For everyone saying that the tone's a little shoddy, remember that she's a guitar player in a band, and that means that her amp tone isn't optimised in order to sound good by itself, it's dialled in to sound good in a mix/in rehearsals.
She seems happy and successful. I give any person credit who has succeeded and puts in the hard work and effort. So many negative comments from people who either never made it or never will, I'm not talking just about being a musician I mean at anything in life. And don't lie to yourself no one with such a negative mind set will ever succeed the only consolation you have is others thumbs up you get on your comments.
+bluwng Your statement is too general to be true, I know because I agree with the criticisms, and I've made it in my eyes. Debt free, have tons of free time to do whatever I want and I own my own business. I'm a decent guitar player, photographer and artist. And I have great relationships. However, the only important thing, is that I'm a happy person. What more can a person want really? And I still agree with the fact that she has way too much gain, is a relatively sloppy player. If she's made it that's truly wonderful, I can however be happy for her AND express a criticism at the same time. There is room in a human personality for that. That is my opinion and I have a right to express it just as much as anyone else, including you. The problem is, I realize that it's my opinion, and you say your opinion as if it's fact. In all reality, you have no way of knowing much of anything about the people who are leaving these comments. You are just trying to defend her. But you're using ignorant statements to do it.
What a healthy minded, great musician. Real musicians never stop learning and improving, and it's cool to hear her experience as a self-taught developing musician.
+Cring0r Dude... she already needed a gate with that much gain to control that unwanted noise hehehe. That's cool with me though because I personally use a LOT of gain in my playing but I aim for a 'clean' sound to the distortion. Perhaps a fast delay to take a little of the edge off would have been nice for the leads.
Music is about how it makes you feel. Where it takes you. Not just meaningless random shredding dribble. Shredding has it's place and is cool if used sparingly. Not exclusively!
She is just so honest... I'm a 58 year old guitar guy and I'm so impressed with the ease she approaches the instrument. But it's the human side of her that sells me. God is Great. Thank you Lord for putting her on this planet.
she's very real and sincere… takes styles she likes and makes them her own… is herself by herself and that's hard in and of itself… has mobility and ability that many of us can only dream of having… i raise my axe to her, not cause she's a young-lady, but because she's a fine guitar player as well as Alain !!! Peace to all
These videos are awesome! My only suggestion would be to close mic the guitar cabinets as the room sounds very big and the vids might benefit from closer microphones
One thing I will say is that playing the blues is important for an electric guitar player to learn even if that's not what you ultimately want to play. The blues is where most learn their phrasing and develop strong vibrato. The shred community often writes of the blues as simple standard bullshit. There fucking stupid and probably weak in areas like vibrato. I'm not a blues player but there is a lot to learn from the blues. Eddie Van's style is deeply routed in blues and the same applies to many other great players and technicians. Steve Vai utilizes blues licks all the time and is a key part to his overall sound which is very diverse. To me Malmsteen can be just as boring as someone who plays blues licks all day. Yngwie pretty much sticks to the box he puts himself in. I like Yngwie but he is a one trick pony who plays using the same variations of Harmonic minor scales and stays in the Phrygian mode 90% of the time. I suggest that every guitar player should devote some time to learning the blues in order to get a feel for vibrato, phrasing, and string bending. Sometimes its far better and more effective to grab a note by the balls and bend the shit out of it than doing some flurry of notes as fast as you can. Flurries are great but only if there coupled with good phrasing and long held out bends that help produce strong melodic control. A flurry should be something used to get you somewhere else melodically.
+Kris Ross " Steve Vai utilizes blues licks all the time and is a key part to his overall sound " - I've listened to Vai since the eighties and he is NOT a blues based player.Blues doesn't come naturally to him as say his cohort Satriani.Your statement is just plainly incorrect.Yngwie can and does plays blues - interspersed in his shred he'll incorporate blues licks. I don't know what you've been hearing in their music - but you need to clear the wax out of your ears mate.
so is it speed over musicality? In the words of Greg Howe, "use speed as a musical tool when it fits". She clearly is very technically competent, but speed for the sake of speed feels like its designed to impress rather than to be enjoyed and listened to.
