I was just talking to my husband about how we should hack our Malm dressers we've had since before we even met (it's been 7+ years...) and this is exactly what we decided on. Thanks for this easy guide!
IKNOW this video is from 5 years ago but this is literally the best handle installation instructions video I’ve ever seen. Like the on-paper demonstration I’m so glad that I found this video before I started on something
Well, I’m here after watching your 1,000,000 special video! After seeing that video I hade to check this one out! Good work guys, you have come such a long way! 💪🏼😃🥰
Alternate for locating drawer pulls. Put a 8" piece of blue tape over the draw front. Measure and mark the center, measure 1/2 hole center distance either way
+Mr. Olkan thank you! It really does make a big difference, every time we see it we're glad we made the upgrade. Thank you for subscribing!! We really appreciate it!
This video was uploaded in 2017 my daughter and i are watching in 2021, not a lot has changed Evan and Katelyn are still goofy as heck! lol How ever my daughter was disappointed that this video did not have jubi in it lol (she's 4 ). My " small Lady" has been wanting a space jube shirt for a while, ill probably order one for her one once i have money, 2020 and 2021 have not been good years for me, but love the content. It's channels like this that really keep me going thank you Katelyn and Even.
Had to go back to the origin story. This is great! I don’t have IKEA stuff (except a small shoe caddy). But this looks like something I could do with my chest of drawers.
Now that I'm actually posting videos to my channel (big ups to you guys for the constant inspiration!) I've been going back to the beginning of my favorite youtubers channels and watching their first videos to see how far they've come. It's crazy how true to yourselves you guys were even from the very beginning. Even the first video on your channel is very much in the same vain as your latest. So awesome, i hope to work with you guys one day.
Ah that's awesome!! We'll have to check out the videos! Haha oh man, this first video was such a struggle. We recorded the intro and outro about 100 times, it took us hours because we kept trying different things. It is so interesting to go back and look at people's early videos, we do that too!!!
I'm glad I found this channel.! I have some really nice antique handles and hinges - nabbed before the wrecking ball hit the old southern mansion destroyed by fire - that had soot on them, but cleaned off real easy. I've been wanting to put them on my cabinets, but hesitant about how to do it. DIY tomorrow. Wish me luck... yikes!
+Triggering Trolls wow those hinges have survived some things O_O Glad you have a use for them now. Good luck!! Measure 10 times before drilling!!!! Haha
Saw you all comment on Modern Builds and took a peak. FYI tip - when you are measuring the center to center distance of the pulls it would easier to start at 1" on the tape measure. The tip moves in and out a 32nd" and the angle you had it on will introduce some error too. The carpenters call it "burning a inch" to start at the 1" mark. Looks like you had fun and they do look much better.
Thanks for visiting Tom's Dreamshop Worx!! Yeah this was was fun but also nerve wracking in a way as it was our first RUclips video ever lol :P We feel way more comfortable now. Thanks for the tip! I thought that the tip moves on purpose though to compensate for the width of the tip by moving for measuring the inside or outside of things
Yes, your are correct, that is why it moves. I just felt in your case, you would not want a end that moved on you since you were not measuring a end, but the center of the hole. I also just subbed. Keep having fun. I love being a part of the maker community. Still pretty new at it myself.
Ahhh I totally see what you scene you are thinking of and your comment totally makes sense now :) Yeah should have used my calipers or ruler or burned the inch like you recommended to get the center to center distance. Really exciting community to enter into right? Thanks so much for the sub, we're excited to release more videos soon
As someone who lives in Canada where both systems are very present, I stick with inches and feet when it comes to that kind of measurement. Both systems would seem the most confusing but its actually great because you become fairly familiar with both, and then work with whatever is generally most convenient for each type of measurement.
Aaron dude, you have no idea... I usually end up rounding or guessing, tbh. I suppose we could always start implementing the metric system, but that’s expensive and we’re stubborn Americans, dammit. 🙄😂
I enjoyed the video (and all of your other videos that I have watched). My workaround for being between the two sizes of screws was to countersink the hole on the inside of the drawer with a forsner bit just a little and add a small washer. The bonus is that my clothes don't get snagged on the screw heads inside of the drawer. The downside is that it involves more drilling. I already had the washers.
At 1:09 you're measuring at an angle because of the catch. For more accurate measurements, hold the tape flat starting at 1" and just subtract the inch.
Hi - I have some of the malm dressers and I want to replace the drawer glides with longer extension ball bearing drawer glides that allow the drawers to go all the way out. Could you make a video for this? Especially curious of what hardware would work.
Heyo! I noticed that you were using Copic Sketches to draw out your design. As an artist, I know that these markers are $7 each! If you like the brush tip, try Blick Studio brush markers, they're a good bit cheaper!
Late comment by a few years, but; I was one of those people that had no clue about RUclips, other than "funny cat videos". COVID got me to realize how much I didn't like TV so I started exploring "cutting the cable" options which led me to discovering how wrong I was dismissing RUclips as a watered down version of Facebook. So WRONG! I have discovered so many new interests, reawoken interest in old hobbies, learned new skills, and also been disgusted by some things that were captured on video by real people that never made it to the major media outlets. 2020, while a terrible year of the COVID pandemic, was also a time for introspection and renewal and rediscovering some aspects of what the pioneers went through when they had to make do with what they had near and with them. We have a life changing tool that can be used to wonderful, positive effect with the internet/RUclips and community building. A true chance to use technology for a positive outcome. FYI: Black Magic Craft and EvanAndKatelyn were the first 2 channels I subscribed to. Eclectic, no? Now I am subscribed to over 200 channels (still a newbie) but look forward to seeing what crazy antics you guys bring to the screen! Oh; and the projects are great too! {grin}
Hi, I’d like to do this to my drawers also, have you had any issues with the drawer pulls coming off due to the strength of pulling. Thank you! This video was super helpful and I cannot wait time DIY my drawer
Funnily enough, I had this exact same dresser a few years ago before it fell apart on me. Great design and would probably last forever if it was made with hardwood. Your hack sure classes it up, though. Good work.
Thank you! We've had ours for about 4 years now and they've made it through a couple moves so we hope they'll keep hanging in there. If they do fall apart... we will definitely salvage the hardware! :)
Month ago i was buying a dresser to my first flat and i was thinking about exactly those (my gf have it in her rental apartment) but for me they were more like your first rental apartment/college time dresser and i went with something other...if i only saw that video earlier i would definitly go with those :).
+Ovv ner I think you could do a similar upgrade on another type dresser too. Even if it already has hardware, you could swap it out for something that looks nicer as an upgrade 👍
Hey there! Did you guys attach this dresser to your wall as suggested on the ikea site? And does your tv wobble at all, when opening & closing the drawers? I'm considering this dresser & would like to avoid the wall mount! Love your vid & hack!!!
+msbarn3s hey! We didnt wall mount it, but we also don't have small kids. Ours have always seemed stable, but it may not be the case for everyone so be careful!

Wow, working in inches seems like a real pain.
:P you get used to it. Liquid and volume and weight in imperial units are even worse though somehow
That why we stick to metric system here in the UK, it's a lots easier :)
