What do you get when you mix jazz mastery and a childhood love of metal? Magic from Tigran
Little Tigran at 4:14?
Dear comment section,
The first time I listened to Tigran was in 2016 when I was in junior high school . I had currently lost a close person that I loved out of suicide and I hadn't listened to music for a month, listening to music just didn't feel right. I visited an old vinyl shop I love and
"Leaving Paris" was playing on the speakers. The owner of the shop, a musician himself, told me who Tigran is when I asked him about this amazingly blindingly euphoric piece.
Four years later, I lost a second friend out of suicide, I took exams to study jazz piano myself and if Tigran's music didn't exist, I would have handled everything in the most horrible way possible.Tigran's not just my "favourite pianist". If the world was a huge garden, with parasites and flowers and huge trees, Tigran and his art would be a "Myosotis", always known as the forget me not flower.
Thank you for making me believe in life and music again Tigran.
Sincerely,
Eirini Alisá
"Leaving Paris" from New Era, his second album. He was 20 years old when he recorded that.
@@UkuleleAversion I know..I love it. And the fact that he composed it so young makes it even more hard to realize
Hi Irene! I think you should check out this version of Leaving Paris ruclips.net/video/OodfvTLjyN8/видео.html it is start at 32:35.
As this piece is in 20/16, your year of first hearing Tigran is rather apt!
@Irene Tsakiroglou I just lost a former piano student to liver failure, he was only 25. Albert & I worked together from 2005, when he was 10, until 2011, and during that period he flourished into the most amazing musician. I used to make him “mix tapes” on CD-R, and his parents & I introduced him to jazz, 20th century orchestral, musique concrete, power noise, everything we could think of outside the mainstream. In recent years, he moved beyond the piano until he discovered Tigran Hamasyan, whose music he loved deeply. So, I’m currently assembling a playlist for his family to play in his honor, saw your comment and had to reply, because Tigran has helped me get through this difficult time as well. Music is the true universal language. May your friends Rest In Peace. May Albert Rest In Peace. All the best to you from Las Vegas, USA.
The scene with the fish being prepared to a heavy synth bass is how I feel right now
True
I have no words for how absolutely brilliant this is. Finally a jazz (?) artist doing something NEW and astounding. It HASN'T all been done! Goosebumps! Blazing these bizzare time signatures by us but making it so listenable and--somebody said it below--more headbanging than most prog rock nowadays. (Listen to this Jordan Rudess and Dream Theater, there IS still more to learn!) Tigran seems to take off from where Avashai Cohen started with time signature sub-divisions. As a bass player, I have tried to count through the various sections here and finally said "screw it--I'll never be Evan Marien", so just listen and soak it in. But I have to say that the 5/4 (5/8?) is so original--I thought all the partitions of this time had been thoroughly explored. Sorry, just rambling while I listen again and wonder why I'm just now hearing of this man. Thanks to Apple Music's Jazz Currents playlist for bringing this to me. And yes, the accompanying video adds rather than subtracts. I look forward to catching up with this brilliant artist.
Hey ! Don't give up on following these on your instrument, I'm not a music theorist but I find ways to simplify some parts to make them more digestible bit by bit I'm sure you could do that better than me :)) some parts are just unusual accents on 4/4 just like one of Tigran's influence : Meshuggah, they made this concept of forced realignment that you can find a lot in Tigran's compositions during the headbanging parts :D
@@MrLiekadefinitely gonna look into forced realignment now, thanks for putting a term to something I’ve been wanting to learn! (I think, lol)
@@elliotjohnson8891 Always happy to know that this might interest someone hahah ! :)
Yogev Gabay has made a lot of beautifully crafted videos about meshuggah, they make a lot of sense especially when you dive into some Tigran's compositions 👌
Funny enough is think as I listened, good ole jazz, love jazz, and I thought could be different than jazz maybe. Then I looked on screen saw ur Jazz (?). Awesome cool unique transcendence of jazz
Okay so we all know the music is ridiculously good, but can we take a minute to appreciate the video work ?
a lots of danke ))
?? Of course we are all appreciating it
@@vahanstepanyan This is the greatest music video I have ever seen. You are a true visionary and artist.
@@StevenMasonBranding thank you so much.
Vahan Stepanyan it’s perfect !
Tigran is a force of Nature
YES
Another amazing composition from the pianist of Meshuggah
I never thought anything could be better than Mockroot, I was wrong.
Yeah we might be seeing a second mockroot
Yeah. Same here. But this is The Tigran!!! We are fortunate enough to live in this era.
I remember seeing Arthur at a gig and he said Mockroot was recorded start to finish in a weekend. Given it's been 2017 since his last album, I'm hoping it'll be Mockroot +
I prefer how the drums are mixed on Mockroot. Here, the song is good, but i wish the snare drum would be sharper and tight.
Slow your roll there partner! have you even listened to "Red hail"????😆 And also i agree, between this song and levitation this might end up being my new favorite tigran album.
Never opened a notification so fast
same here!!!lol
Joining the club!
Exactly, it took me 4 minutes!
I could not just leave it

