  • The Revival Drive from Origin Effects isn't your run of the mill overdrive. It is actually all the parts that make an amp in a pedal, but without the ability to put it directly on a speaker... and this thing really is a revival, because it brings all the sounds of old classic amps right on your pedalboard.

You’re absolutely right. This video had to be made! Thank you for taking the time to make this! Can’t wait to get into mine! It will be used on a Mesa Lonestar Special and a Mesa Road King II V2 for a true test with multiple output tubes from the same amp.

This is worth the bucks as it is beyond what we have seen in a mere pedal. This not an idiot, knob turning, non reader, dufus pedal. It is not an idiot just put the knobs on 12 and tweak in. Understanding this pedal will make you certain that your constant need and obsession to buy different drives has come to an end. Since I got mine and I absorbed the manual and all videos before I got it. It just keeps producing tones that blow my mind, all my other drives are just toys compared to this. Wonder of analog goodness, no modeling, no mimic, just what great amps have and do to be great. That being said, if you like the best and want the best arrange the bucks. Paul and Leslie, priceless, this is the best review Paul has ever done, marvelous, humor, fun to watch. (Love Leslie in the background) Anyway, this pedal can do anything, not merely an OD, not anything like you have seen, really not that complex as it seems, just a learning curve to master it. Overdesign is better than not designed. Sorry for the verbosity but this is a long very well done demo. Hats off to Paul. And what does EytschPi42 mean???
Something to add: the Pedal Show could not get that if you want the really clean chime of a Vox, the "low" starts putting hair on the low end notes so back that off more. Do not imagine everything works like a basic pedal EQ. Which really that low end gives you that Billy Gibbons killer warm fuzz wrap on the notes, add ghosting and my god, you cant stop playing to try something else.

I tried a friend's....Awesome! 3 hours flew by and felt like 10 minutes. Tried it with 3 different amps...2 high quality solid states and a great Vox AC 15. Yes, adjustments with each amp had to be made but am completely floored by how dynamic this Revival Drive is. I knew what to expect and really concentrated on lower gain, high ghost, and saturation. This is the highest of quality tone shapers, expands the character of technique and touch into what seems like an endless galaxy of options. This delivered the "it factor" I've been searching for the last few years. Bought it today and should arrive on Thursday. I'm pumped and fully ready to make peace with the fact that I probably will still be exploring new territory with after a year has gone by. This thing is more dynamic and expressive than any 1 amp I have ever owned/tried/played. GAME CHANGER!!!!

I notice that a few of the guys that have reviewed it have suggested pairing it with something like the Powerstage, however that shouldn't be needed as many of the power amps designed with guitarists in mind try to emulate guitar power amp compression and breakup (which this does). You could feasibly have a killer rig with this, a totally flat power amp and a guitar cab (or FRFR speaker and IR loader).
This is currently topping my wish list due to the amount of different applications it can be used for. It will work as a preamp for either direct recording or into a power amp without the need for any additional power amp simulation and it will work well into the front of the vast majority of amps. It also nails those tones of a classic amp being pushed to its limit, which is a sound I love.

most entertaining guitar/pedal reviewer on youtube so basically you have a vintage amp/head in a pedal looks good sounds good to and it gives the guitars in certain settings kind of a single coil feel (even if they have humbuckers) nice

  • @paulsguitarstudio126
    @paulsguitarstudio126 6 лет назад +2

Just to add you do not have to use the preamp/pwr amp setting for running into a pwr amp. I actually prefer the EQ2 for all the option switches. You can do anything you like w this pedal there are no rules on settings, it all works and it works very, very well. Remember when you add low control it adds hair on the low end notes so if you want cleaner roll that down more. If you want that dirty tube sounding old amp Bill Gibbons thing crank it more. God I dig this pedal, best piece of gear I have ever bought. You do not want and you do not need a bunch of stuff running into this. It will alter any high gain stuff into it which may not be what you want unless you tweak to that pedal. I have a compressor pro and some boost options in front but you really could use just this pedal and w the mid boost and blend kill, guitar volume, a mix of different tones.

  • @VortexReality

Basically, discrete electronics is the use of individual parts (resistors, condensers, transistors) instead of integrated circuits. It is all analog circuitry whereas ICs tend to go digital (but not always as in OD pedals).
For who wants multiple sounds from a "simple" analog amp, you can get the Klonz (25W, loud enough for most players) for 799€ @Tho****'s. It might be an alternative to consider, don't you think ?
In my opinion, with this pedal, Origin Effects finally proved one could get a good "valve" amp sound without any valve. And I find this impressive.

When you used the RD with the Seymour Duncan power amp, was that then going directly back into your DAW it did it go through another amp?
I am wondering if a recording chain could be: RD->SD power amp->DAW with some amp sims. Or, is this unnecessary? Please enlighten me/us

I bought a Revival Drive about a month ago(or so...) and the Ft. switch! I have a Van Weelden Royal Overdrive...The Van Weelden is great, like having a Mercedes...the Revival Drive is like having a Ferrari. Plugged into my Marshall Astoria it’s like having an amazing 3-4 channel amp that does everything you want from an amp or basically any amp you want. I doubt I’ll ever sell it as it’s the overdrive/amps I’ve always wanted. Anyone wanna buy a Royal Overdrive...?

Hi Henning, with regards to your ground loop issue, do you have an earthing spike for your studio? It might help if you were to install one, if your country's building regulations allow it. It's fairly easy to do, dig a trench as deep as you can in ground which is not going to dry out completely in the summer preferably, and bury a length or loop, of copper tubing and connect your mains earth from the studio ring main to it. It's also a good idea to run a lightning conductor from the roof of the studio to a spark gap on the connection. If you get struck it will jump the gap straight to ground and won't fry your amps and pooter.

    • @EytschPi42

Have you tried the Paradigm strings from Ernie Ball? They are on par with the NYXL's as far as longevity, but in my opinion the Paradigm's feel better out of the box. I love how the Cobalts feel as well as the little bit of extra oomph and attack they seem to a have so those are a good choice for that tone, but they do seem to wear rather quickly in my experience.

Talked to the customer service of OE asking for a bass version. They replied they were already working on it. My suggestion was splitting the pedal into two, because as bass player I don't need all the functions. I said they should try to cover some 60s Amp characteristics like sunn colisseum, acoustic360. Pre-SVT stuff. Hope they 'll make it soon. - So far: Henning do a video with bass. The alternative to me was buying a darkglass vintage microtubes.
