It wasn't a dream. All that happend in Queencard DID happen, but it started in Allergy, after the Shuhua lesson on how to be a queen. She runs out of the lesson, and meets Minnie. The 1st scene in Queencard, is also the end, when she walks out of the surgery (without having done it) but with a new confidence, so (back to the 1st scene of Queencard), she goes out at night, imagining she looks like Minnie. In all the Queencard scenes, at 1st, where you see Minnie, that's actually Soyeon, which is why you hear often Soyeon's voice but not see her. And that is why there are always the Flashbacks showing Soyeon. In the end, is the reveal that she didn't actually get through with surgery, but walked out instead. We also learn that, the next day when she wakes up home and goes outside, and starts receiving all the messages and pictures from the previous night, that all the scenes from the beginning of the MV, really happend and were actually Soyeon the whole time, and that's when she realises that all you need to BE pretty, is to FEEL pretty. Therefor the title of the Album: I feel. It's not about how you look, but about how you FEEL about yourself.
37:33 You nailed it at the end without realizing it. She wasn’t getting external validation from her phone at the end, she was no longer letting it affect her, positively or negatively, she was now had confidence in herself after her realization.
What he missed is that the girls are switching to soyoun cuz she realized she can be that girl ! By accepting and loving herself and realizing she doesn't need to change a thing
i also feel like he missed the part in Allergy that shows her seeing these cool/happy girls on social media she wants to be like, who behind the scenes are also looking at others they want to be like, or who are overall still unhappy. (Like Miyeon who is jealous of Minnie for the bf, and yet Minnie despite having the bf and all these followers still looks lonely and isolated) But then Soyeon sees them posting online and shes trying to be like them
I'll just add that she is happy the moment that she walks out of the clinic (before the phone blows up with validation) and she even appears more beautiful as she walks and stretches due to her newly acquired self-confidence. This shows that the validation wasn't needed at all. She was already satisfied and when the validation came then she noticed it, shut it off, and put it into her pocket.
actually soyeon got criticized a lot during the debut era since the korean said she’s not that pretty enough (based on korean standard) which is not cuz she’s freaking hot. so watching allergy mv is kinda sad for me
I first saw her in Tomboy, in the kitchen scene, I was totally gobsmacked by her looks, then I found out how talented she really is, producing, writing, performing. She's an absolute machine.
She internalized that period, she was 17 years old. Allergy is how she feels and most intensely when she was a trainee. Sadly, Queencard isn't how she feels now, it's how she imagines Yuqi feels; saying Yuqi is the most confident human being she has ever met. That stuff got to her so much that for years she projected an aloof ice queen in content to protect herself. Only lately she relaxed and is more often in content a clumsy dorky anime otaku.
I have always felt that the ending is really appropriate. She shuts the whole thing down and moves on. If it was earlier, it wouldn't have the validity of it no longer having power over her. You have to remember that this is a super dangerous subject in her country. G Idle could be seriously cancelled for the whole thing. Lol...it also took me multiple viewings to see that Soyeon replaces each of the members in her dream with herself.
That is not a dream sequence, the frames just was not in choronology order...SY basically realized she does not need the plastic sugery at the end of the Allergy...and she went to the party with full confidence (the 4th item of how to be a queen) and found out ppl liked her because of her new found confidence.
My take on Queencard: The night before the surgery she goes out partying and is feeling confident in herself because she thinks that she wil become what she needs to be socially accepted. In the mv, most of it is her seeing herself in the various people she wants to be and realises that the previous night she was everything she wanted to be, simply because she was confident in who she is - this is very much playing of one of the movies that was a big inspiration for the song. When she wakes up, she realises she doesn't need the surgery and leaves. As she is leaving, she dies get all that validation on social media, but she chose the phone, puts it in her pocket and walks on ignoring it, happy in who she is. She originally was going to only have Allergy as the title track, drawing on times when she describes herself as having a "mirror allergy", but wanted a positive message. As well as movie inspirations, she said she had always been inspired by Yuqi's self-confidence and self-belief, which is why she wrote Queencard.
