Elvis country is an amazing country/rock/blues mixed album. Sometimes people discuss what period of Elvis career was the best. I have listend to all his songs, concerts, outtakes and home recordings and after a long hard think I have come to the conclusion that Elvis made his best music in the years 1954-1977 😃

Great to see you having fun listening along Seph - excellent.
This song was recorded by Elvis on 7 June 1970 in Nashville and was the third song recorded that evening. Elvis had originally attempted a more typically country version on 4 June, the first day of the recording sessions. Although three takes ensued, it was the first take that was chosen as the master with the third designated as the alternate.
Post production took place on 30 June with brass and strings added before being released on the “Country” album. It would be the fourth track from side B, and this is another excellent performance, which is best enjoyed as a full version not the edited version from the original album

Another great banger song by the Elvis.

Elvis belting out this tune! I love it... his voice sounds so good, the orchestra also superb. He's having a great time in the studio, just Elvis and his musician friends! NB! It's an A rank song to me.

The reference to the mating of the doves in this song is not likely referring to the actual act, but rather the courtship and preening rituals of the doves, and based upon the context of the song, possibly to the fact that some dove species mate monogamously for life.

When this was written, everyone in Texas knew doves mated with lifelong partners. Unlike most animals.

"Faded Love" is a Western swing song written by Bob Wills, his father John Wills, and his brother, Billy Jack Wills. The tune is considered to be an exemplar of the Western swing fiddle component of American fiddle.
The melody came from an 1856 ballad, "Darling Nelly Gray", which John Wills knew as a fiddle tune. "Faded Love" is a sentimental song about lost love. The name comes from the refrain that follows each verse: "I remember our faded love".

I think when he said he watched the mateing of the Dove 🕊 he wasn't referring to the Act per say, he was referring to how Birds fluff up their feathers and strut around and preen to attract their future mate, meaning their courtship. 😆❤

I have a soft spot for this song. It's an A or B for me. Written and performed by Bob Willis's band (sung by Tommy Duncan) in 1950. Country swing. Bob Willis was famous back in the day. Bob Willis and the Texas Playboys. Bob Willis was a character. Made me laugh every time I saw his band. He wrote some good stuff, but he was really silly and fun. When you have the time, you should really give a listen to some of the original artists, but you should watch Willis on film. He's so funny. Of course, Elvis cover is a step up. I can't find a filmed version of this song but check this one out (San Antonio Rose). 40 seconds in Tommy Duncan comes in. The fella on the left is Bob Willis. ruclips.net/video/0ksWnpvs1e4/видео.html I swear I don't know how Tommy was able to sing and not breaking out into uncontrolled laughing.
P.S. Bob Willis played the violin/fiddle with a cigar in his mouth.