This is an excellent example of why guitarists should learn to play rhythm guitar as well as lead and all the tapping and sweeping tricks. Ya gotta walk before you can run.
Maybe the reason it sounds like there is so much reverb, has to do with the fact they're in a giant concrete room? Their voices reverberate off the walls as is.
Interesting... her example of classical music was amazingly similar to Becker's main sweeping section in Altitudes. Any more info on this? Btw, not criticizing, just wondering what she was playing.
WOW! What a talent. If not for the Alice Cooper Leftist BS attacks I would not have ever learned of this amazing talent. I will follow Nita. I need to get back into all of this. Such talent.
+Slappy Marsden Yeah, as muchas I know, she had the bridge changed so she can make those crazy sounds. Plus, she always has the finish removed from the neck.
to all those complaining its how she was micd. when she rolled off the volume the true tone behind it actually swelled (if you listen hard enough) the tone is pretty awesome. but i agree it sounds like crap cause it was too trebbly
I have been playing for about 21 years and I personally think speaking from experience that she is a guitar beast if you don't think so then you don't know as much about guitar playing as you think just because she doesn't play your taste in music does not in any way discredit her ability to play really well ppl are to quick to judge others for the things they are talented at simply for the most part they are jealous that they can't do what the person they are putting down can do just something to think about
Nita is expressing many positive observations about instrumental musicianship, and I am very impressed with her playing. it's girl power time - lets go!.
I love all the negative comments from people who aren't as good as she is. Guys that can't stand it that a girl is better than they are. Face it guys, girls are in the club now, some of them can outplay you (Nita can certainly outplay me), and you may not like it, but I think it's great.
love shawn lane! and I really wish they would find a different way to do the input jack on the S series. had one a few years ago and loved it but damn, that input placement destroys a nice top. :(
Ibanez guitar through a Blackstar amp..... what do you expect; of course it's just going to be one dimensional shred metal overdrive. I'll take Alain's rig in the Fender Jazzmaster and Fender Twin amp anyday over fucking Ibanez.
+Kim Cornell Not true. Some ibanez's with 5way switch (especially dimarzio's) have very dynamic tones. Joe Satriani has a nice tone. Sounds better live too. Depends alot on the amps as well. I personally don't like black stars however Ibanez guitars sounds great through mesa boogies, EVHIII 5150s, Suhr(badger, SL67/68) Marshall, Vox and peavey. Depends on your settings and effects too obviously but I have heard great tones from ibanez. Same for a strat/tele and Les Paul. They can sound horrible depending on the person but overall great guitars.
I'd never heard anything of Nita until I saw this video tonight. I like her open-ness and natural talent. Hopefully she'll cast off the 80's Michelangelo-Battio, shredder-mentality and over-blown sustain, and settle in to her own style. The guy who tried to explain to her that 'less is more' was right.
Man, reading a lot of your comments and you people are brutal. She's a shredder, that's what she likes. As far as her tone, I doubt she was going for pure tone here. With her style, which is like a classic shredder style, it works well enough. With that must distortion does tone really matter much?
Not so much thetone, the actual "shredding" is a sloppy mess with missed notes, out of tune bends, sweeps you can't hear only see etc etc. In short, she plays much faster than she actually can do cleanly. It's kinda like you asking for Bubka heights at the pole vault...Won't be pretty right?
+Bob Solo I never thought I had a soul, but I shat one out listening to that. It was so seized up it shattered when it hit the floor. My brain feels strangely flash-frozen now.

bluwng but it doesn't sound good.
the absolute truth!!
What a healthy minded, great musician. Real musicians never stop learning and improving, and it's cool to hear her experience as a self-taught developing musician.
