    These videos are my favourite to watch at the end of each year.
    I loved Weyward but I went into it knowing nothing in advance which helped (i.e. no witchy expectations or hype). I agree that all of the stories had been done before but I thought that the triple timeline helped frame them differently while also drawing connections, and I loved the nature and mobilising the insects. I also liked the way the present day abuse situation wasn't drawn out and explicit at the beginning. Like you mention there are SO many books around at the moment relating to intimate partner violence and they really vary in how it's portrayed.
    I agree it wasn't really exceptional enough to win both those Goodreads awards and understand that my love for it is weighted by personal taste. Sorry it didn't work for you, I very much enjoy watching your reviews (even when I disagree).

    Wow, Janet Evanovich made the list... Not complaining, I only read up to the 7th book.
    I like stories with oddball reoccurring characters and crazy situations.

    I just don't support your review of Janet Evanovich/Stephanie Plum books but I do get it..... you read the 17th book in a series with no context 20 years after the fact with the lens of 2020s rules. I read these in my teens and 20s and they are hilarious. The romance isn't the main plot at all and Stephanie isn't supposed to be a perfect person. I didn't love the triangle myself but these are meant to be fun, funny, action, mysteries you don't take so seriously. And the New Jersey representation is 100% on point even if you find it problematic. It's accurate. LOL

    The angry started pretty quickly haha. I think my "worst books" are just a genre I need to stop buying. Anything that is listed as coming of age story with bylines saying "darkly funny." They just end up not being funny at all and just depressing and about some pretty garbage people that includes at some point some weird sex thing just casually thrown in. Sure, they usually include some social commentary or discussion of coping with grief but I have read better books on the topic that don't bum me out.

    Glad to hear someone hate Fourth Wing for many of the same reasons I did. I also found Violet to be an insufferably unlikable Mary Sue character who just cheated her way through everything and had one of the worst cases of main character immunity I’ve ever seen. And the way the author virtue-signaled by including so many POC, gay, non-binary (seriously, that character was literally just there to be there to signal that the author believes in that stuff, the character had basically no role in the story) etc. characters made it pretty predictable when all of them managed to survive despite being lesser equipped to and only the straight white male characters died. And I hated the way everyone suddenly ganged up on and bashed the childhood friend character (who would have been a MUCH better love interest and could have been and lent to ACTUAL romance) halfway through, who did absolutely nothing wrong except to be reasonable and try to protect the MC from her own reckless stupidity. Violet just struck me as a completely immature rebel without a cause who constantly put herself into danger just to make some sort of point, and the only reason it didn’t backfire and get her k!lled countless times over was because she was the main character. I don’t get what the dragons saw in her. And don’t even get me started on the sx/dragon sx…it wasn’t romance, it was just sx. But it was presented as romance, which made it awful.
    I didn’t care for The Housemaid much either. I too feel like abvsers!ve husband stories, especially ones written by women, are just so overdone nowadays. I felt like the book was more interesting at the beginning when the women seemed to be the cr4zy one, and I felt like the ‘twist’ cheapened the whole thing by making it just a standard ‘man bad’ story. And never mind that what the housemaid does is actually so much worse than what the man did, yet we’re supposed to be rooting for her while condemning the man.

    • @bluecannibaleyes
      @bluecannibaleyes 7 месяцев назад

      I should clarify that I haven’t read Housemaid’s Secret, just The Housemaid. But it sounds like it’s more of the same tropes I disliked, so I definitely have no plans to read it.

    Finally, someone is speaking up about that ridiculous bounty hunter series by Janet Evanovich. It is so popular and I can't for the life of me figure out why. I read One For the Money (the first title in that series) years ago and I absolutely HATED it. It wasn't funny, it wasn't charming, the mystery wasn't interesting, the MC was bad at her job and she only succeeded because she was lucky. That's it.
