I am also not only vinyl, because Cd Technology has so much evolved… that it surpasses some records… definitely depends of your Cd player.. and processor/ preamp (Oppo are so much musical and missing) I rediscovered a lot of beautifully remastered audio.) but Vinyl is always beautiful… artistic work… the best simple affordable music format. Period!

I'll never understand why some in the vinyl community have an issue with someone else getting a free record. I'm a 60-year-old "classic rock chick" who has been collecting on and off for 45 years. It takes a lot to put out quality videos, and those who have criticized content creators for making a few bucks along the way are defensive minded rule makers who are motivated my their own fragile egos IMHO! Love this video, Melinda. I’ve met some great people through the vinyl community that I have no doubt will be friends for life. As much silly nonsense occurs, if someone in the VC has a problem, everyone seems to come together and help them out. It’s of course nice to have found other collectors, because my friends think I’m nuts. IMO, there’s nothing wrong with monetizing one’s channel, and just be kind to each other. On this happy landmark for your channel, here's one of the ways I appreciate your work. Representation matters. Most youtube channels about vinyl and hi-fi are run by men, mostly middle-aged white guys (like me). My wife and I are super happy together. But she doesn't get my obsession with vinyl collecting and hi-fi gear (she accepts it, but doesn't get it or have any interest in it). A couple months ago, I was watching one of your videos and she was in the room. She saw & heard you in the video. She was interested, and stopped and watched the rest of the video with me. She asked if we could watch another of your videos, and we did. You didn't convert her into a vinyl enthusiast. But your video spoke to her. She started to understand my passion for vinyl, because she saw you, someone like her, who has this same passion and is super articulate and interesting and relatable. Over the years, she's also been in the room when I've watched videos by Michael 45rpm and other male youtube channels, and none of them ever caught her interest or spoke to her the way your videos did. Representation matters. Thanks for all you do.

First and foremost congrats on five years! I’ve been a regular viewer since about 2019 I think. What I like about your channel is you’re just one of us, you’re not a record store or a promoter, you’re just a fan who likes to talk about records. I tried making a video a while back. I was talking about the then just released Jackson 5 “Greatest Hits” reissue that uses the rare Japanese mixes. I talked about some other things as well. Then I went back to watch it before posting it and I couldn’t get thru it. Although I thought what I was discussing was interesting, I hated watching myself and how I spoke. So I never posted it. Perhaps one day I’ll give it a go again. Regarding anyone who has a problem with monetizing or getting free albums, that’s just jealousy pure and simple. I like that you talk about the Elemental Music albums for instance, I’ve gotten several of them because YOU spoke about them. I would not have known about them otherwise. So you’re doing your “job” as far as that goes. Anyhow, can’t wait to see what’s coming down the road for you and your channel! Happy New Year!

Congratulations, you do a great job. I watch even when I don't care about the records you're talking about, because your enthusiasm comes through. It's also nice to hear someone talk more about the journey and the music than the pressing details.
The positivity of this channel is what makes it a cherry on top of the hobby. I guess. Funny enough it is to me, as just a viewer and music collector, even if in my case the collection is all-digital. It doesn't matter. As another channel creator says at the end of his videos, "and whatever you do, enjoy the music." Here you do exactly that.

I also think you're pretty unique in the way you can speak with candor and clarity about some of the negative things about collecting and the VC and yet come across as totally cool and kind in your stances - you don't find that very often. Your ability to always keep the joy of music in your heart, even with dealing with the negative, is virtually unheard of, and that's a breath of fresh air where it is often needed! Agreed, support your favorite vinyl content creator. My favorite channel is "Pieces Of Vinyl". A lot of channels that I have found speak more on Rock, but Rocco Richardson has a abundance of information on great soul, modern soul, funk that I love, and his collection is top notch as well. This is a great community and I believe we learn new things every day from each other.

