Although I agree the sequel is amazing and deserves a big screen watch, I would not be opposed to seeing your first time reaction here instead. That's me being selfish though. You do you and enjoy how you want to! ❤
Stan Lee is co creator of Spiderman with Steve Ditko. The number 42 you keep seeing in the movie is to honor Steve Ditko's love of baseball in which he put the number 42 in the first comic back in the 1960s to honor Jackie Robinson of the Brooklyn Dodgers. 42 being significant for the first black player in professional baseball during the age of segregation and now 42 was used to introduce Miles as the first person of color to be behind the Spiderman mask.
I appreciate Doc Ock's character design in this film. With her beehive hairstyle, long face, pointed chin, and large round goggles, her head really looks like an octopus head. I also like how Kingpin is designed so that he takes up almost all the visual space in every shot he's in.
Doc Ock: "My friends call me Liv." Later... Aunt May: "Oh great, it's Liv." Aunt May and Doc Ock are or, at least, were friends. Also, I don't know if you caught it, but Peter Porker, aka Spider Ham, was a _spider_ that got bitten by a radioactive _pig_
This was a blast. Im glad you liked it. It was fun watching a DC girl 'dip her toe' into the Marvel waters and enjoy it. I'm pretty confident in saying that you'll absolutely adore 'Across The Spider-Verse'! It does what every great sequel should do and takes it to the next level.
So Sony released part of the script for this shortly after it came out and the scene where Miles is falling and it flips is meant to symbolize him rising to the task of being Spider-Man. Also Spider-Ham eating a hod dog isn't an issue because he was a spider bitten by a radioactive pig.
This story just completely surprised me. I wish id seen it in theaters when it first released. Thankfully, we live in an era where classics do get replayed in large theaters.
@@LordVolkov the awesome film and animation techniques they used to create the out of focus and comic book visual is actually a really cool idea. I don't know ow if this film pioneered it, or maybe other animation styles led up to this, but it is really cool, from a film perspective. B/c, yeah, it forces the audience into viewing specific sequences on the screen. Very cool concept.
I think a lot of people missed it when it first came out. I almost did but there was enough nerdy conversation at the time that I went out of my way to try and find it. But when I tried to convince people afterwards I don't think anyone believed me. This is a movie that has definitely benefited from modern cinema and streaming culture.
Fun details but Miles universe is actually based heavily on the Ultimate Universe (Earth-1610) from the comics, created as a re-imagined and modernized versions of the Marvel superhero's from the main Prime Universe (Earth-616) with both large and small changes starting with Ultimate Spider-Man in the year 2000. Some changes you may noticed like the Ultimate Green Goblin who's closer to that of a monster than a man in a Goblin suit like we see in Earth-616 and in Spider-Man 1 for example along with most versions of the character in media. Peter B Parker the Spider-Man who was sucked into Miles universe is from Earth-616 the main comic Universe where everything is alot closer to our universe like brand names for example. In Miles universe there's some weird spelling differences you may notice and the NYPD is called the PDNY (Police Department of New York?) in Miles universe which is pretty interesting it's like our own universe but a little different the adverts, movies, and even car brands reflect this. Peter B Parker is more or less inspired by Earth-616 Peter but we can't say for sure if he's the Earth-616 Peter from the comics or just happened to be called Earth-616 in this film displayed on Kingpins computer. There not one to one re-creations for example Miles in the comics had no connection to the Multiverse in his origin this all came later once he became Spider-Man. Peter had brown hair not blonde and also died at 16 rather than in his 20s. Miles did become Spider-Man after the death of Peter but the events surrounding his death was different to that seen here. Also Male Doc Ock does exists in the Ultimate Universe so the idea of this Doc Ock in the film is solely created for this movie. Also the Ultimate universe in terms of brands and pop culture is the same as ours so no alternate spellings and there was even a panel where a robber was wearing a Batman mask. So the whole alternate brands, adverts, and spellings was created for this film. Overall this film is a blast and I'm so glad they went all in on the comic book look and feel. Not a big fan of the trend Dark Knight started with these grounded and "realistic" Superhero films so I love that we've been getting films like this along with stuff like Peacemaker, Suicide Squad etc. Style over being too realistic.