For me this song beats "Snowbird" with doves' wings 😉
No, seriously I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE this song!
    THE HARMONICA IS EVERYTHING!
NO VIOLINS! YAY! THANK BLOODY HECK FOR THAT 😂😂😂
AND YES SEPH IT IS JAMES BURTON ON THE GUITAR.
Well there's also Elvis, Chip Young, and Charlie Hodge listed as he guitar players on the June 4-8 Nashville session recordings.
Charlie McCoy is the guy you hear on the harmonica.
    Jerry Carrigan on the drums.
    David Briggs on the piano.
And of course Norbert "Put" Putnam on the bass.
    Quick song info:
Faded Love" is a Western swing song written by Bob Wills, his father John Wills, and his brother, Billy Jack Wills.
The song was a major hit for Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys (MGM 10786) reaching number eight on the Country charts in 1950. It became one of his signature songs.
Patsy Clone covered this song in 1963 and when she first read the lyrics to "Faded Love" she was like, "What are y'all tryin' to do? K*ll me?"
She had a tumultuous/ rocky marriage with her second husband. But he really did love her. After Patsy Cline expired (I'll say that) in a plane crash he never re- married and just focused on raising their two girls.
She was a legit legend. Women in country music back in the day got screwed out of their pay day after a performance (usually). Patsy changed the game. She refused to go on stage until the venue manager paid her and her musicians. She used to say, "No dough, no show."
She was friends with Carl Perkins and other male country music artists and they all said that Patsy would laugh at their dirty jokes and then tell even dirtier jokes to make them laugh.
She was also a really generous person. Like Elvis she was big on charity. (She too grew up poor but in West Virginia).
And fun fact: Patsy greatly admired Elvis. It's said that she was there in the audience of the Grand Ol' Opry during Elvis's one and only performance there. She called him- out of respect- "Big Hoss".
She got to meet him in 1962 at the St. Jude's Children Hospital fundraiser in Memphis and they exchanged phone numbers.
Unfortunately she passed away the following year.
So I like to think that when Elvis covered this song he was in his own way paying his respects to Patsy.
Recording session info will be in a separate comment.
GREAT REACTION! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE SEPH LISTEN TO PATSY'S VERSION OF THIS SONG! IT'S MY MOM'S FAVORITE SONG PATSY COVERED 💖 MY MOM HAD A CASSETTE & A CD OF PATSY'S GREATEST HITS!
I'M NOT REALLY A FAN OF COUNTRY BUT I JUST *ADORE* PATSY 😍💖😍💖😍💖😍💖 *BIG PATSY CLINE FAN*
THANK YOU SO MUCH SEPH FOR SHARING 💐
    TCB ⚡ & TLC ❤ & peace ✌& blessings 🙏 to you & yours & to one & all here as well 💕
P.S. "The mating of the doves" means watching two love birds billing and cooing. You know just being all cuddly and lovey- dovey together.

Patsy was the female Elvis as far as the voice goes. Great alto singer. I once had a friend who knew her and her family. They lived in West Virginia, close to Patsy's mother's home in Gore, Virginia. She said Patsy could have treated her husband better.

@@jjbud3124 I do know she was married twice. The way her story is told Patsy was bored with her first husband and found her second husband more exciting. I do know they had their fights. I don't judge pertaining to her marriages. Things happen and are said between a married couple behind closed doors that everyone else may not be aware of. Patsy's marriage was her and her husband's business.
I just love her voice. Yes female Elvis. I totally agree!

@@jjbud3124 Yes, me too. Love them both. Marriage is not for everyone. I was never married so I don't feel comfortable judging other peoples' marriages.
My Aunt was married... God I don't even know. 6 times? My Mom's grandmother was married 4 times (admittedly though her case was different, she just outlived 2 of her husbands; her first one took off on her and her 4th husband was her "forever" one.)
My Mom had a cousin (I think; could have been an Aunt though; can't remember; my Mom came from a big family) that took off on her first husband after having six kids with him. She took the youngest two with her to Mexico and ended up marrying a guy that did not treat her well and had four kids by him (I think). Anyway she became a doctor and started a clinic down there.
I come from a flock of strange birds admittedly 😂

@@sammy_the_uncool2702 One of my sons never married. He's 63. An uncle and a nephew never did either. I was married for almost 10 years to my first and had 2 kids. He passed away from heart disease at age 30. I met my second husband and I've been married to him for 56 years. We have one son. Both were good marriages. I guess I know how to pick 'em. 😀

Lol, Seph! I know its an uncomfortable line. Lol. Ive sang this song at karaoke many times and it always struck me odd. Its a way old song and i think people back in those old fashioned days didnt have minds like we degenerates today. Lol.
Being a bird watcher myself id say that lyric is to imply the way male birds primp for the female and the courtship dance that goes on. Ive never actually seen birds "doing it". I think they must require privacy. But then i was told by someone once that they do it in flight. Lol. Who knows. But i got a good giggle from your reaction. Have a great weekend!

Seph: Western Swing by Bob Wills. CLASSIC!!!! Elvis and the entire band would have known these by heart, from growing up in the 1930s-40s, & touring Texas in the 50s. Bob Wills is REVERED in Texas. He ruled Country/Western music back then! In the 1970s Waylon Jennings had a big hit called “Bob Wills Is Still the King”. It’s a banger you should listen to!There is an old 1950s interview with Bob Wills, where he states that he: “didn’t understand all the ruckus over the new ‘rock & roll’ music. That’s what we’ve been playing around Texas since the 1930s”
