is and this kept the eyes bulging out. No damage to the figure, and if you want to pop the eyes back in just remove the pick. Problem solved.

I love this version of him!
You forgot to do a comparison pic between Origins and Classics Mantenna. Whomp Whomp
If you pull on the eyes the will lock into a popped out position.
Mattel probably went with the action feature because this is a line at mass retail meaning they can't do the swapable eyes because that would be a choking hazard.
One of my favorite child hood toys
I got ordered mine from Entertainment Earth. Free shipping and Retro Play version not bi-lingual.
Still looking for one!
Did you ever the anniversary four pack and the Fakear with the robotic cat?
Hope you’ve been well, Dan! Really been missing the TMNT content and was wondering if there are plans for future Turtles related reviews soon. Take care!! :)
I got one from Target for 10.99 a week before Christmas, it was weird because all other characters were 17.99
4 legs wonder if that might get reused for modulok?
I like the arms on the vintage better
I would have liked it better if it had an alternate interchangeable head whose eyes permanently stuck out.
And even clip-on eye beams.
I could've sworn this video was way older than 3 weeks 😳
Awesome toys collection
Origins Mantenna is in my top five of the whole line. Nothing much else to say.
Did Scott Neitlich pay you for that removable part "action" feature suggestion?
The only thing he called an action feature is the eye lever, which it is.
I remembered that vintage figure freaked me out when I was a kid, his hideous face especially his creepy eyes got me frighten, when I saw it at the mall, I was afraid to go near the MOTU shelf bcoz of that figure... im getting this one
In that wave, Mantenna was the biggest pain in the butt to find. Not that this is the best character but definitely the weirdest.
What about the floppy ears?
Love it!
Distribution on this wave and the new ones are terrible as usual. I have 2 figures of wave9 and 10 and need 2 from each lol. Can't wait to get these sometime in 2023.
And now...stare Challenge!
I really like the action feature broo It allows me to play hahahaha 😉✌🏻
I just put some tighly rolled cardboard wedged in the back of the head so the eyes stay out.
3d print a piece that friction fits into the slot so when the eyes are out, it plugs the hole, problem solved.
Mattel should've included a peg of sorts you'd plug into the same port housing the head lever. This way you can pose him eyes out or not at your discretion. Simple filx. Lazy Mattel.
Theres a way to lock it. Essentially pulling the eyes out till they reach the tabs and leaving them there
Figure is ok but don't like the colour..too dark blue, seems black ...why change colours from original...
If there's one figure I have got to add to my collection this year, it's the MOTU Classics Mantenna (the cool gnarly one, not the Funimation one). It is awesome they fixed the legs on the Origins.
Neat
🤘😎
Don't like the lever on the back of his head. I would have prefered a solution like with Kobra Kahn.
Excellent action feature. Having to stick in the eyeballs would be rubbish just like Kobra Khan's spray and Rattlors neck. That should be left for classics.
hola
When are they gonna make his face look like the actual she-ra cartoon? He looks great though. He looks exactly like the Vintage figure.
I think this is one of the best Origins figures so far. He happens to be my Son’s second favorite. The first on his list is Clawful. The action features definitely elevates these figures.
I got mantenna for christmas.
