Good fair video. If you react negatively to lugols iodine you may have following issues:
Hot nodule that expresses uncontrolled hormones and should be removed.
Too many toxins: fluoride, chlorine or bromide. These block the thyroid from accepting iodide to the thyroid. Mountain Dew has a great deal of bromide. Your body is reacting to pushing out toxins.
Autoimmune: Hashimotos is low iodine and selenium, B2 B3 etc.
The recommended RDA of .15 mg is insufficient.
    Other facts:
    Thyroid can store 50mg iodine.
    Body should have 1500mg
Iodine is stored is saliva glands, breasts and other glands.
Thyroid hormones are made in the thyroid but also ovaries make T2 and bone marrow white T cells. When a woman goes through menopause they become very iodine deficient. Iodine can help with menopause.
The process of iodine organification provides transport in the lipids and produces iodolactone which is required for apoptosis or programmed cell death. Hint: cancer cells don't have apoptosis.
Lack of iodine in breasts cause glands to become fibrocystic and can lead to cancer.
If you have dry mouth and don't sweat low iodine.
Women need more iodine than men because they have breasts and estrogen inhibits iodine.
Never start taking thyroid hormones without checking iodine levels. Think root cause. Many doctors see low thyroid numbers prescribe hormones and makes you feel worse.
I take 15mg lugols daily. Seek out a naturopath or doctor that specializes in iodine

I’m male, as I worked around the house my nails would split and rip they seemed thin. I saw a video on iodine and thought, I have sea kelp that I don’t use so …
I take it with 200mcg. Selenium and tyrosine, two things needed for iodine absorption and conversion to T3.
I wasn’t paying attention to my nails but they got thick and didn’t break any more!
    I let them grow to see how long I could go without them breaking;
I had to cut them. They got too long which never happens. 👍🏼
It seemed to take almost a month and my thinning hair looks like it is getting thicker.

I’ve been reading and listening to everything you say about iodine. I wrote on one of your blogs yesterday and you responded. Thank you. I found out I’m deficient so today is day 7 on iodine (6.5mg). I had lowered it due to stomach pain on day 2 that went away. Very interestingly my Apple Watch alerted me that I have a 5 day trend where my resting heart rate is down to 52 (was over 65 for over 2 years). I’m extremely cardiovascularly fit so I always wondered why I was in the 60’s (I ran 122 miles last month). Today I was extremely lethargic - couldn’t do anything, haven’t been able to work out this week so today I decided to take a second 6.5mg pill and within an hour the lethargy was gone! So now I think I can take your 12.5 mg supplement. It is a night and day difference.

I take MSM to support my detox, so my reaction to getting rid of toxic stuff due to iodine intake is not so extreme. I take 4 drops of iodine every week, but only 1 drop on 4 days. I'm also taking selenium, zinc and fol acid as tablets as a special intake for 90 days.
Yet MSM really helps with the initial side effects of iodine intake. MSM has so many other uses in our bodies, so I'm talking it continuously, 2 * 2 g per day. It really helps me fight the inflammations, also the silent inflammation.
I also am on my day # 46 of my all carnivore adventure. Yet I only started taking iodine recently after doing my research for perimenopausal issues.

@@moiragoldsmith7052 pretty good now. The side effects of the iodine went away after 2 or 3 weeks. It wasn't a silver bullet but made some inroads. It took me down the path of realising the root cause was toxins / heavy metals etc as iodine helps somewhat with those. I tried oral EDTA for a short period followed by chlorella and coriander/cilantro and use the EDTA every so often still. That was a real game changer, got rid of the real chronic part of things in days. On a regime of occasional EDTA but daily chlorella, coriander, fulvic / humic acid, trace minerals etc I am now "well" on the face of it. Still flag at about 4pm and get a week of PEM if I do anything above pottering around the house etc, but no more waking up as tired as I went to bed! - none of this is a recommendation for anyone reading by the way. With EDTA for instance you need to really be aware of what you are doing and ensure you are back filling electrolytes and minerals etc.