if you dont know Gwen Stacy in the original Spiderman comic was Peter Parker's first love interest. She was with him in the field trip when he gets bit by the spider. She thrown off a bridge and tragically died. Peter was able to catch her with his web but she still hit head on the ground. SpiderGwen is a version of Gwen Stacy that instead of Peter being bit in the field trip she is the one that gets bit and turns into Spiderwoman. In her version of the comic Peter dies and becomes her "Uncle Ben". Her comic became popular very quickly similar to Miles Morales.
35:44 Oh it gets worse! Given how anything from another dimension starts glitching when it gets pulled over what Kingpin plans to do is basically temporarily gets a new wife and son so he can watch them die slowly as their cells disintegrate.
So glad you enjoyed this film, This could end up being one of the best trilogies of all time up there with Guardians of the Galaxy, Captain America, Eastrail 177, X-Men, and The Dark Knight . This and it's sequel are amazing so everything's building towards "Beyond the Spider-Verse releasing next year.
PLEASE tell me you caught the final scene with Miguel O'Hara/Spider-Man 2099? I love this movie so much, the amount of work and care that went into it is awesome.
Maybe the most incredibly animated Kirby Krackle ive ever seen, they nailed it perfectly and it blew my mind right open :D also Steve Ditko was the man who drew Spider-Man.
While it's a great movie, just full stop no qualifiers, it's also an amazing adaptation of the comicbook medium. There's so many flourishes that when you know you know. It made me think of all the horrible animated movies turned kids books that have been published over the years. This movie could be copy and pasted straight into a comic book and would work. More than that it would be a gorgeous and really cool comic. While I am never interested in litigating who gets create, I will say this is probably more of a Lee Spider-man movie than Ditko. I think the only thing about the movie Ditko might have liked was an unambiguously heroic police officer. Meanwhile this is like the ultimate of the Stan Lee's ethos.
There are some great moments to look out for on a rewatch. When Miles is stuck to Gwen''s hair and she tells him to relax hits very differently when you realise she's actually telling him HOW to let go. Peter B Parker is my favourite though, the veteran Spiderman who's been doing it so long that when asked for advice on being Spiderman he doesn't go for anything inspirational or encouraging but instead is the voice of long experience, encouraging baby powder in the joints and disinfecting the mask. The little things only someone doing the job a LOOOONG time would think of as being the important stuff lol

Maybe deep down he never wanted to hurt a child and thought that when he gets the chip, Kingpin might forget the kid.

I love that you went into this without much knowledge of the Marvel comics history, not a lot of people were terribly surprised by Spider-Gwen which means you had twice the surprise reveals. Also, as far as Spider-Ham goes, lots of people thought he was made up for this movie, like Penni Parker was (I think). This is owing to the fact that Spider-Ham had a comic book of his own. I'm pretty sure it didn't even make it to 10 books, but it was out there. He kicked things off in a team up with Captain Ameri-Cat to take down the Incredible Hulk-Bunny! 😆
Just to clarify Peni Parker and SP//Dr were not made for this movie they were made in 2014 by writer Gerard Way(MCR lead singer and creator of the umbrella academy) and artist Jake Wyatt
Jus in case you go further into the Marvel world, it's best to split into 2, You have the MCU which should be done in release order, because the story all kind of travels in a direction, interconnects & during/after the credits you have clues, teasers, not spoilers. Then you have everything else, the Sony movies (Spiderman), The Fox movies (X-men & Fantastic Four), the Netflix series Daredevil, Jessica Jones etc... plus more. Both are sizeable pieces of content, most of it good, some of it great, with the odd how did that slip through. Personally I love DC, Marvel & the indie stuff, but take each franchise/movie on it's individual merits, they all have something to appreciate, thanks for this reaction, and yes fun sport in Marvel, where's Stan lol!!!