Congratulations Melinda, five years is a long time on RUclips. As regards to monitising your work, seems perfectly reasonable to me. Also, receiving records for free is a nice perk and I’m always interested to hear of audiophile pressings to decide if I should invest. My only advice on this is to avoid making any judgement about whether the free records are better or worse than competitive releases from other labels. It’s these comparisons which people will always suspect of not being genuine. It doesn’t help that the company sending you the records has a reputation which is far from good when it comes to transparency! Congrats on 5 years Melinda! That is something! Sorry to be 3 days late, but the whole new year thing is rough on me as I am still denying 2024 is even here. Also congrats on being in the book! That is really cool! Wow, I don't think that is something I could ever agree to for myself if I was asked. I am extremely introverted, I think it is the ultimate way to protect myself, but it comes at a high price. My philosophy is "Never turn down a free record"! If you like it, then it gives ample opportunity to be very grateful, if you don't like it one can still show gratefulness by giving it away or something like that "if permitted". Those that claim you are grifting or fake or something just because you got a free record or whatever are simply super jealous and can't control themselves or put themselves in the shoes of others on anything. Their universe does not extend beyond their own nose. They don't even stop to think that they don't have such opportunities because they are not grateful and more so likely because they don't have a channel or are in the hobby at all! It is called ignorance. As for RUclips pay, what pay. Even those who claim to make $2000 or $3000 per month or more on RUclips are not telling the truth. RUclips pays next to nothing. I will never understand how some of these people choose to quit a well paying job/career to do RUclips fulltime thinking they will make a fortune. RUclips is mostly just hardwork and not that inexpensive when one considers the hobby one is Youtubing about. As for being a part of the vinyl community. I'm not clear on what you said about even if one just watches videos one is part of the community. I just don't see how that can be personally, just my personal understanding or lack thereof. Being part of a community requires action and acceptance of said community. Personally, I don't think I am part of the vinyl community and never will be because my practical and venerate approach to it ruffles too many feathers. In other words, I am in it for the music and historical significance 100% and I don't listen to music less than maybe 20 years old or more. That said I am fixing to attempt making a RUclips channel mainly to share my collection and the music I listen to starting by end of this month. As to when the first video will be posted? I have no clue, it could even be never as I do not know what I am doing when it comes to RUclips. I know my content backwards and forwards, but doing RUclips, it may be best to keep me away from it. My channel will strictly be about sharing, period. RUclips is not cheap (nor easy) to do and I do not have the capital so the channel will likely fail shortly after leaving the gate, but I just want to see if I can do it. I don't care about algorithms, etc. I will never monetize beyond affiliate marketing, if that (which pays far less than RUclips). Patreon, sponsorships and the like are the things of nightmares as far as I am personally concerned. I can't be in front of a camera either and that alone will keep one out of a community on RUclips.

You and your videos as I have always seen them when you get down to it is that you are a genuine person...no bull or build up at all. The videos to me are great...it IS a passion and a love. As for others who we have made friends with in our lives whether it be in the VC or elsewhere it is the common love of in this case records and the music. Music to me is one of the few things I believe most everybody loves to some degree or other. As for monetizing you channel...that is your choice...if people have an issue with that don't watch them. At the end of our road we each travel on all we ultimately take with us is friendships and family relationships and our mind, heart and soul. I honestly can't see anyone raking you over the coals about anything because of how you present yourself...just being you and being honest. I have known about YT for a long time and watched once in a great while when a friend mentioned something that was posted on it. And then hell came to us all to some degree or other via Covid...being stuck home and everything shut down...YT I think got a TON of people through it being it's free and theres so much info about anything it seems. I ditched cable TV...best move ever and don't miss it. I love getting on here and seeing the channels I sub to posting great videos about stuff I love and record collecting is one of those things. You were one of the first channels i discovered and subbed to...cause you are you Melinda and you as far as i am concerned are the real deal...don't change a thing. A HUGE congrats on 5 years and I hope you have many more years showing us all and talking about finds that are good and stuff to avoid. Analogue October records is my local record where i buy all my new vinyl from. Grear shop and awesome family run business and their first is such high value for money, the quality for the price next to what other audiophile pressings sell for is excellent. Thankyou for featuring their release. :)
Sorry for my poor typing. It is in the old Roman city of Chichester so has 2000 years of history and is very beautiful. We actually have three record shops but the other two sell used. Chichester is very worth a visit. Many RUclips videos showing it, we have the old Roman wall that surrounds the city and the old cathedral and lots of parkland and arundel castle is nearby too. @@MelindaMurphy

I am also not only vinyl, because Cd Technology has so much evolved… that it surpasses some records… definitely depends of your Cd player.. and processor/ preamp (Oppo are so much musical and missing) I rediscovered a lot of beautifully remastered audio.) but Vinyl is always beautiful… artistic work… the best simple affordable music format. Period!