"And you know-- these sweeps anyone can do."
I can't.
sweeping is incredibly easy just learn the fucking scale first
well she's pretty sloppy too
yes, you can.... it is how bad you want it.
I think she could have used abit more gain and reverb
+Cring0r could have*
+homer blair lol
+Cring0r yeah right ,I think she can do what she wants she gets paid to play and a lot of money I dont ,so she must be doing something right
+Cring0r LOL
+Cring0r Dude... she already needed a gate with that much gain to control that unwanted noise hehehe. "You're playing your loved one to sleep at night". Imagine someone attempting to play you to sleep with that tone. Horrific.
lol. "I had this horrible nightmare mommy. This giant amplifier turned to 11 was chasing me throwing sloppy arpeggios at me! Aaaaaahhhh!"
you would probably end up having a nightmaire lmfao
Don't think he gets much sleep lol
Now I'll listen to classical Strauss. No wonder you are legitimately great, Ms. Strauss. By the way, this is a great interview, really interesting.
She is just so honest... I'm a 58 year old guitar guy and I'm so impressed with the ease she approaches the instrument. But it's the human side of her that sells me. God is Great. Thank you Lord for putting her on this planet.
Lol, thanks for the humor
she's very real and sincere… takes styles she likes and makes them her own… is herself by herself and that's hard in and of itself… has mobility and ability that many of us can only dream of having… i raise my axe to her, not cause she's a young-lady, but because she's a fine guitar player as well as Alain !!! Peace to all
These videos are awesome! My only suggestion would be to close mic the guitar cabinets as the room sounds very big and the vids might benefit from closer microphones
nita is a very good player:she is still young .i wish i had played the places she has so chill guys.

out of all that I read, "I'm butthurt because I can't play "so I'm going to type a novel to make excuses. .
+Kris Ross Ι do not know blues, i shred fine and my vibrato is smooth. I know jazz though. So, yeah, an invalid statement
+Brian J Not really. i dont agree with him 100% but he has good points.
+Kris Ross erm achieving a really good and solid Blues phrasing is WAY harder then palyin some scales and arps at lightspeed..
She's so hot looking but besides that, her guitar playing is phenomenal. Awesome playing.
Nita has a lovely talking voice. I am sure she has a lovely singing voice too.
awesome that your family's name Strauss dates back to 1800's. that's cool. you play nice also young lady.
Alain Johannes is the best.
hello, I wonder , that pickups spent on is ibánez s5570 PRESTIGE, NITA STRAUSS,sounds great , thanks and greetings from Spain
It`s Nita Strauss .. I`m drooling again ........ oh yes, saw her in June playing with Alice Cooper in Finland at the Tuska Festival, great show \m/
So. Much. Gain
+Wall OfNoise Gus G has a pretty solid tone from his. you're right, this is just ear bleeding noise
+Anthony Losty Distortion....Must...turn...down...
+Anthony Losty Exactly, Terribly set up. Sounds like a old $20 Peavey 15 watt amp I had in the 80's
+Anthony Losty Problem not with gain. Problem with tone.
+Anthony Losty It souds like having razor blades thrown at you...that would make my ears bleed.
Amazing....why all the haters in here? She plays for Alice Cooper and you never will....show some respect for this gorgeously talented artist!
Nita is cool, but you gotta love Alain Johannes!!
Saw you Nita last night w Alice Cooper. Awesome!
They should do another one but with Mat Sweeney interviewing Alain..he's very talented and creative on guitar and in his songwriting
Klasse gemacht gefällt mir außerordentlich gut Wünsche dir weiterhin gute Filme LG.Pidi
Yes Nita. The Crossroads is located in Clarksdale Mississippi. Legend says it's at the corner of Hwy 61 and Hwy 49. Marked by three guitars on a pole.
The fact that there's no mic on the cabinet doesn't do here much justice, sounds like her amp is lost in a cave.
