- What an interesting couple of weeks it's been in the Adelaide Hills! Failures, rare combos & the return of the AK Cars have kept a smile on our faces, with Streamliners featuring more often than ever in recent years!
One Rail Australia, Southern Shorthaul Railroad & SCT Logistics services feature with locomotives CLP14 & 42103 leading their services, while CLF2 & CLF5 also feature on services in their own rare ways! Enjoy!

Seeing that 421 on the AK cars made me cast my mind back to the days of travelling on the 'Intercapital Daylight Express' between Melbourne and Sydney or intermediate stations, and how mostly at Albury when the locos were changed one would have a 422 for the run to Wagga Wagga and Sydney, but occasionally a 421. Great sounds!

Hey Matt! Epic video dude, I was so close to that spot at Belair as well! I think I saw you... maybe with a cool camera 🎥
The point were the SCT train entered the curve, running long end forward, (9.10) brought back some memories. I have 2 shots taken at that spot many years ago of a Bluebird on a Mt Gambier run (remember passenger trains??) and steam loco 520 working it's arse of with about 8 cars on (remember steam on suburban lines running out of Dry Creek?) I can still feel the power of Malcolm Barclay Harvey as it thundered past.

Amazing video. I am currently doing my placement at St John’s and our classrooms back right onto both the metro and freight line. I have noticed an increase in the amount of freight trains. In Friday there would’ve been at least eight between 7:00am-5:00pm... I love it..
Thanks Matt for another great video, the Adelaide Hills certainly look picturesque at the moment, love the way you capture the whole surroundings, not just the trains. I agree about your comment about SCT, I have heard they have ordered more locos of the CSR type, hopefully that may help SCT in the future. Some of those SCT locos must have a huge amount of kms on them by now.

More lovely work Matt! Seems I'm missing out again on all the good stuff..LOL . Callington curve looks like a good spot which I'll have to try on my next visit in late July:-)

Nothing like a road trip chasing some trains! We do thousands of kilometres a year chasing trains. I miss doing trips up to Port Augusta so I'll have to do a few in the new year! Thanks very much.

Fun fact for folks! If I remember correctly, the Adelaide Metro railways are not interchangeable with the freight railways- because while the freight is all standard gauge thanks to gauge unification, Adelaide Metro apparently didn't get the memo, and is still running wide gauge.
South Australia is funny like that. Couldn't have a decent one gauge rail system if we tried even over the last 100 years.

would it be possible for you to do a video on why SCT is having those kinds of issues and what do you think they might do to fix them. A history of the company would be nice too leading up to their current problems. Thanks
@@MS_Trains they shouldn't have sold the G class when they received the SCT class, from then on problem begin. And as first GT46C-ACe locomotives built only 15! Then on constant strain, CSR didn't help at all because of ore service added. Then problems accumulated too much. There was no long term solution to the problem. Personally I thought they should have bought 15-20 more of SCT class (maybe 20-30 not at once of course) instead of CSR units!
Not often you see an old NSWGR liveried locomotive.. :) Also is One Rail a merger of the G&W and another or did G&W buy the other company out? Has me wondering as the livery of the One Rail locos look almost the same to the G&W..
Yeah that gave me a jolt, grew up in NSW and it was very odd seeing a candy livery streamliner on track in SA (where I lived until recently)!
6 locomotives. Jesus, that tells me that they need to shorten these goods/freight trains. Its dangerous to have them so long.
Most of the Adelaide Hills is single track, these long trains breakdown often. Why doesn't the state and federal governments put a limit of the length and weight of these trains so that they are more efficient?
That would make them less efficient!

They are not efficient now.
Melbourne is the transport hub of Australia, the problem lies in Adelaide, not in Victoria or WA.
Adelaide Hills are a liability for rail transport.
Safety comes first, not irresponsibility.
@@garynewton1263 Agreed that the Adelaide Hills route is not optimal, but there isn't a viable alternative by rail (unless say a new railway was built from Mildura to Broken Hill, and various other standardisation occurred in Victoria such as from Gheringhap through Ballarat to Maryborough so trains didn't have to deviate via Cressy and Avoca).
But the route is 'safe', whether compared to road transport or on its own two feet.

Well Broken Hill will never get the Melb-Perth freight route. Victoria would never allow that.
I'm Pro rail but not a fan of really long trains.
I've witnessed a long freight train heading to Melbourne while I was in Belair National Park where one of the cars wheels had derailed.
The train was so long that the drivers had no idea that there was a problem.
I witnessed it whilst standing waiting to get to the other side.
If you had more trains that were shorter you wouldn't have as many breakdowns and you wouldn't need to use so many locomotives on one train.