Love this video, Melinda. I’ve met some great people through the vinyl community that I have no doubt will be friends for life. As much silly nonsense occurs, if someone in the VC has a problem, everyone seems to come together and help them out. It’s of course nice to have found other collectors, because my friends think I’m nuts. IMO, there’s nothing wrong with monetizing one’s channel, and just be kind to each other. Representation matters. Most youtube channels about vinyl and hi-fi are run by men, mostly middle-aged white guys (like me).
My wife and I are super happy together. But she doesn't get my obsession with vinyl collecting and hi-fi gear (she accepts it, but doesn't get it or have any interest in it).
A couple months ago, I was watching one of your videos and she was in the room. She saw & heard you in the video. She was interested, and stopped and watched the rest of the video with me. She asked if we could watch another of your videos, and we did.
You didn't convert her into a vinyl enthusiast. But your video spoke to her. She started to understand my passion for vinyl, because she saw you, someone like her, who has this same passion and is super articulate and interesting and relatable.
Over the years, she's also been in the room when I've watched videos by Michael 45rpm and other male youtube channels, and none of them ever caught her interest or spoke to her the way your videos did.

First and foremost congrats on five years! I’ve been a regular viewer since about 2019 I think. What I like about your channel is you’re just one of us, you’re not a record store or a promoter, you’re just a fan who likes to talk about records. I tried making a video a while back. I was talking about the then just released Jackson 5 “Greatest Hits” reissue that uses the rare Japanese mixes. I talked about some other things as well. Then I went back to watch it before posting it and I couldn’t get thru it. Although I thought what I was discussing was interesting, I hated watching myself and how I spoke. So I never posted it. Perhaps one day I’ll give it a go again.
Regarding anyone who has a problem with monetizing or getting free albums, that’s just jealousy pure and simple. I like that you talk about the Elemental Music albums for instance, I’ve gotten several of them because YOU spoke about them. I would not have known about them otherwise. So you’re doing your “job” as far as that goes.
Anyhow, can’t wait to see what’s coming down the road for you and your channel! Happy New Year!

Happy 5th anniversary, Melinda! One of the reasons I try never to miss your videos is because of who you are - a fan of all different types of music. I also think you're pretty unique in the way you can speak with candor and clarity about some of the negative things about collecting and the VC and yet come across as totally cool and kind in your stances - you don't find that very often. Your ability to always keep the joy of music in your heart, even with dealing with the negative, is virtually unheard of, and that's a breath of fresh air where it is often needed! Agreed, support your favorite vinyl content creator. My favorite channel is "Pieces Of Vinyl". A lot of channels that I have found speak more on Rock, but Rocco Richardson has a abundance of information on great soul, modern soul, funk that I love, and his collection is top notch as well. This is a great community and I believe we learn new things every day from each other.

I don't remember did you have already first video but soon I was watching your videos. And that was salt of this specially back then, finding new channels. Congratulations Melinda, five years is a long time on RUclips. As regards to monitising your work, seems perfectly reasonable to me. Also, receiving records for free is a nice perk and I’m always interested to hear of audiophile pressings to decide if I should invest.
My only advice on this is to avoid making any judgement about whether the free records are better or worse than competitive releases from other labels. It’s these comparisons which people will always suspect of not being genuine. It doesn’t help that the company sending you the records has a reputation which is far from good when it comes to transparency!

I understand what you're saying when it comes to these shoot outs. There's no way that everyone is going to agree on which version sounds the best. I do give my opinions and I would never pick one version as the winner if I didn't honestly think it was. I agree, it's a tricky business. I never want to come across as disingenuous.