For all you crapping on the tone, check out any of her Maiden vids or with Alice, its night and day. Her Black star sounds great with Alice.
Love the sweeps, I'm still trying to learn how to perfect them.
I love listening to her, she's an awesome personality and she just 'get's it'. Power on Nita!
Nita strauss.passion and ware fare.. merry Christmas 2021.. semper fi. A gem amongst us..
what happened to the other guy? (good to de Alain though)
so is it speed over musicality? In the words of Greg Howe, "use speed as a musical tool when it fits". She clearly is very technically competent, but speed for the sake of speed feels like its designed to impress rather than to be enjoyed and listened to.
what happened to the first guy the one who talked to tosin that guy had a chill vibe
What a smart, thoughtful, and beautiful human. Great, great interview!
I guess VICE and y'all had a falling out. too bad, this guy seems alright but Matt Sweeney is a national treasure.
wish Keith had been up to playing more but still it was cool to hear him talk about Ike and stuff. his Nike kicks were fresh too
This is an excellent example of why guitarists should learn to play rhythm guitar as well as lead and all the tapping and sweeping tricks. Ya gotta walk before you can run.
***** ...awesome.
I would love to rock with Nita one day!! =)
Yeah me too! ;)
Я тоже. И ещё с Кортни Кокс. Втроём! ;)
Maybe the reason it sounds like there is so much reverb, has to do with the fact they're in a giant concrete room? Their voices reverberate off the walls as is.
she needs a lot more reverb as if she were in a grand canyon on a different planet and connect several heavy-fuzz-distortion pedals in series
keep practicing guys, you will get there someday
James Rockford lol says the clown with 26 followers GTFO
Interesting... her example of classical music was amazingly similar to Becker's main sweeping section in Altitudes. Any more info on this? Btw, not criticizing, just wondering what she was playing.
WOW! What a talent. If not for the Alice Cooper Leftist BS attacks I would not have ever learned of this amazing talent. I will follow Nita. I need to get back into all of this. Such talent.
Best jam ever cheers
I like that Ibanez guitar she has...can you buy that off the rack?
+Slappy Marsden She basically uses the guitars off the rack, but I think she did have a bunch of stuff modified to it by Ibanez.
Steve Gunns Must be modified...I dont' see any trace of it on the Ibanez website.
+Slappy Marsden Yeah, as muchas I know, she had the bridge changed so she can make those crazy sounds. Plus, she always has the finish removed from the neck.
Nita is wrong, Paganini was considered the best guitarist of his day, in addition to being a great violinist. he wrote for both instruments.
what about Yngwie, he was the original shredder, 1st and best!
this was so sad. i feel bad for the both of them.
Crossroads changed my life. .
her tone literally sounds like line 6 insane mode. Jesus Christ.
+blviking56 LOL
The shit kids say...
That’s a really sweet looking S series - Anyone happen to know the exact model?
to all those complaining its how she was micd. when she rolled off the volume the true tone behind it actually swelled (if you listen hard enough) the tone is pretty awesome. but i agree it sounds like crap cause it was too trebbly

Rock on Nita!
Is she playing an Ibanez Premium with the bridge upgraded to an Ibanez Edge LoPro, or do they sell a premium model that comes with the Edge stock?
they sell the premiums but its top quality lol
Nita is expressing many positive observations about instrumental musicianship, and I am very impressed with her playing. it's girl power time - lets go!.
IS THAT GUY CARLOS SANTANA? Same voice.
I was really hoping Matt Sweeney would host this episode
does anyone know the model name of her Ibanez i love that guitar so thin with a floyd beautiful, message me if anyone knows
I love all the negative comments from people who aren't as good as she is. Guys that can't stand it that a girl is better than they are. Face it guys, girls are in the club now, some of them can outplay you (Nita can certainly outplay me), and you may not like it, but I think it's great.
if you've never been to NAMM before, the "jam" at the end is what NAMM sounds like everywhere you go.
