It really is the same concept as the 5th gen Mustangs, giving you the look and feel of the OG with modern stylistic and mechanical improvements. Might seem like a weird metaphor if you're not into cars, but it makes a lot of sense to me.
Mattel realized Masters has one of the most loyal fandoms ever, one which was eagerly awaiting for something to bridge the generation gap and help us old curmudgeons introduce the brand to actual kids. I can not wait for it to hit full retail, good thing there is some time to save money.
I know I'm in the minority, but the orginal toyline from the 80s is still my favorite. I loved the the twisting punch action feature most of the figures had.
I would love to see Mattel sell an alternate vintage head and an alternate right boot with the dagger in the future. Exchangeable parts open so many possibilities.
@@andrewquick4176 I didn't like being stuck with either half a sword looking ugly on one side or a full sword that's half purple and too thick for He-man to hold well.
My kid is super excited about getting these! He has only had vintage and checked out my classics. I feel like this is a line that he and I can share the joy and play together.
My 7 year old loves certain old school shows I watched as a kid, but the one I really wanted him to give a chance was Mr Rogers Neighborhood and he just couldn’t get into it. Made me sad actually.
Great review Dan! Looking forward to at least getting the core group. Glad I wasn't the only one that disliked the half sword gimmick. You would think by now they would have a different/better way to incorporate that. The original figures definitely had a little more grit to them. These aren't perfect, but they're not horrible either.
I just got mine in Pittsburgh, and you nailed it, man: that '82 figure is perfect. The Origins line definitely pushes my nostalgia button, but I'm going to track down a vintage He-Man. What a time to be alive. Until next time...
I agree with you about the half sword, even as a kid was not a fan. Bummed out that they did not include a full sword. And if I remember correctly the 80's line of toys when you combined both power swords did the same thing. Keeping it real, it guess. LOL. Nice review. I am trying to get a hold of these figures but have not had any luck off Walmart's site.
The original 80s line wasn’t the most proportionate or had the best face molds, but it was what it was back then and we loved it regardless, one would figure that by now the licence-holders should’ve corrected those tidbits and make a really cool wave of retro-inspired figures, but no. The head sculpt is unforgivable, so far the best figure is the Club Grayskull Filmation-style He-Man, now THAT is how you update something as iconic as the MOTU line.
It took 5 months from the time this video dropped for my local Wal-Mart to get these figures, but the wait was worth it. I bought He-Man, Skeletor and Battle Cat today. It's like I'm four years old again. LOL
The way these things sell, we are probably getting every figure made back then! they will be hard to find because most of these Walmart's are a pain to find anything you like.
It depends on how well the new toon series goes over. If it catches on then the figures will sell. Personally I don't really see this line appealing to today's generation of kids, but who knows.
I'm thrilled, but man is it taking forever for these to reach customers. Released as exclusives, then to reviewers, but, not to sound like a big baby, when will we regular dudes be able to get them? That half sword is indeed a bummer. Great review, man.
Very Cool! I might have to collect these. That face isn't the best but it might grow on me. I am excited to see the classic style with the articulation I never had when I was a kid.
This is what I've been waiting for Pixel Dan. I think I'm more excited about seeing the review videos from you than having the actual figures. You have a way of bringing out the magic of these toy lines and I am looking forward to going on this journey with you on these new figures. I did get these figures at a higher price but it was worth it to have them in my possession early. I will say I'm concerned at the Walmart exclusive for 2020 because if the NECA Casey / Raphael 2 pack online sellout debacle is any indication, we'll be lucky to see these figures even make it to store shelves.
And man I can’t freaking wait. Every time I go to Walmart I take my 7 year old to have a reason to wander into the toy isle to look for these just in case an early figure slipped onto the racks.
It will be interesting to see how well this line does. It's nice seeing MOTU back in stores and I hope it catches on but I can't see kids being interested. Not without a movie or even cartoon. Adult collectors have their vintage collection for nostalgia and classics for modern articulation and detailing not to mention inclusiveness of characters from all corners of the franchise. This line being a strange middle ground doesn't really offer anything new.
