Thanks loads. Wink and crew! If you’re fielding requests, I’d love to see the pilot of Geoff Edwards’ Treasure Hunt. I’ve heard it had a quiz segment how Jan Murray’s did.
OMGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG!!!!! I literally screamed in my car when I saw this! I’ve been wanting to see the full pilot of this for ages since I saw the snippet on Robert Hanley’s page. I’m a big fan of Jay Wolpert-he is a genius. Wink and co., you’ve outdone yourself and thank you bunches for these surprises!!!
20:36; Johnny Gilbert was the announcer from the 1983 pilot "Fortune Hunters" before he was announced from Jeopardy! in 1984 and in Supermarket Sweep in the 2000s.
I love the end game, where two players playing on the same board with secret knowledge. The front game was great, too - a really clever twist on general knowledge, and good writing for some clever questions. But the structure probably killed it. Production choosing a player to go straight to the end game was almost for certain going to get nixed by S&P.
I would probably add these rules: 1) If a player correctly identifies the Faker but is not the winner, that player receives $250 cash, so even though a player is essentially out, there is still incentive to try for the right answer; 2) If neither of the three other players identify the Faker, the Faker plays the Photo Finish round solo, winning the $10,000 for ten right answers; 3) If all three players correctly identify the Faker, the Faker is out of the game and the first two players to identify the Faker advance to the Photo Finish.
This was actually pretty good, shame it didn’t get picked up. The “Photo Finish” end game was much better here than the one by the same name used in the Fast Friends pilot.
If you watch the Movie 9 to 5 you'll hear the same music that was used here when they show the clues and then decide weather to freeze. It's when Lily Tomlin steals the body from the hospital.
There were a lot of good pilots by Jay Wolpert and Bob Stewart made that didn't pick up. Those all could've been hits. They just couldn't compete against the big names like Goodson & Todman, Barry & Enright, Reg Grundy, and Chuck Berris.
oh look it’s “far from over” by frank stallone again. in all seriousness I think this pilot is way too cartoony. maybe that was Wolpert’s jam back then but it might have played a factor in why it didn’t get picked up. wasn’t he also pitching “Duel in the Daytime” to NBC around this time too?
I liked it but agree too complicated. I also did not like that the faker automatically got to play in the bonus round. I sure wish we had more game shows that were just game shows and not titillating.
Wow, what a great show! I see a few things that could have tightened up the production, but given that this was a pilot, I give it a solid A-.... Why this wasn't ever picked up? I think that the networks at the time, as well as the buyers of the indies (if this was being sold into syndication) all seemed to have it out for Mr. Wolpert... Which is a crying shame. I don't think that you could easily rework this for a 2023 audience, but it would have been a hit back in the early 80's for sure.
I love Wolpert’s question writing, not to mention his pirate movies. The faker doesn’t really fake anything. It’s not like “The Enemy Within,” where they have to act. This game would be the same if the four parts of each clue were mounted above, say, treasure chests.
the front game was a joy, solid concept and execution. the bonus game is not nearly as good a concept, and doesn't really cohere with the front. might work as a side game as part of a different show.

I doubt it seeing as it was shot in December, 1983. Press Your Luck was already on the air then. It likely was a potential replacement for Tattletales.
Who is this host? Bob WHO? Also, I wish to see the pilot of Tic Tac Dough from 1976 or 1977, which I think was hosted by Jack Barry. And the second 1989 pilot to the Joker's Wild with Pat Finn. Plus the 1989 pilot to Quiz Kids Challenge, the 1987 pilot to The All-New Liar's Club, the 1979 pilot for The Letter Machine, the precursor to $1 Million Chance Of A Lifetime, the 1971 pilot for The Joker's Wild with Jack Barry with a 3-player format, the 1983 pilot for The All-New Let's Make A Deal with Monty Hall, the 1984 pilot for Catch Phrase, and finally, the 1985 pilot for Strike It Rich.
Welp... The just-revealed contents of the former surprise... What can I say? This game show is Among Us, DECADES before that computer game was a thing! XD
You've got to admit, Jay Wolpert always was thinking outdide the box when creating game shows.