Crossroads was a major jump off for me as a kid. I Never was a great lead player but that movie made guitar playing look amazing and fun!
This is the reason why people mock guitarists. Can't blame them.
love shawn lane! and I really wish they would find a different way to do the input jack on the S series. had one a few years ago and loved it but damn, that input placement destroys a nice top. :(
Yeah i don't like having the input jack on the top of the body either
Ibanez guitar through a Blackstar amp..... what do you expect; of course it's just going to be one dimensional shred metal overdrive.

The most amazing thing on this video is Alain Johannes trying not to laught at this guitar noise/babble.
AGREED!!!!! hahahaha
Someone knows which model is that ibanez? It's really nice
So cool!
she listened to Shawn Lane!!! : )
Man, reading a lot of your comments and you people are brutal. She's a shredder, that's what she likes. As far as her tone, I doubt she was going for pure tone here. With her style, which is like a classic shredder style, it works well enough. With that must distortion does tone really matter much?

That "jam" at the end was fucking awful.
+Bob Solo I never thought I had a soul, but I shat one out listening to that. It was so seized up it shattered when it hit the floor. My brain feels strangely flash-frozen now.
+Bob Solo
LOL! Shit yeah dude, pure fucking crap!
+whynottalklikeapirat your comment deserves an award my good sir
Stefan Vasic As does yours =.O
+Bob Solo my head ache got worse.
I am mostly a rock drummer. However, I have gotten books on many different styles.
I really love this girl's attitude. I think she's growing on me !
Missing some gain there
Rafael Kr high gain and scooped mids
DJENTus Maxxximus
I went to the crossroads, and I still suck.
awesome guitar player. great interview
Steve Vai is my biggest influence too, I’m into the same stuff. I can really relate to this.
All I can say is WOW!
I don't understand all the negative comments. Nita says in the interview she is self taught and never had a guitar lesson until recently. A good attitude can take a person a long way in any carrier they choose. She is touring the world doing something we have all dreamed about at one time or another. I had the pleasure of meeting Ryan Roxie and Nita when they came through Dallas TX with Alice Cooper. They were two of the nicest people I have met in rock & roll and Nita was a sweetheart. www.rebelsandstars.com
Self taught is nothing to do with it, I am self taught and know theory and technique.
please come to Sydney nita x
Looks like there are a lot of people being negative about her sound in the comments but to each their own. You personally have to be happy with your own sound and fuck what anyone else thinks. You all should know that. There are many people that I love their sound & several I don't but it no more matters what I think about their sound then it matters what they may think about mine. is this video available, for use on my channel? thank you
Easier way to get that kinda sound is to manually detune TV so that it shows blinking black n white dots aka white noise
Cool!!!
Do yourselves a favor and watch this with the 'CC' closed captions ON- Do not drink anything while viewing it seriously.
What is the model of your guitar? Please, help. Thanks :)
very nice great
Do you practice?
Her tone is pure fizz
turn down the frickin gain so i can hear the notes lady
She has a resemblance to Natasha Shneider, who was Alain's wife before she died in 2008. This had to be hard for him, poor guy!
4:10 reminds me of that adam sandler song "sloppy joe" wow... does she practice?
i dont know what the problem is guys?! the guitars sound fine for their respective players. Nita is just an old school shredder!
lovely
I fucking love Nita
That tone is THIN. Woof!
same playing by a male guitarist = 150 views
Wanted to just see how bad she was
Exactly. If she was a male she would not be famous whatsoever. She's a novelty because she's a female and attractive.
Shredding that myself and hundreds of other guys can do on youtube. But we're not cute pretty blonde women so nobody cares.
The Truth Hurts. She's completely average as a shredder.
Wiki you obviously can't play guitar whatsoever so your opinion is moot.
all the gain!!
