If you're a Catholic then you should know. It's your church that puts so much emphasis on Christ's death you call it passion, nearly completely forgetting the resurrection. Without the latter the former is useless. Then there's that whole recrucifying Our Lord thing at every single Mass, referring to him, the willing sacrifice as a Victim. And of course, for the layman Catholic there's the state of Grace. If you should die while sinning you lose heaven right? It seems the Son of God's once-and-for-all work was coopted by a Roman empire's formally pagan priesthood to be pez-dispensed at their pleasure. Since everybody is a sinner, I suppose a Catholic has a whole lot to fear in death.

And yet, the most interesting thing is that by this way they came into contact with the Gallo-Roman population and they fused; but even more, with the Roman political, administrative, military structures and the Franks took them for themselves so much that they used to consider themselves "the heirs of the Romans". There's a reason why the Franks were the longest and most powerful Roman-Barbaric reign in the High Middle Ages.
