This is the most understandable tutorial I ever come across. I am more of a visual learner and I thank you so much for providing material images for better understanding. I am wanting to pursue my interest in photography & perhaps videography again. Hoping for more visual tutorials from you.
I normally don't comment on youtube but I just wanna say wow. I arrived on this video interested on buying the R50, not knowing anything about cameras but your tutorial made me a little bit confident on understanding these things. An actual tutorial for beginners that everyone can understand. Thank you so much!
@connormccaskill Thank you! Any insight on using it to photograph the stars? Trying to build an astronomy channel but the gear to peoperly record through my cheap telescopes is very expensive..was hoping that a camera would help push me to the next level without breaking the bank for the short term. Appreciate your time
This is hands down the best tutorial. Exactly what I was looking for, covering everything from the basics of this camera to making us understand the exposure settings. Thanks a lot
Dude, such a good video. I’ve been watching camera stuff as an aspiring filmmaker for years trying to understand all the different terms and in 20 minutes I actually learned what they mean with the camera I wanna buy. Finally moving off an iPhone! Massive props to you and thank you 🙌
I just ordered the R50. Itll be here next Thursday. Super excited and now that I watched this video I wont be crazy confused using it out the box. Thanks for this video its very thorough and helps a lot!
I got the R50 this week and found this video very useful. I learned a lot regarding the settings and different photography terms and how to apply. Thank you!! ❤
Manual is a great. But if you feel overwhelmed starting off with Aperture priority is great. You pick your aperture and the camera will select everything else. Then you can use Shutter priority. Once you get the hang of those then going manual isn’t as overwhelming. If you want to “run and gun” aperture priority works really well.
Excellent video and tutorial. I am strongly considering purchasing this camera to start my RUclips channel. This video has pretty much confirmed my decision to buy it. Thank you!
Man I just got my camera Friday! And been glued to RUclips trying to get understanding on the proper settings for a beginner your video helped me so so much.
thank you so much mannnnnnn!!! finally a video that makes sense. Now i understand this camera better and i've had it for almost a year! (i'm a super beginner) again, thank you :)
Hello Connor. I just wanted to say thank you. I am a true beginner. My Canon R50 just arrived and your video has been very helpful. You have a great way of explaining things. Ben
Hey man i just bought my camera today and i capture 3-4 pictures and 1 slow motion video. After seeing this tutorial for 1 time i am confident enough that i can pull some great images, i already know some teminology as i have 5 years of experience in mobile photgraphy. Again Thank you so much man this means a lot that you made a very simple and understanding videos like this. also one day I will be like you shooting some extra ordinary shoots
Excellent video! I just purchased this camera today and this video has helped greatly! I would for sure give a "Menu Step 1" advice to be "adjust your auto dimmer and camera shut off!" lol.. for the first 5 minutes i kept thinking my battery wasn't charged; yet it was just the option that was switched on for screen dimmer and auto shut off. The option is located under the Wrench icon, page 2, under "Power Saving." Again, superb beginner advice and to-the-point definitions of things a noob like me need to hear (ISO, aperture, etc etc)
This sounds like completely new camera. I’ve been put off because camera phones are so good now but I am tempted with this one when I can afford it. It seems to have a lot of really good features and useful spec. Very impressed on everything I’ve read and heard about it.
Solid summary! I would add that the Camera Connect app can also be used to add location data to your images and videos, but if you use the same app to send pics to your phone, the location data does not come for the ride. Images copied from the SD card directly DO keep the location data.
This video was very informative and amazing. I am getting into the Videography and Marketing business and you showed me everything I needed to know. Thank You!
On your tutorial with the camera, you show each location of a button and it's function. That helps me a lot! And your voice is clear, not run on sentences. Right now, my question/s, why is the price and year of many products hardly mentioned? What year is the Canon EOS R50? And what is the price range?
Glad you found the video mostly helpful! It’s difficult to cover everything in one video is the thing and the price tends to fluctuate. I have a link to the camera in the description if you want to continue your research.
I am not a beginner but I did just purchase the R50. I needed something small for hiking and biking. This is a great beginner video! I am hoping to make great use of the touch screen.
Hello Connor. Thank you for the video. I just upgraded from the Canon R100 to the Canon R50 and I need help with settings. I get the message from my Windows Media Player, “We can’t open the file. It used unsupported encoder settings.” I also notice that the files are massive. I had a short video that was 8 gigs in size. This leads me to think that I can utilize a smaller file size, but I don’t know which setting gives me something that is supported. ChatGPT mentioned 7 options: 1. Verify the Video Format and Codec 2. Update my media player 3. Install Codec Packs 4. Transcode the Video. 5. Check system requirements for H.265 (???) 6. Try a different application 7. Update my graphics drivers. Before I go down any of those rabbit holes, I wanted to check with someone who has experience with the camera to help. There may be a simpler way that I’ve passed up. What do you suggest?

Just wondering if we have to adjust the settings manually every time we are switching from video mode to picture mode. Thanks again for the great video.