@unclassified Are you referring to the classics line or the 200x line? Personally I like the 200x line a lot and loved the story progression of the series but apparently a lot of folks didnt like the character redesigns. I'm working on building up my collection of them via ebay. Still have to build my classics line too. Not too impressed with this latest edition but will still collect them in hopes that it develops further.
MOTU didn't need a cartoon to be successful in 1982, it was a huge success right from the beginning. I didn't even like the 1983 cartoon that much as a kid. The minicomics that came with the toys told me everything I needed to know, as they explained the basic premise and who the characters were. We then used our imagination to create our own adventures. Today's kids are no different.
@@Rocket1377 Not sure I fully agree with that. I was one of those kids that discovered MOTU prior to the cartoon but times were different then. There weren't many toys like it at the time. Video games were still in their infancy and the internet didn't exist. Toy sales across the board today are nothing like they were in the 80s when there was little else to compete with. I haven't looked into it much but I can't think of a current successful character-centric toy line today that isn't based on a popular tv show, game or book. Will this MOTU revamp be enough to distract your 8 year old from Fortnite to the satisfaction of Mattel's profits, or will it wind up being a short-lived nostalgia piece? Granted Fortnite is not really a franchise targeted at 8 year olds - or is it? It does have its own action figure line at Walmart that this MOTU line will be competing with. I think there needs to be something more significant going on with it to catch kids interests. Also don't forget the major time difference. Kids that loved original MOTU are grandparents today. Let that sink in.
@@Rocket1377 The cartoon was a huge part of the success of the toyline. Todays kids are pretty different, that's why toy sales are down. Especially of action figures.
@unclassified I agree the Classics line is the best designed. But they put more effort into that I suspect because it was targeted at adult collectors. I'd almost forgotten the commemorative re-releases they did just prior (or maybe even concurrent to) the 200x line. I don't recall there being that many in that line tho, just the 8 or so core figures. But then there's the club grayskull line, which kind of followed the classics line and seems a bit less detailed (not sure if its actually considered part of the classics), then the super7 retro line. So this would technically be the 7th or possibly 8th(?) iteration.
Great review. The one thing I notice nobody mentioning when comparing these to the vintage figures, the sword halves for He-Man and Skeletor have been switched. By that, I mean the vintage He-Man held his sword with the curved part of the handle facing his palm. Now it's the opposite. For Skeletor, the curved portion of his sword's handle would face away from his palm.
Dan it was your videos that got me buying the MOTU Classic line. Now I'll be following you into this new era of MOTU toys begins. I can't wait to get my hands on them.
I just got this bad boy yesterday. Not even gonna complain about the head sculpt like a lot of people do, I think it's totally fine for what it is. Also, fun fact, the harness and weapons from the 200X He-Man fit on him perfectly. I had the sword and harness from my childhood 200X He-Man lying around, and this guy is able to wear the harness and hold the sword with no problems. The 200X sword looks a little big on him, but I think it's fine, especially since the sword handle is just the right size to fit in his hand.
As someone who doesn't have any attachment to the vintage stuff being negative 15 when it came out, and someone who doesn't collect many human action figures at all I think the head sculpt looks fine, or at least on par with what I have seen from that vintage line. I genuinely think this looks like a fun figure!
@@Pixel-dan I guess it didn't sell too well. I personally think the sculpts on Savage World line are a bit too childish, I have a feeling that it'd be handled better by Super 7.

A couple weeks ago Walmart added he man and skeletor for a very short time and all the good scalpers got them some to sell, some jerk has 20 skeleton's on ebay and has already sold 12 of them, if Mattel and Wal mart continue this, this line will be over quickly, because a lot of people are not paying scalpers, hopefully that was just a test run to see the interest
Yeah I found He-Man today and skeletor. But there weren’t many left. There also weren’t any GvK stuff except for mega kong. I got He-man. The scalpers have been everywhere scalping everything it’s getting annoying.
