Once you just learn the vowel sounds, you can get Japanese words and names pretty close with their English spelling, and with Korean, learning the alphabet and what sounds they make is one of the easiest in the world as it was specifically made to combat illiteracy in the country. Linguists love it. Once you learn the sounds to the letters, it’s a phonetic language so in almost all cases, how it’s spelled is how it sounds.
I’m pretty sure most people just choose to act like they have ZERO reading skills because there is absolutely no way that you cannot sound out “So Yeon” ITS NOT HARD. They pronounce it “Soo-yoon” like there’s an extra O??? And when pronouncing Shuhua they say “Shoo-hoo-wah” WHY ARE WE ADDING EXTRA SYLLABLES? It really makes me question if these people have ever stepped inside of a school.