You can see she accepted herself when she woke up before she got the comments from netizen that's the core message. Even though nobody reacted to her, she's still in love herself she doesn't care about the commentary anymore, right!
How could you not figure it out? The “I don’t need them” line is the key. She’s seeing things through the eyes of the other members and feeling how they feel, and learning how and why they’re so “popular”. Confidence breeds popularity, not the other way around.
In my opinion, the message wasn't "You are enough", it was "I understand that you sometimes don't feel like you're enough". It's a much more subtle message but to me it's more powerful. I don't know, Soyeon is a genius so if the message isn't deep enough, I tend to think I've got the wrong message. She's like RM. She's not gonna come out with a simple "girl don't listen to social media" message. And in fact this kind of messaging is tiresome. Like it or not, social media and filters and stuff is a part of our lives now. Not knowing what's real and what's not is a part of our lives and it's only going to get worse. So just saying "don't mind all that stuff" isn't a good message for young people. Saying "man I get why that stuff affects you, it affects me too and I have a whole team slaving over me all day to make me look like the best version of myself but I still don't know what to make of any of it." Needing validation, not wanting to need validation, accepting myself, trying to be better, following the crowd, going my own way... It's just a mess. And I think it's facetious to claim we're not affected and we know how to deal with all of it, all the time.
Brilliant reaction! Idle is my favorite girl group. I got the message immediately but I’m also 71. Soyeon went through a lot of negativity on her journey into K-pop and it comes out in her writing. Social media is a huge part of life and I think the ending was just the realization that everyone loved her all along and she is fantastic the way she is, so she made the right decision by walking away.
Roscoe seems to miss or discard the significance of her closing and putting away the phone at then end. Someone still wanting the validation and confirmation would be locked into that phone and not putting it away.
i love your reactions, Roscoe! great insight and interpretations of the messages in thier songs also love the She's All That reference, Rachel Leigh Cook was my first major celebrity crush for many years
Minnie is the top dog and yoga instructor. Minnie follows her after they meet before surgery. You are right that it still rests on external validation. But she already had the confidence when Minnie validates her. So the social media likes are just icing on the cake.
Hope I'm not repeating prior comments; if so, my apologies.... First, it appears that Roscoe prefers a 'stand-alone' approach to artistic expression, rather than one that has a lot of contextual and external references. I believe Soyeon is one of those creators that tends to the other end of the spectrum. The many, many references to other movie/video sources crammed into these two videos is just one example of that tendency. More specifically, as devoted fans will recognize, these two videos are strongly autobiographical for Soyeon, who was widely and cruelly abused on social media as a young (17!) girl appearing by herself on the Produce 101 and then Unpretty Rapstar (really) shows before eventually achieving success--and yes, popularity--as leader of (G)-idle. Apart from that, the reaction fails to note that the messaging in Queencard is not just about Soyeon's character transforming her relationship with herself, it is also about her transforming her relationship with other women, which not coincidentally parallels Soyeon's journey from a solo winning rap battles to a leader celebrating her 'red five diamonds.' More generally, the women in Allergy are jealous of and in competition with each other. In Queencard, they identify with (literally), celebrate, and support each other. With that, the social media approval at the end of Queencard can be seen as both as a reflection of what Soyeon herself experienced, and what can be the positive side of being social and making positive connections.
The final part after she confirmed she liked herself as herself & she starts getting all the likes. She puts the phone away bc she realizes that real life is not the way it looks on social media & she doesn't need their validation to feel good about herself.
Yup she picks up the phone, and sees the acceptance, but puts it down and moves on because she realizes that she doesn't need all of that to find herself lovable and accept herself as she was.