YES
There's just something about Tigran's music that hits you like a freight train.
The flash of tigran playing air guitar as a wee boy made me cry.
Tigran is more than a musician. He has a high consciousness of the human condition. Because of that, he is a major artist of our time.
YES
I love how young people can represent whole human race. Tigran Hamasyan and Jacob Collier.
Confirmed.
Тигран, вы - настоящее явление современной музыки. Надеюсь, вы напишете ещё много произведений. Очень люблю ваши ритмы!
Спасибо вам!
This is one of the craziest music videos I've seen and it fits perfectly.
04:13 my eyes are like two waterfalls, Tigran gives so much that I'm not able to understand without crying
such an emotional part
))
This is my favourite part. It's so beautiful, sad, uplifting, energizing yet calming. I hate that it ends so quickly.
Absolute genius. Prog can't lay a finger on the amount of musicianship and methodology that went into this track. Just insane.
Thank you Tigran for dedicating this beautiful piece to one of the greatest visionary cinematographers of all time Ardavazt Peleshian
YES
My favourite living composer. 🔥
Это взрыв, музыка и видео ряд, мозг просто в эйфории, сердце бешено бьётся. Как Вы тонко улавливаете настроение. Огромное спасибо.
I wish to give a big thanks to you Tigran and all the people that contributed to this amazing piece of art! It heals my tired soul amidst all the sad happenings in my country. Greetings from Serbia. Please come sometime!
Edit: Now that I think of it, there's much more people involved in the making of this video, if you count the people involved in the making of the films used in this video. It's mindblowing how it all led to this moment, and if you take it just a couple of steps further - it's basically universe expressing itself through sound and images!
Everything is the Universe expressing itself through sound and images (and all other types of waves).
Karim Tit facts
Один из самых сильных концептуальных артистов сегодня, спасибо!
How cool is this.
All this cat has done is fuse his personal taste with musical prowess in a way that sheds new light on a genre and a cultural staple. That's it. Just. That little accomplishment. Ha! Mind stretched man I love this guy.
Super punchy, high energy, awesome phrasing, incredible harmony, a theme that kicks you in the head, beautiful, frightening and esoteric. A moving video that interacts incredibly with such polyrhythms. Just amazing.
What can I say that doesn't sound like a cliche?
You make me dream in ways I didn't know I could. You expand my consciousness. You're the real deal, Tigran.
I hear you. You truly speak to me through your art. A "Thank you" doesn't even begin to cover it...
Superb man, are u god or magician?! 😲 Loved your playing really. Take love, from India
This track grows on you. Firstly I listened to it a couple of weeks ago, and didnt care much. But now I felt a need to relisten this track again and again. There is something deeply touching my soul in this track.
A leap in jazz music. Thank you Tigran!
No words can describe my feelings listening to this piece of art! A very big THANK YOU for all the inspiration and the emotions! You are unbelievable sir! Keep up the good and hard work!
Arsen Nazaryan, thank you. One of my favourite video edits ever. Great job! (from a fellow video maker)
Tigran your music highlights the best and beautiful sides of life! Thank you for all your powerful and impactful creations!
Meshuggah vibes are strong in this one (insert gif of Jack Nicholson nodding)
Tigran Jan ❤️ You are Kars's pride... Kars loves you so much ❤️
Tigran is extraordinarily a piano virtuoso.
Oh my God!!! U cure my anxiety!!! Thank you very much!!!!!!!!
I'm a simple man. I see new Tigran video. I like it before watching.
Stroking a fish and quintuplets? I'm sold
4:06 made me shed some tears ngl
Too few comments for this God. Love you Tigran
I really really love how well done the music video is, and how well it compliments the music. Its chaotic nature goes so well with the music, extremely inspiring both from a music video and just pure musical standpoint
Talents like yours are rare. 💗
I still think this is his best work to date
I SEE NEW TIGRAN. I CLICK IT!
This album will bring me back to life and I'm ready for it. Huge fan from Mexico!
I'm so excited for the release of the full album! Already have the Vinyl preordered. I can't decide if I like New Maps or Levitation 21 more. Can't wait for the rest!
Ապրես Տիգրան ջան շատ հզոր է' it's good music thank you Tigran
Tigran, I can't express in words, how fortunate I feel I am that I'm witnessing such a legend like you. ❤️❤️❤️
If you sleep on this, you are asleep. This is as savage as it gets musically.
It's also a "jazz trio" c'mon folks. give yourself and us all a break.
L'adéquation musique / image est simplement extraordinaire. Le soin du choix rythmique transporte. Le noir et blanc porte l'onirisme. Merci pour cet instant magique.
Now that's what I call pure originality and genius. Thanks for sharing your creativity with the world Tigran.
this track rocks more than half of modern prog rock bands combined
Accurate.
a chance there is gavin harrison playing in the other half
I discovered this album two days ago and now I am completely obsessed
Stunning achievement .
Aaah the patterns , as both a bass player and piano this entire record is going submerge me for the foreseeable future
Exciting, complex and nuanced without feeling like he's showing off. Yes it's incredible, but it never feels forced.
What a great way to start the week! Tigran is the G.O.A.T.
Tigran: the wonderful enigma we don't deserve.
???

This is a beautiful song, love from Turkey
I love how many different moods and atmospheres Tigran is able to convey through one piece of music. The best part is that it all fits together as a unified whole.
Which sense of rythm and creativity .a Real esthetic and Musical world ! Great

03h00 in France and wide awake, all ears but I think I also watched the history of humankind in 6:53 minutes, construction, destruction, reconstruction, distractions, so much effort so much pain and struggles, thank G-d for 4:02! The best remedy to survive! Brave New World!

What a blessing to have Tigran in our world♥️
Amazing stuff! I have been listening to your music for a while and I still can't figure out most of the rhythmic insanity that happens in your songs... But I enjoy it a lot anyway! 😎 Keep it great Tigran, you are one of a kind.
Genre: Tigran Hamasyan. Thank you for sharing your extraordinary gift.
Loving the clashing of irregular rhythms clashing with each other compounded by jazz and metal!
What a beautiful song to end the album.
Հոյակապ ստեղծա-հրաշագործություն 👏👏👏
I hope someday you collaborate with Tosin Abasi or Mark Guiliana. That would be sick. Thank you for your special music!
Egglord lookout for the Tosin collaboration on his new album.
he played with Guiliana back when they were in Dhafer Youssef’s band. plenty of live videos of this lineup on YT :)