Now I take 50mcg‘s of Cytomel for about 5 weeks. I‘m slowly coming alive and my hair stopped fallen out last week. Plus I get less emotional. In all I take the 50mcg‘s of Cytomel and 44mcg‘s of Synthroid that does not always convert to T3 but I seem to be so much better. Brain Fog much better, No more muscle pain, or some call it Fibromyalgia. The Digestive system is much better. My whole body feels better. Sometimes I get the Generic Brand Liothyronine - If I can’t get to Cytomel. Works almost the same. Now with the combination of Iodine and Thyroid meds mentioned above, I feel pretty good. I had my Thyroid removed 23 years ago. Had I known back then what I learned from you, I would have tried other remedies. The German Endocrinologist said: It must be removed and scared me with maybe cancer If I don’t get it removed. I had Hashimoto’s it‘s an immune response. Learned all of this recently. I could have tried to regenerate it with Supplements and Food. Now I also know that I have a Gluten sensitivity. Their is just so much I have been trough because of my Thyroid removal. When I first got here to the USA from Germany I was on 2.00mgs Synthroid. The American Endocrinologists Have been taking it down to 88mgs over the last 20 years. I was a Zombie with Brain Fog and muscles pain and so many other issues including depression for years, until I added 25mcg’s Cytomel. It took me a while to find a doctor to prescribe it. A few years ago I followed the advice of a renowned authority on iodine where he suggested taking a pretty hefty dose, sort of a one-size-fits-all approach.
That well-intentioned advice caused me to go into severe hyperthyroidism, and if it had not been for my medical doctor's office phoning me to IMMEDIATELY stop whatever I was doing that caused it, I would have completely destroyed my thyroid. That experience has made me very hesitant to attempt taking iodine again. Dr. Childs, you say that it's not the iodine, but the underlying issues that are really the concern. That said, I guess the problem for me is how do I attempt to figure out what the underlying issues are. This presents a major challenge, unfortunately. Not sure how to accomplish that. I'm one of the few who has/ had issues with iodine. I got hyperthyroidism in the beginning. Heart palpitations heat intolerance and restlessness. My body though have a hard time absorbing selenium. I don't know why. I've been supplementing with it and eating selenium rich foods, but the test results shows no difference.
But my tolerance is much better now.
I couldn't handle stinging nettles or algae neither. Same result..
I think I had some autoimmune reaction. I've been having bad luck the last 10 years and I had mold in the last three places were I lived and got really sick from it.
Nowadays I can consume stinging nettles and algae again. But I have a hard time for Lugol's iodine. It burns topically on my skin and I got hot flushes and rough skin if I take it internally. But kelp works better. I just wish I could use Lugol's because kelp reduces the estrogen which I'm in my 40's starting to decline the closer to menopause I come. Else iodine balances estrogen. I don't know if I have misunderstood the statements about kelp and estrogen or?

And my coffee tastes awful- actually everything tastes awful!!! And suddenly my mouth and gums are so sensitive! I can’t tolerate toothpaste with peppermint or chewing gum with peppermint. - had to switch to just a plain toothbrush. Just put two and two together that maybe it was the iodine I started a month ago. I’m going to cut it off until this rash heals. I’m going crazy! Sounds like I need to add on some selenium??

Dear Dr. Childs, thank you so much for this very informative and helpful video! 🙏👍
What if someone (like me) is dealing with histamine intolerance due to gut disbiosis - would you proceed with iodine supplementation in the same way?
I was also diagnosed with heavy metal toxicity, and am very sensitive.
My worst symptom is severe muscle pain and adrenal fatigue.
Knowing how to proceed in that case - I’m quite sure it might help many others as well. So many people with histamine intolerance think they cannot take iodine, and that iodine is an actual trigger of histamine.
    Thank you very much!

Then directly after that I started sneezing!!! I was thinking what the heck?? But I thought to myself that it must be a coincidence cause no one has an allergic reaction to iodine 😂 But maybe I have what you have a histamine tolerance?? 🤷‍♀️ I don't know what that means but I will look into it. I was just grateful someone in this comment section had something even remotely similar to my experience so far.

Last summer I was using some Betadine gargle which contains iodine for an intense sore throat. Little did I know that could somehow cause a thyroid function reaction. After a few days it was just like 16 years ago before ablation when I was hyperthyroid. Sweating, heart racing, energetic. I think about this every time I wish I had some energy because I was getting stuff done. lol

Angioma is bromine. Bromine replaced iodine in bread in the 1960's. It is toxic to the body. The iodine is replacing the bromine in your thyroid and your body. So you may be filled up with bromine and or your body is trying to get rid of them when you take iodine. Even my dermatologist don't know this! Go figure! I learned this from a holistic doctor, (a real doctor).

Dear Dr Childs, I would be very grateful if you could help me. A few years ago I began taking a thyroid supplement which included iodine “just to be on the safe side”. I stopped taking it after being on it for about a year or so. I didn’t have any hair problems I was just hoping to have more energy and a faster metabolism. I now have hair loss and have done everything to find out the problem. For the past year I’ve been treated at a hair clinic with high dose minoxidil but it has no effect and my hair loss is getting worse. Could my body be reacting to no longer taking iodine? Is it possible my body got used to it (even though my hair was healthy before) and it’s behaving as though I’m lacking in it? Hormones and everything else ok. Thank you.

