So I pressed them, "Why did you say he was a 'black guy'?" And they said, "Because he _was?_ And she got sort of defensive about that question, too, like I called her a racist. But I didn't, and it wasn't about that per se. But more about why she brought their race into it when the story had nothing to do _with_ race. So I said, "You could have merely said, 'So the other day, this _guy_ came over to me and asked what time it was.' But instead," I elaborated, "you chose to describe his race to me. Why?" And again, she got a little huffy about the question and said, "I told you! Because he _was_ black!" So I then explained how the race of the person had no bearing on the story, as it was a moot point, as there was no racial tension or problem about that person's race. And that's when I noticed the light bulb go off in her head. 💡 Just like it did for me when another friend of mine did the same thing when _I_ mentioned the racial makeup of a person where it didn't need it. 😝 This is how we _all learn,_ people. So when someone attempts to teach you something about yourself, don't get offended or yell at them; just think about what they're trying to teach you.
