I don't blame any kid being scared of this movie back in the day! It was animated with motion-capture tech for its time, which can be uncanny valley-looking (though that's something that works well for this movie, imo), and the concept art had kind of a "Norman Rockwell listening to Goth rock and death metal" vibes.

Shout out to that one mother who brings her little girl back to the house of the mean old man who stole her bike, and then says nothing to the fact that said old man is wearing nothing but a hospital robe, standing in a pit where his house used to be, with three small children, handing out toys.
I have a feeling that none of the kids in this world are safe, since the adults have literally zero sense of danger.
The house is like Derry from Steven King’s novels. All the adults just ignore all the odd things going on near that plot of land.

I think the idea they decided to go for was better. Having the house look like the insides of a human with real body organs would have been too over the top and would have kinda detracted from the horror. I think the fact that the house uses it's environment to assimilate the insides of a human body made it creepier.

Monster House really caught me off guard as a kid. I would be looking sideways at all the houses in my neighbourhood if it was dark and I would have nightmares about the house chasing me through my own house. (Physically impossible, I know.) But now its one of my favourite comfort films.

I remember being a wee lil babey in the movie theatre watching this. Almost half the kids got fuckin spooked in the first 10 minutes and left. I stayed for just over half of the movie and cried. That was the only time i went to the movies with my dad.

Bro the main menu for the dvd of this movie would literally jumpscare you at random times, so when I'd watch it at night, I'd wake up in the middle of the night to my tv still on, and delirious, I'd get jumpscared, also the hand scene scared me because my room was very similar to DJ's.
Anyways, back to looking up Monster House leaf pron.

This used to be one of my sister and I's favorite Halloween movies as kids. I think the only part I ever found truly disturbing was her getting covered in cement in the flashback to them building the house. That'll always be a bit of a disturbing thought of something that could happen on accident if you were maybe alone or enough cement to not be able to help.
Can't wait to watch this one, since it premieres right as my break starts