    • @lanceevans1689
      @lanceevans1689 Год назад +6

Hi Foxy, perhaps I can add just a small bit here. First off, I believe that iodine needs to be started (and perhaps ended, though not as critically) VERY SLOWLY. I started with 300mcg and worked up. I have also found that after reaching a point that I personally felt was a bit too high, or high enough, I backed down and found a comfy spot that was quite a bit less. But I did not stop, and certainly not quickly. I'm not sure if you hair issues started while on it, or after you got off iodine. You also do not say if you got tested for TSH, T4 and T3, to know if your thyroid is actually low. You can always do the old Dr. Barnes method of using a basil thermometer in the morning. Also, sometimes, hair loss and other "bad" symptoms are a form of detoxification. I have heard of ppl who lose their hair in detox periods, only to have it grow back even fuller. I get that that is a risk and tremendously hurtful if not the case, and it never grows back. At a guess, a small amount at least a few times a week might be totally safe, and a safe balance.

no. The most reliable test is kinda tricky - excess iodine appears on urine so you would have to take some iodine, pee, then subtract the ammount of iodine on your pee against the iodine you just took, and find out how much your body used, so if you have a lot of iodine in urine, you dont need it that much! But yeah its kinda tricky to test that stuff

I've been taking 112 mcg Levothyroxine for many years and I am and endurance athlete and I sweat a tremendous amount and I'm fearing that I'm losing a lot of nutrients including iodine through sweat. I did the iodine tincture test on my forearm and it faded and disappeared completely in less than an hour! I applied the solution three more times in succession to the same area of my arm and each time it disappeared in about the same amount of time. Because I was on levothyroxine I didn't think I needed iodized salt so I haven't taken that for years as well and I've also been using a salt substitute to increase my potassium and lower my blood pressure. Hey Dr Childs, would you please consider doing a video on the effects/link of high estrogen in men in relation to hashimoto's and hypothyroidism to which I suffer, my estrogen levels are extremely which I believe is the catalyst for my issues mentioned, here in Australia aromatase inhibitors are forbidden for men, when I try natural supplements such as Dim and 13C it upsets my gut due to problems caused from my hypothyroidism, I am desperately caught in a harmful circle.

Thankyou Dr. Child's, please can you clear up an issue for me. I am taking 75mcg levothyroxine and I have just bought 150mcg daily tablets of iodine. I cannot find a video that informs me if it us OK to take iodine while you are on Levothyroxine, please can you let me know, I am scared of taking them as there is some info that says it might send the TSH levels up to high, it might worsen and block the job of Levothyroxine, what's your knowledge on this?

I get the burning/stinging thyroid from low dose iodine, despite taking 200mcg selenium for almost a year now. I was putting selenium in my food.. Maybe I'm not absorbing it? Doing salt loading lately before going back to iodine to see if that helps.

I just started taking lugols iodine 3% one drop in a glass of water. I think it was too much as after three days of this I feel awful, tired, dizzy, headache and a painful thyroid. Going to stop taking it.

Definatly dont do the arm shot trend - autoimmune problems are skrocketing. Look up Dr Berg Keto and fasting, and do a moderate exercise program of walking, weights, and a weekly 20 minute sprint session. Dont do jogging or intense cardio, its a catabolic inflammatory exercise with little benefits.

Have had hypothyroidism for years. But stopped taking medication because I'm fed up with taking pharmaceuticals. I havent had too much trouble just weight gain. Out of the blue i decided to try 2 drops of iodine with a selenium supplement. After a week ive come under horrible depression which i know is completely hormonal. I feel like I took too much iodine. But the dr doesn't mention depression as a side effect... any thoughts?

do you think there will ever be a thyroid stem cell treatment or a thyroid transplant type of treatment?

There ought to be… stem cells I believe would create miracles for so many people. Hopefully with RFK as head of HHS now, the door will be opened for more alternative medical treatments to become mainstream in the US.

Good day. I have taken radio iodide on 30 Sept2022. For the first 4 days I was feeling ok,but after that my throat started to pain. My thyroid is so hurtful I cant touch my neck. The doctor took a full blood count and bloods for Tsh levels. I'm awaiting the results. What can this very hurtful thyroid now be after this iodide tablet?

Wish I would have done better research on that survival shield iodine. I may have given myself hyperthyroidism. Read somewhere else one dose is supposed to last 45 days and I've been taking it once a week for months. It took the patient around 7 months for it to resolve that developed hyperthyroidism after taking the same supplement. I'm suffering now with heart skips and digestive problems for the last week. The dose in the supplement I was taking is 650mcg