I wish they’d continued with the classics & Super7. But I appreciate they are going a mass market appeal. I’ve ordered them all, but He-Man is the one I’m least excited about. Head sculpt, half sword bit rubbish!
I just got this and Battle Cat. I'm still in awe that I finally found them both and that we're getting He-Man toys in the stores in the 21st century. I have a question. What's with the slit in the back of the packaging?
I don’t like how misleading the photos were with his power sword and painted weapons. I love the combining feature was retained but they shoulda had a solid sword too.
Hey buddy you have spoken with Mattel people, so what's the deal, are they making these so everybody who wants them can get them to enjoy? Or are they gonna make them hard to find so scalpers can get them all to list on ebay? I planned on buying them all, but if there gonna be impossible to find I'm out, not paying one cent over retail
I recently bought the "origins" figures (heman and skeletor). However my packaging looks a lot different and the figures colours look like that San Diego one. Also it has the 1980's headsculpt. So it makes me wonder if there was an update to the line with "better" parts and paint.
As a kid I also always wanted full Power Swords He-Man and Skeletor. I did however have the light up Power Sword, which was just a flashlight, and Skeletor's dress up armor.
I got lucky today. I found the whole wave this morning and got one of each. I still haven't found Battlecat and the Skysled with Prince Adam. These go well with the Masters of the WWE.
I think we need to keep in mind that though these are going to purchased by us adults, you all know this line is going to marketed towards kids or parents who had these figures as a kid who are passing their love for MoTU to there youngins. I see a lot of attacks on the figures head that to me is not the best but when I thought about it its "gimmick" is to be a modern figure with an old school 80s figure look. I didn't collect the Classics or Super 7 figures but I had some of the originals as a kid. My son is 8 and knows about He-Man from watching it on Netflix and for him as long as it poses like a Legend DBZ or even the Spin Masters Batman figs he's all over it and wants them all! To each its all but in short- as a dad and a collector I dig em.
Just got him, Skeletor and Battle Cat yesterday and they are great. Worth the wait after seeing the two pack from last year, and to top it all off, watching the review on this channel just feels right lol
I have the POWERRRR!!!!!! This hit a soft spot for me! I used to have just about every MOTU as a kid. Mom threw most of my collection when I went to college. I think I am going to collect these!
Hi, It's great that Mattel have made a more updated versions, all the joints are great, and also the feature's, wonder if castle grayskull will make a new comeback? :)
I posted this in another video but wanted to say it here. Would LOVE to get MOTU origins for all the MOTUC figures. But my top picks would odd enough be King Grayskull and Galactic adventures he-man..........The first because i think the cape and harness would be cool accessories, and the 2nd i think would be fun for a different head/weapon set then what we are used to, or a chance for them to try different body molds.
Looking forward to snagging these soon. It's a shame that, if they didn't want to do a "full" sword, that they didn't include the other half in silver to combine and make a full one, since they already had the mold for the Skeletor figure. I imagine it's a cost thing, but it would have been a nice solution.
I really think saying that the removable parts are an "action feature" is a stretch. Marvel legends don't have "action figures" because you can swap out their heads and such. I think it's more likely that it's designed that way for easier swapping of parts by Mattel
I completely agree with you about the half-sword, fun idea, but in practice I always hated it. Skeletor always got his main weapon from the cartoon (ram staff) why can't He-Man have his full main weapon??? maybe Skeletor could have the half sword and He-Man could have both a full (for poses) and a half....
YAY!!! Half sword FTW! Too bad they seem to keep the Prince Adam story as shown in that minicomic. Barbarian beginnings He-Man 4 Life! :D And before i get slammed, i like both of those storylines!!! .. I just prefer what they retconned to be "Oo-Larr".
@@Beedo_Sookcool right, I was interested and only really wanted to get the characters from the first 4 mini comics but it was going to be nearly $1000 just for that!
As a new MOTU fan who looked at Classics and just could not justify the cost based on liking the designs and some of the narrative concepts alone, but these look like really good figures for the money and I am absolutely in for wave one.