it was early 2000's vibe of disney movie where in the ending it was all the dream but some magic happen that some part of it was real. shes already beautiful but she didnt have the confidence but later on the mv that she realized that she didnt need anything to beautiful
There were also a seriesof short vids that teased the songs from the album, and established the relationships between the group and their characters in both MVs. That's just how I-DLE works =)
Thank you!!!!! I love it!!!!! I love your reaction!!! G-Idle is wonderful, amazing!!!! ❤❤❤❤❤
I get what Roscoe was saying about it looking like she received the validation and walks away happy now....but..idk, as a girl myself who..to this day (24yr old) struggles with my self-image and feeling like I'm not good enough.....he might not have felt like the ending hit hard, but I cried the first few times i watched it. Because it wasn't about getting social media validation at the end, it was more like a message of "it's ok, people will still like you for who you are even if you don't change yourself to look like those girls. Just put yourself out there and be more confident in yourself." (which even that is something ive been struggling with lately because ive been pushing myself further and further away from poeple and things i like due to insecuries)
everytime one of the girls appeared she'd turn into soyeon at the end of the scene as if in that dream she had, under anesthesia ,she experienced each of their lives and then she figured out that they all had insecurities no matter how perfect they are on the outside they all can feel pretty ,sexy , ugly, lonely, all can have 'mirror allergy' so part of the storyline that no one mentioned is that minnie's current boyfriend is miyeon's ex which they mentioned their breakup in 'allergy' mv and miyeon looked at them with jealousy in the party so although she looked perfect and was envied by soyeon she had her own insecurity, minnie is the popular hot girl that has everybody around her but none of them are her real friends including her boyfriend so she also envied others for having real friends that's why we see miyeon walking up to her and hugging her, soyeon is the girl that doesn't fit in the beauty standards and envies the other girls but no matter how perfect u are you will always feel something's lacking compared to others so u should love urself for who u are and be confident and u will eventually find real friends or genuine ppl who appreciate you for you which are the messages or cmnts she received at the end on the picture from the party that she had taken b4 the surgery n posted so she realizes once again that she'll be loved for who she is and all that she lacked b4 was not what others have but she lacked confidence.. so this is not only abt your relationship with urself and loving urself but also abt how that affects ur relationship with others + spreading positivity to each other ..there are also alot of small details that help you understand the story better if you watch the whole thing as a movie and not just focus on the lyrics and a few scenes...
You perfectly pointed out and explained the commentary of Allergy Queencard the song itself is totally opposite to Allergy so to follow the story is simple yet confusing The dream sequence is a dream with a mix up of fantasy and actual memories, the main character did clubbing before the surgery, trying to be as cool as people she wants to be like It's a loop, ups and downs in self confidence/ self acceptance/ external validation/feeling down The both songs kind of loop together (Allergy started with the song Queencard, Queencard started with the plot of Allergy) The purpose is to both feel confident but also feel validated even when we are not confident and look for external validation, self depreciation I totally get that the message could be even stronger But I do think that both "feeling confident like a Queencard" & "seeking for the unnecessary external validation" make us valid as human (I FEEL BLUE/ I FEEL YOU) we have the right to not be ok, I think it's also the message
I think the anesthesia makes her hallucinate being at the party which shows her how superficial her validation wishes are. She wakes up and says screw this before the surgery starts. Once she rejects plastic surgery and decides she is good as herself (internal validation), she starts to get the validation externally from the same places it seemed to be missing before. Her self-confidence was dependent on social media in allergy and she was depressed; once she said F all that and rejected plastic surgery she had real confidence and that ironically attracted her the social media attention and likes -- which are so superficial that they don't even matter. I feel you tells the ones who have a mirror allergy that she Soyeon (now a popstar and queencard) feels them. Apparently Soyeon used to think she was ugly and so it is autobiographical.
(g)-idle in general, but Soyeon in particular, are a blessing for the industry. Soyeon has built the group from the ground, and she builds her members up too, helps them grow creatively and professionally. A true example of a girl’s girl. Edit: I think as much as I love the MVs, we also shouldn’t ignore the music. For me, Soyeon is making girls think and feel in Allergy, and that can take an emotional teen DOWN. So following it up with Queencard to build them up from the ground again is fantastic imo. Edit 2: I think you are missing cultural context. American society is much more individualistic. She is just framing the validation as a nice bonus instead of a need, and I feel like that’s a lot already in their society. And honestly, I think it’s fair for kids. They will get the feedback in social media. The fact that she takes it in stride, and PUTS THE PHONE AWAY, is what kids will remember I think. Because they would NEVER put the phone away with so many notifs, they would check EVERY SINGLE ONE. But she puts it away and doesn’t even join the cool girls. Also glad Soyeon showed the cute girls struggling too. She would never put other women down!