Glad to see your watching this film, it's a fun little marvel movie that doesn't go in to all of the MCU , so it's a fun pick....also interesting pick for this week for you, about a hero getting powers trough an arachnid bite😅😅😅
It's not that complicated. Toby Maguire has 3 Andrew Garfield has 2 Tom Holland has 3 but they're interwoven into the MCU. Into The Spiderverse Has 2 movies.
I kinda wonder why gwen is the only one who not only got put into a different universe but always a different time (1 week in the past) howf she get permission to go to that version of that school in that universe an why an how did she get a job at that lab where the collider was made? Especially at her age. 🤔
Lauren you're back I missed you already a week where have you been❤ I love your reaction to spider man In the spider verse And My favorite part is miles's dad you gotta say I love you back😂😂I just saw spider man across the spider verse in theaters on Sunday! Is this like your start of watching Marvel on your channel cause I know that you're a DC fan Me Too! I also like Marvel. I'm just so happy your back my friend🥰🥰🥰
wanna know how good across the spider verse is? there's a scene in it, (no spoilers), that is a literal scene from man of steel. and that finaly gave me the answer as to why i could never get into the characters and the writting of the snyderverse movies. to me, just that scene alone not only proved to me, why MoS didnt work, it actually gave me the explanation as to why it didnt. why i always felt like in MoS that question is a setback that fundamentaly changed Clark into a worse character. while in spiderverse, its used to make Miles a better super hero. its insane to me, as the more i watch that scene, the more details i can grasp from it, as to why it worked there(but didnt in MoS). and that's just 1 scene from a 2.5 hours movie.
Pro tip about the spiderman movies. Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield, and the spiderverse movies can be done on their own. I would suggest doing Andrew Garfield's movies before doing across the spiderverse just because across the spiderverse touches on a moment from the Garfield movies and having that context enhances the experience. Now for Tom Holland. You probably are aware of this but Tom Holland's movies are in the mcu. That means you have to take the swan dive before you can do his movies.
Thanks Lauren, trouble is there isn't a lot of "dipping" that's possible - the MCU is so integrated. These movies, yes. Deadpool, yes. The first couple of Guardians of the Galaxy. Werewolf by Night. But that's about it.
Also, just saw the sequel. Do NOT miss it on the big screen!
This series is totally worth the full cinema experience.
i saw it twice in the cinema and I genuinely wanna go again cause it's so much better on the big screen

We never get to see his face.. Kinda want to
When you get a chance to go online streaming and check out Spider-Man across the spider-verse!
You said it. It's the best comic book I've ever watched.
I really loved Peter B Parker an older Spiderman who done the job so much he's over everything I enjoyed that
Homer Simpson predicted the spider pig thing🤯. Seriously, who would have guessed back then.
I love this movie so much!
Lauren dipping her toes into Marvel!!! Lets goooooooooo!!! A great pick too!!! If you loved this one then you definitely need to react to the sequel.
Don't forget to watch the end credits of this movie. It's worth watching
Hey Laurenn, you should watch M. Night Shyamalan's Unbreakable, Split and Glass.
Arguably the best Spider-Man movie ever! (Haven't seen the new one yet)
can we say this is the start of your marvel journey perhaps? 😄
Watch the movie Mulholland Drive it's a great movie. :)
Oh my goodness, this movie is INCREDIBLE.
Just wait until you see ACROSS The Spider Verse
* hand on shoulder *
HEY 😎
Thanks Lauren, trouble is there isn't a lot of "dipping" that's possible - the MCU is so integrated. These movies, yes. Deadpool, yes. The first couple of Guardians of the Galaxy. Werewolf by Night.
But that's about it.
Welcome to the Spider-Verse.
Love this movie, can't wait to see the sequel. ♥️💙 ❤️🖤👍
You missed the after credit scene
Miles is awesome