The closing song is “Far From Over” by Frank Stallone.
It would be later used in fast friends
Also WCW theme song from starcade back then
For future commenters, this video was titled "SURPRISE" before it Premiered - that's why you're seeing random guesses beforehand.
OK!!!!!
Thanks for sharing that tidbit of information! You are amazing!
I don't know why I recognized this but the background music for the show was also used in the movie 9 to 5 from 1980
WHOA!!
Who would have figured the classic "Nine To Five" score would ever have made its way to a game show?
Thank you so much Wink! So many amazing shows and pilots so quickly. These are a joy to watch.
The theme for this pilot was later used for the game show pilot Fast Friends.
4:52; I heard the host of the game almost bleep in the pilot game show.
I love the end game, where two players playing on the same board with secret knowledge. The front game was great, too - a really clever twist on general knowledge, and good writing for some clever questions.
But the structure probably killed it. Production choosing a player to go straight to the end game was almost for certain going to get nixed by S&P.
Maybe that's so at the time this was produced, but shows like The Mole, Dirty Rotten Cheater and The Hustler have broken that mold.
I would probably add these rules:
1) If a player correctly identifies the Faker but is not the winner, that player receives $250 cash, so even though a player is essentially out, there is still incentive to try for the right answer;
2) If neither of the three other players identify the Faker, the Faker plays the Photo Finish round solo, winning the $10,000 for ten right answers;
3) If all three players correctly identify the Faker, the Faker is out of the game and the first two players to identify the Faker advance to the Photo Finish.
I think would’ve been a big hit. I would’ve tuned in every day to this
Me too! I can't imagine why it wasn't picked up!
Wow, this 1983 Fortune Hunters game show pilot was super magnificent!!
I like this Pilot. I do not know why it was not picked up. I watched this pilot 3 times.
We've got Bob & Carol, but where's Ted & Alice?
Please let it be one of the rare Price Is Right episodes from the seventh season. 🙏💲
Why is the 7th season so rare?
This was actually pretty good, shame it didn’t get picked up. The “Photo Finish” end game was much better here than the one by the same name used in the Fast Friends pilot.

Cartoon detective was cute. Pre-Roger Rabbit stuff.
20:36; That announcer was Johnny Gilbert!
Interesting concept for a game show, and very unusual. But I preferred the short-lived Blackout by Jay Wolpert.

Winkster, you’ve done it again. Thank you, thank you, & THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!😅
Now I know the the opening/recap music is stock music, but what is the name of it and what company produced it?
oh look it’s “far from over” by frank stallone again.

This show would’ve been a potential replacement for “Tattletales” but was passed over for “Body Language”.
LOL!
The music is from “Clue!” the movie by John Morris.
It's actually from the movie 9 to 5
The music going to and from breaks is Frank Stallone's "Far Fro Over".
This was taped in 1983. Clue was released in 1985.

My mom made 382 phone calls in a week.
Tic Tac Dough pilot???
The Sound is Echoing in the background
Yep.
Wonder what happens if they all missed the faker
Frank Stallone-Far From Over
Do tou KNOW HOW MUCH I've been wanting to se this??? A million thank you's Wink!
It can work. Especially when you consider Jackbox's "Fakin' It".
A nother one sweet
price is right pilot lol i hope

Had this gone to series, here's who I think should've announced: either Bob Hilton or Rod Roddy.
A show that was a little too complex to become a series. Gotta keep it simple if it's going to have a long run.
Main problem with a lot of Jay's concepts: Too complicated.
nice
Without a doubt, the main game was the unofficial inspiration for Dirty Rotten Cheater.
And the BBC's Enemy Within.
a very fun game
Was it taped at NBC Studios, Burbank??
No, this was at CBS Television City.

Body Language, from what I've heard.
I that song
What could it be??? Playing it close to the vest...no clues...gonna have to wait until I take care of my to-do list after work...
I could've sworn the faker was bob

Bob Hanley. I'd seen small clips of this pilot before Wink uploaded the full one (they were actually on the host's YT channel).
Is that you Bob Haut who helped his wife winning the million dollar prize in 1987?
It sure is!
Isn't the theme song the same one used on Blackout 5yrs later?
Blackout pilot, I think. It would also be the pilot for Fast Friends a year later.
Another surprise? Let's hope it's Wink' last TTD (complete):)
His last TTD is on RUclips already

I don't think this would've lasted long. Too much explanation stuff.
That's the concept of a game show pilot. To explain the rules of the game.
Too complicated.

i think the animation intro hurts the chance of a series. its too out of place and silly.

That's, basically, every game show produced by Jay Wolpert.