When she curse her own name I read that soyeon means something like pretty or somerhing like that but because of the comments that she was ugly on produce 101 she was thinking she waa ugly so she cursed her own name because it meant she was pretty or beutifoul
The thing about Minnie following Soyeon on Instagram in the video was a big thing because in the video, Minnie was the only one with a boyfriend. With Minnie being the only girl with a boyfriend would mean every other girl would think Minnie is way more good looking than everyone else. So Minnie following the girls basically boosts the girls' confidence, and tells them that theyre also beautiful the way that they are. Hope this helps.
_Freddy is _*_hot_* What a fabulous video which deliciously points out the *pressure* we all are under - particularly the "idols" - to be a 10, because magazines, social media, ads 99.9% of the time, use *perfect beauty* in their campaigns to increase interest and sales. We are so brainwashed and insecure we turn our ire towards anyone who doesnt, in our eyes and mind, meet that perfect standard. Lets try harder to be confident and content in simply who we are - awesome Roscoe!! 💖
I-Dle are really a special group, thanks to Soyeon. Hope you won't skip Soyeon songs in your full journey in Neverland, especially 'Is This Bad B**** Number' whith Bibi included 😍😍
All the girls in the video look in a mirror. What do you notice? The girl who looks in is always the first to be seen. At the end of the scene you always see Soyeon. 12:24 Miyeon
The final message and the last couple of seconds in the Queencard video really felt like such a let down. there shouldn't have to be all this speculation about what it all means. The message seemed to be about accepting yourself but that isn't really resolved. And the fact that, if she did go out and party and then dreamed about it under anesthesia, she DID change everything about herself. No glasses, all the makeup and clothes that weren't her style, performing for the crowd and photo. And her awkwardly putting away the phone and reacting to the store girls just seems like being unused to all the attention and still caring about external validation. It seems the lesson wasn't really learned nor shown.
I disagree that that messaging wasn't strong enough. Because this song blew tf up, it was everywhere, people talking about the message, talking about the relationship between allergy and queencard. Honestly, I think older people underestimate how smart the younger generation is. They pick up on messaging extremely fast, which is why advertising is 90% aimed at children. It may not have been the massage you wanted to hear, but it was definitely heard by almost everyone it was trying to reach.
I don't know if you've already done it roscoe but if you haven't since you mentioned rock, react to "Liar" it doesn't have a video but it's a very good song
Hello Mr. Roscoe. I love your thoughtfulness and your energy. I also like that you like the groups that I like, so that makes at least one of us very tasteful. I also like how excited you got about guitars and rock, so I hope Never Stop Me is on your (g)i-dle list. ruclips.net/video/SuMnpTc8zoU/видео.htmlsi=M2IppnKBaOgH1-TQ I have not analyzed the timeline and the correspondence between real and dream worlds here to the degree that you did in a much shorter time. I should also point out that 95%+ of people who saw Queencard did not watch Allergy as one was a big hit and the other was a pre-release B-side. As others have pointed out here, this is pretty much metaphorically autobiographical for Soyeon. She has said that she felt allergic to the mirror over many years and, since she is pretty much her target audience, I trust her to deliver the message. I’m very much enjoying your dive on (g)i-dle to catch up on the gaps in your experience. This group to me has always felt like the underdog and this year has been exceptional in showing them at the top of their game and on top of the industry. I won’t be able to see them in the fall when they visit, but I hope you are able to see them perform live near you. Thanks for your time and your energy. I always look forward to more.❤🎉😊
Korea has an I A model that they follow as the only acceptable body and face type. Super weird to me...but I know it exists. I think the ones that DON'T fit are usually stunning.
But.... what is in the magazine is not what you are supposed to look like... That is the part I have never understood how people get it wrong. That is how the person on the cover looks like (or in today's version, how they would like to appear), it has nothing to do with how you look like and definitely not how you should look like.

와..이걸 완벽하게 이해하고 있는 외국인이 있다는게 더 놀랍다.. Pookasoul님이 Queencard였네요..