Happy to see minicomics come back, but I wish it was longer. It would also be nice if a future Prince Adam figure features the other half of the Power Sword in the proper color so whatever lore you prefer you can set up.
agree but remember these are for kids...just like it was originally...it's awesome....u want collectible then try to pay scalper price for the classics line.
Ordered the power con set Lords of Power. Mostly because after that I just can’t add anymore to my collection do to the limit of space. So one big display set and like 3 spots open for MOTU classics and I’m done!
Liked and subbed. And honestly I am sold. I am grabbing this wave up forsure. Mattel has surprised me yet again. I mean seriously, I am a huge Marvel Legends mark but this year was nothing but duds. 6 maybe 7 figures out of the entire 2020 line lol then Mattel does this. I hope they start doing rereleases of Mossman and that big freakin dragon lol
Damn wish it kept the boot knife. And the better deco on the boots. And I agree they should have whole power swords included as well. Wonder why they skimped on the detail on the battle ax
So you can't remove the calves from the knee joints or the legs from the torso? I would like a whole sword too. Maybe they'll release an Origins Weapons Pak with a silver and purple sword like Prince Adam has.
I don't love the head, but I like it. I just wish the hair was darker like the original. Still, I'm digging the figure as a white and love some of the other stuff we've seen. I already have all the WWE ones and can't wait to get these. :)
Just got he-man and skelator. Growing up with gen x parents i am very familiar with heman. I really like heman alot and happu to finally have 2 of my own to play with... At 18... Dont judge me
Hopefully in the future they might bring more accessories and swaps for the figures in the line. I’d really like to see a new full power sword and head moulds like from the exclusive release that’s more accurate to that 80s style! 🙏
I think the WWEternia figures really helped sell me on this line. That crossover aspect is just so fun. I’ve picked up a lot of those so it only make sense to bring He-Man and the gang into the ring. Great review, Dan
No idea. He-Man and Skeletor randomly showed up and sold out instantly, before people really even knew they were there. Hoping the presence is bigger this Fall.
He-man's head sculpt looks like Sean Penn from Fast Times at Ridgemont High.

Very cool. I was kind of hyped for this figure. The lack of the original head will keep me from getting it
I just got this and Battle Cat. I'm still in awe that I finally found them both and that we're getting He-Man toys in the stores in the 21st century. I have a question. What's with the slit in the back of the packaging?
JRock424 excellent! I got battle cat today. Got he man a month ago
I see some heavy modding and painting on these! An artist's dream.
They have massive stock here
No stock in Australia yet
Yeah where I’m at am lucky if I can find he man
In Australia here and still waiting mid 2021.. Not holding my breath.
I recently bought the "origins" figures (heman and skeletor). However my packaging looks a lot different and the figures colours look like that San Diego one. Also it has the 1980's headsculpt. So it makes me wonder if there was an update to the line with "better" parts and paint.
Hi. Also now i see my 2 figures both have full swords and not the half swords. And also they have the more detail sculpted bodies.
I was going to skip these, but I think I'll pick them up instead. Thanks Dan.
No word on Castle Grayskull yet, but it's been heavily rumored.
@@Pixel-dan Hey, Great to hear about a rumor :)
Sold Out on Walmart’s web, and now going for $59.99 each or more on secondary market.
Thank you Pixel Dan for these amazing reviews. Please never stop. Cheers!!
The axe from the retail release looks smaller to me compared to the comic-con version.
Prime92 Of course my friend. They do this just to justify the "exclusivity" of the comic con version. But is the same 💩
Great review, Dan! I'll be on the lookout for He-Man and the others when they're released, so thanks for that info. Awesome poses at the end, btw!
I'm mourning the vintage head... but great to still have MOTU available... and this time it's affordable!
Looking forward to snagging these soon. It's a shame that, if they didn't want to do a "full" sword, that they didn't include the other half in silver to combine and make a full one, since they already had the mold for the Skeletor figure. I imagine it's a cost thing, but it would have been a nice solution.