Congrats on 5 years Melinda! That is something! Sorry to be 3 days late, but the whole new year thing is rough on me as I am still denying 2024 is even here. Also congrats on being in the book! That is really cool! Wow, I don't think that is something I could ever agree to for myself if I was asked. I am extremely introverted, I think it is the ultimate way to protect myself, but it comes at a high price.
My philosophy is "Never turn down a free record"! If you like it, then it gives ample opportunity to be very grateful, if you don't like it one can still show gratefulness by giving it away or something like that "if permitted". Those that claim you are grifting or fake or something just because you got a free record or whatever are simply super jealous and can't control themselves or put themselves in the shoes of others on anything. Their universe does not extend beyond their own nose. They don't even stop to think that they don't have such opportunities because they are not grateful and more so likely because they don't have a channel or are in the hobby at all! It is called ignorance.
As for RUclips pay, what pay. Even those who claim to make $2000 or $3000 per month or more on RUclips are not telling the truth. RUclips pays next to nothing. I will never understand how some of these people choose to quit a well paying job/career to do RUclips fulltime thinking they will make a fortune. RUclips is mostly just hardwork and not that inexpensive when one considers the hobby one is Youtubing about.
As for being a part of the vinyl community. I'm not clear on what you said about even if one just watches videos one is part of the community. I just don't see how that can be personally, just my personal understanding or lack thereof. Being part of a community requires action and acceptance of said community.
Personally, I don't think I am part of the vinyl community and never will be because my practical and venerate approach to it ruffles too many feathers. In other words, I am in it for the music and historical significance 100% and I don't listen to music less than maybe 20 years old or more.
That said I am fixing to attempt making a RUclips channel mainly to share my collection and the music I listen to starting by end of this month. As to when the first video will be posted? I have no clue, it could even be never as I do not know what I am doing when it comes to RUclips. I know my content backwards and forwards, but doing RUclips, it may be best to keep me away from it. My channel will strictly be about sharing, period. RUclips is not cheap (nor easy) to do and I do not have the capital so the channel will likely fail shortly after leaving the gate, but I just want to see if I can do it. I don't care about algorithms, etc. I will never monetize beyond affiliate marketing, if that (which pays far less than RUclips). Patreon, sponsorships and the like are the things of nightmares as far as I am personally concerned.
I can't be in front of a camera either and that alone will keep one out of a community on RUclips.

You and your videos as I have always seen them when you get down to it is that you are a genuine person...no bull or build up at all. The videos to me are great...it IS a passion and a love. As for others who we have made friends with in our lives whether it be in the VC or elsewhere it is the common love of in this case records and the music. Music to me is one of the few things I believe most everybody loves to some degree or other.
As for monetizing you channel...that is your choice...if people have an issue with that don't watch them. At the end of our road we each travel on all we ultimately take with us is friendships and family relationships and our mind, heart and soul. I honestly can't see anyone raking you over the coals about anything because of how you present yourself...just being you and being honest.
I have known about YT for a long time and watched once in a great while when a friend mentioned something that was posted on it. And then hell came to us all to some degree or other via Covid...being stuck home and everything shut down...YT I think got a TON of people through it being it's free and theres so much info about anything it seems. I ditched cable TV...best move ever and don't miss it. I love getting on here and seeing the channels I sub to posting great videos about stuff I love and record collecting is one of those things.
You were one of the first channels i discovered and subbed to...cause you are you Melinda and you as far as i am concerned are the real deal...don't change a thing. A HUGE congrats on 5 years and I hope you have many more years showing us all and talking about finds that are good and stuff to avoid.

Analogue October records is my local record where i buy all my new vinyl from. Grear shop and awesome family run business and their first is such high value for money, the quality for the price next to what other audiophile pressings sell for is excellent. Thankyou for featuring their release. :)

Sorry for my poor typing. It is in the old Roman city of Chichester so has 2000 years of history and is very beautiful. We actually have three record shops but the other two sell used. Chichester is very worth a visit. Many RUclips videos showing it, we have the old Roman wall that surrounds the city and the old cathedral and lots of parkland and arundel castle is nearby too. @@MelindaMurphy