Ohh thank you so muchh 🥹💕
Finally someone who undersood the message 👏I heard so many different things that I almost though that I was the only one 🤣
It doesn't explain the dance scene on her phone after running out of the surgery, if the surgery scene happened before the dance scene.

@@ugh.ashi_ agreed but her success has made them all look stupid, and I’m happy for her! She’s one of my favorite people in K-pop

My favorite aesthetics for GIDLE. This song made me cry, and then Queencard bolstered my confidence. I kind of love these messages.
I have always felt that the ending is really appropriate. She shuts the whole thing down and moves on. If it was earlier, it wouldn't have the validity of it no longer having power over her.

I think it’s about how people will start to notice and love you when you are unapologetically yourself
My take on Queencard:
The night before the surgery she goes out partying and is feeling confident in herself because she thinks that she wil become what she needs to be socially accepted. In the mv, most of it is her seeing herself in the various people she wants to be and realises that the previous night she was everything she wanted to be, simply because she was confident in who she is - this is very much playing of one of the movies that was a big inspiration for the song. it was early 2000's vibe of disney movie where in the ending it was all the dream but some magic happen that some part of it was real. shes already beautiful but she didnt have the confidence but later on the mv that she realized that she didnt need anything to beautiful
You perfectly pointed out and explained the commentary of Allergy
Queencard the song itself is totally opposite to Allergy so to follow the story is simple yet confusing
The dream sequence is a dream with a mix up of fantasy and actual memories, the main character did clubbing before the surgery, trying to be as cool as people she wants to be like
It's a loop, ups and downs in self confidence/ self acceptance/ external validation/feeling down
The both songs kind of loop together (Allergy started with the song Queencard, Queencard started with the plot of Allergy)
The purpose is to both feel confident but also feel validated even when we are not confident and look for external validation, self depreciation
I totally get that the message could be even stronger
But I do think that both "feeling confident like a Queencard" & "seeking for the unnecessary external validation" make us valid as human (I FEEL BLUE/ I FEEL YOU) we have the right to not be ok, I think it's also the message
Oh that blue shirt really fits the vibe and you damnnn 💙
I got it right away the first time I saw it. Nothing blurry about it.
When she curse her own name I read that soyeon means something like pretty or somerhing like that but because of the comments that she was ugly on produce 101 she was thinking she waa ugly so she cursed her own name because it meant she was pretty or beutifoul
You should've seen the trailers for both tracks. The setting is there, so the storytelling in Allergy and Queencard makes more sense
This one gets personal for Soyeon as she’d got so much hate becus of her look when she started in the industry.
It’s sooo meaningful. Love Allergy.
I think, seeing that all the girls of Allergy turn into Soyeon at the party kinda helps to understand the message.
Thank you for the reaction
Gidle🔥🔥🔥
I disagree that that messaging wasn't strong enough. Because this song blew tf up, it was everywhere, people talking about the message, talking about the relationship between allergy and queencard. Honestly, I think older people underestimate how smart the younger generation is. They pick up on messaging extremely fast, which is why advertising is 90% aimed at children. It may not have been the massage you wanted to hear, but it was definitely heard by almost everyone it was trying to reach.
Then that makes me happy. The message itself is absolutely that important. 💜
Step 2: Sexy Lips & Hips is a callback to HyunA’s - Lip & Hip
I don't know if you've already done it roscoe but if you haven't since you mentioned rock, react to "Liar" it doesn't have a video but it's a very good song

Hello Mr. Roscoe. I love your thoughtfulness and your energy. I also like that you like the groups that I like, so that makes at least one of us very tasteful. I also like how excited you got about guitars and rock, so I hope Never Stop Me is on your (g)i-dle list.

I have not analyzed the timeline and the correspondence between real and dream worlds here to the degree that you did in a much shorter time.

PLZ somi ( gold gold gold ) reaction 🥺 is so goood
Wait, someone thought Soyeon wasn’t gorgeous? That’s so wild
Lisa- NEW WOMAN ( feat Rosalia) reaction please 🙏
Fyi. A lot of the comments and people you are chatting with are from neverland. The rabidly loyal fan base.