We need to see him with the vintage vehicles and playsets.
Mattel should show Super 7 how to make tight joints.
didn't think I'd want these but I found a battle cat today and now need a heman and skeletor, atleast
I really think saying that the removable parts are an "action feature" is a stretch. Marvel legends don't have "action figures" because you can swap out their heads and such. I think it's more likely that it's designed that way for easier swapping of parts by Mattel
Playmates should give the vintage TMNT figures the same treatment.
For kids to be involved, they need to make some cool commercials.
They actually need to stock them
ExtremeSega A yea no Walmart’s are in stock, seeing of how mad and of how many people want them, they will probably do a full release.
@@guardian6975 I hope your right I really do
The knee is on a ball joint and can move in all directions, you know, just like a real human knee.
...without ligaments.
If it wasn't for that horrible head sculpt, I'd be excited about this new line.
Same here. His face is the only thing not really working with this figure.
True
They should have done a head similar to the one made by Super 7 for they vintage He Man if they wanted a more Filmation hairstyle
Same thing for Skeletor, too. These are an easy pass for me.
I'm getting this later on today! Can't wait!
YAY!!! Half sword FTW!
Too bad they seem to keep the Prince Adam story as shown in that minicomic. Barbarian beginnings He-Man 4 Life! :D
And before i get slammed, i like both of those storylines!!! .. I just prefer what they retconned to be "Oo-Larr".
Im still sad Motu classics ended. My favorite toy line. 😥
I agree completely. I hope it makes a comeback in a couple of years. Y'know, once we've managed to save up some money. 😉
And I was too late to the game. Way too expensive now.
@@Spongemonkey26 Oh, yeah. I'm still short on a few items, and they are OBSCENELY overpriced, and only about a year old!
@@Beedo_Sookcool right, I was interested and only really wanted to get the characters from the first 4 mini comics but it was going to be nearly $1000 just for that!
I manage to collect like 15 of them I'll never sell them either. I check daily for good pricing but its rare
Great work as always Pixel Dan!
I get my one today from amazon. I let him stay in the package because I have the original one from the 80ies.
Saw a ton of em at my local Walmart a whole rack of every character I didn’t pick one up but I’ll definitely be getting he-man and skeletor
How deep into the character lineup are they gonna go? Will we get guys like Trap-Jaw & Man-E-Faces?
Yes
I agree with some of the comments, the head sculpt is terrible. The knees are ugly. Very disappointed
Agreed on the head sculpt, but the knees don't look that bad ... compared to Origins Teela and Evil-Lyn, which look hideous.
The head is a million times better than the original 1980s Heman which was just a piece of rubber wit eyes
@@Emolga6274 Ow! You're hurting me!
Well you do make a valid point.
agree but remember these are for kids...just like it was originally...it's awesome....u want collectible then try to pay scalper price for the classics line.
@Pixel Dan where do you get these ?
Ordered the power con set Lords of Power. Mostly because after that I just can’t add anymore to my collection do to the limit of space. So one big display set and like 3 spots open for MOTU classics and I’m done!
Dan you’re right it doesn’t say origins on the front of the package but on the back in the description it does
Am I the only one who thinks this He-Man looks like Sean Penn as Spicoli in Fast Times at Ridgemont High?
Liked and subbed. And honestly I am sold. I am grabbing this wave up forsure. Mattel has surprised me yet again. I mean seriously, I am a huge Marvel Legends mark but this year was nothing but duds. 6 maybe 7 figures out of the entire 2020 line lol then Mattel does this. I hope they start doing rereleases of Mossman and that big freakin dragon lol
I found Skeletor at Wal-Mart
Already imagining where I’m gonna apply my metallic paints!
Pixel Dan needs a figure considering how much he loves MOTU.
He-Dan defender of the toy isle
Why aren't these available for purchase on Walmart.com?
No idea. He-Man and Skeletor randomly showed up and sold out instantly, before people really even knew they were there. Hoping the presence is bigger this Fall.
Scalpers, man !
